OS X :: 10.6.5 Update - MacBook Pro Automatically Wake Up

Nov 21, 2010

I have a 17" MacBook Pro that I bought recently (and even more recently restored) new from Apple. Ever since the 10.6.5 update I have noticed some problems. Almost every night, my MacBook Pro will wake up. I don't know if this is significant but I do have it connected to a cinema display, firewire hard drive, and an Apple bluetooth mouse and keyboard.

The only thing I would be suspecting is the hard drive but I don't know why since it is only used for time machine backups and those work normally. I do hear sometimes the hard drive spin up at night for a backup, but then it quickly shuts down after, which I believe is normal. Anyways, checking the console in the morning, I find this out of the usual:

11/21/10 12:43:14 AMcom.apple.launchd[1](com.apple.awacsd[435]) Job appears to have crashed: Segmentation fault

OS X :: Won't Sleep At Night / Wake Up Automatically

Apr 22, 2010

My iMac seems to wake up often in the middle of the night and in the day when I'm at school. I was wondering if there's an app/pill that can attempt to do the opposite of Caffeine: keep my Mac asleep at night. Does anyone know of such a thing? I doubt it exists, but then again sometimes I doubt I exist.

IMac :: Computer Goes Into Sleep And Wake Up Automatically

Dec 15, 2009

I had my iMac 27" for two months, and I am very pleased with the machine - except for one thing. When I put it to sleep, the computer just go to sleep in a couple of hours and then return to no-sleep. It started just after I bought the computer. I always set my computer to sleep, and so I did even then - but the first thing I noticed was that the hard drive was started during the first night. Strangely, I thought and put it to sleep again. Then I fell asleep, but when I woke up next morning the computer was on.

Then I wrote on another forum and they told me to check out: Wake up in network access, which I did. And then it got better. Now the computer has been without problems for a month, but then a few days ago it came back. This box is still check, so it can not have anything to do with it this time. I've also tried turning off all programs, the keyboard and mouse when it has gone down to sleep, but it still restarted. What is wrong? Please run with Sleep and it is a program that will prevent the computer to wake from sleep, but not:

2009-12-14 00:12:00.870 Please Sleep [8574:207] Sleep notification received from the system
2009-12-14 01:12:38.522 Please Sleep [8574:207] Wake notification received from the system
2009-12-14 01:13:53.122 Please Sleep [8574:207] Sleep notification received from the system
2009-12-15 00:50:54.355 Please Sleep [6883:207] Application started
2009-12-15 00:50:54.357 Please Sleep [6883:207] Application is enabled
2009-12-15 00:51:57.358 Please Sleep [6883:207] Sleep notification received from the system
2009-12-15 04:05:05.591 Please Sleep [6883:207] Wake notification received from the system
2009-12-15 05:22:18.061 Please Sleep [6883:207] Sleep notification received from the system
2009-12-15 07:27:34.597 Please Sleep [6883:207] Wake notification received from the system

What can I do? Can I submit it to Applecare? Some peoples say you do not have to turn off a Mac, but I want to put it to sleep, but it starts up the next day. I've also restarted the SMC, but it gave no effect.

MacBook Pro :: 17 Slow Wake After EFI 2.7 Update

Feb 25, 2012

After installing the EFI 2.7 update yesterday, my MacBook Pro 17" has had an odd bug.

When the display dims after x minutes of inactivity, it takes 10-15 seconds after activity (mouse click, key press, etc.) for the screen to "un-dim".  Same happens when trying to wake from the screen saver or sleep.

I have tried restarting as well as restarting w/PRAM reset.  After the PRAM reset, the MBP would wake as usual for a little while, but then reverted back to the slow wake bug.

Mac Pro :: Wake From Sleep After Firmware Update

Apr 30, 2008

Before I purchased my Mac Pro on friday, I made sure to read these forums to make myself aware to some problems that could occur. When I got home, I made sure to do all the software updates and the Mac Pro is completely up to date, including the latest update from yesterday. However, this morning when I went to wake up my Mac Pro I couldn't get it to work so I had to do a hard restart. Should this be a concern for me? I put it back into sleep mode again and it woke up fine.. Could this have been a fluke?

OS X :: Snow Leopard Needs Update - IMac Not Wake Up

Sep 25, 2009

If you think Snow Leopard needs an update to fix all all these problems post something here. My biggest problem is that my imac won't wake up and I am forced to shut it down by holding the power button, it happens about once every two days and it is quite annoying. Also (I don't know if this happened before or not) the apple symbol in the menu bar changes every two seconds, not a big deal but just weird.

OS X :: Disk Image Won't Open Automatically Since Last Security Update

Nov 17, 2010

I am using OS 10.5.8.

In the past, I could double click on my disk image file (secure.sparseimage) and it would procede to ask for password and then open.

Since the last security update, when I double click on the same file, it opens disk utility. I then have to double click on the secure.sparseimage file in the left pane.

I checked disk utility preferences and it is still set to automatically open both read only and read and write disk images.

Anyone have the same experience and possibly an explanation or solution?

MacBook Pro :: Won't Wake Out Of Sleep?

Jul 11, 2007

I put my 3 day old MBP to sleep last night with a 90% battery level (with the A/C adapter unplugged). I had calibrated the battery the day before. This morning, when I opened the lid, nothing happened. I thought this was odd. I then pressed the power button and heard about 1 second of the startup tone and then nothing. I repeated this twice more with the same result. I then plugged in the A/C adapter and the MBP booted up. The battery level was 86%. What do you think has caused this? Do I have a defective battery or something more serious?

MacBook :: Won't Wake From Sleep

Feb 3, 2009

However, twice now when I've run the battery down (as recommended to keep the battery healthy), and then put it to sleep and plug it in, when I try to wake it up later, it won't start. Powering on and off just lead to a little "click-whirr" and the power light pops on and off, but no action. I called applecare and they said to unplug it, take the battery out, leave it out for a bit, then put it back in, then plug it back in, and restart it. It worked (although the second such crash, it took two tries for unclear reasons). Needless to say, this is a bit frustrating. Is this a known problem? Should I do something to avoid it? Is it a lemon?

MacBook Pro :: How To Prevent Wake On USB

Mar 5, 2009

I would like to connect one of those Master/Slave Powersplitters to my Macbook Pro when I'm at home.

However, this has given me an issue.

When I choose Sleep, the Macbook goes to sleep, and a few seconds after the the splitter will turn off my screen, speakers, Printer and all other accesories.

But as soon as this happens, The Mac wakes up again.

For simplicity at home I have one USB connected to the mac, that goes to the built in USB hub of the screen.
I tried to disconnect everything from the hub leaving only the hub connected.

MacBook :: Doesn't Wake After Add New RAM

May 4, 2009

So over this weekend I upped the ram in my Macbook from the stock 2gbs-4gbs. Everything seems to be fine but now what's happening is when I close my Macbook lid and put it to sleep it won't wake up when I open it later. It seems like it wakes up as the light at the bottom goes out but there is no response from the keyboard or display. If I hold down the power button for 5 seconds then the Mac shuts off and I can boot it up as normal. I checked over the reporting screen when it reboots and it seem to be indicating a kernel panic occurred. The memory seems to be recognized and working but it wouldn't explain why my mac suddenly is freaking out. I've tried the SMC reset and now I'm going to try the PRAM reset. I figured I'd check here if anyone has any ideas. The type of Macbook I have is a 2.4ghz Alum. The memory is from MacSales.com OWC 4GB PC3-8500 DDR3 1066MHz DIMM Upgrade Kit This appears to be a house memory but i've had great luck from them before with this same brand.

MacBook Pro :: Sometimes Doesn't Wake Up

Jul 2, 2010

Sometimes after I logoff, I'll close the lid on my MBP. I always wait until I'm fully logged off before I do this. Later when I want to use my computer I open the lid, the keyboard backlight comes on, but I get no picture on the screen. If I take the machine into my office and connect it to my external monitor, I get no picture there either. The only way to get my computer back is to hold down the power button until it turns off and then turn it back on. Has anyone seen this issue? If so, do you know of a solution? I don't think it's been doing this since I bought it. It seems like it's been worse since the latest OS X patch, but I could be mistaken.
