Anyone have experience with the above configuration? I am still running 10.3.9 and have waited on upgrading to get some input on 10.4 vs 10.5.
I understand that this is the minimum configuration for 10.5, and "minimum configuration" can translate into "barely useable".
When I send mail with attachments to a hotmail or outlook account, they show up as follows:
The body of the email written until the first attachment
Each subsequent paragraph included as it's own attachment (not part of the body text)
The first attachment included, but no others.
I have the "Always sennd Windows friendly" attachments option selected
I have files that were created in Apple Works and Word Perfect for Mac that need to be translated. Mac Link does not make a version for Lion. What else can I use to translate these files?
View 14 Replies View RelatedUPDATE EDIT: took proper pictures this time around while I had the free time.. Corners are very vulnerable to exorbitant damage costs (my case costs over $800). Be careful. The best way to protect would be a full on plastic cover, but that doubles the weight and size = Normal side; I put a cheapo $10 cover on it and it's still got bubbles I've got to push out or pin out, so excuse those.

Pause and play barely work until I click them multiple times, I can't adjust volume, and can't skip to where I want in the video.
Anyone else experiencing these problems?
Is it a flash player issue?
I hope I'm just missing something, but it seems the Leopard firewall took a huge step backward from Tiger. I want to configure it to permit certain ports to connect, and it seems I can't do that basic thing. All I see is a way to tell it which apps should be allowed to receive external connections. That's quite unsatisfactory to me; is there a way to just open up ports?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt started last night when my adapter freyed, melted and became useless (a common problem with the MagSafe). I called to bitch to Apple, but they just wanted to make sure nobody died and no houses burned down and then told me to go buy a new adapter. I did that today, but now my computer wont hold a charge and is stuck at 0% and shows the charged icon over the battery. The weird thing is that the light on the MagSafe head is an extremely dim green. You need to turn the lights off to really see that it is lit, but very weakly.
So, I went back to the Apple store and tried the charger on a different computer and it worked fine. And we tried a completely different charger on my macbook and the same dimly lit light thing happened. So i dont think its the charger. Then we put my battery in a different macbook and it took a charge. So i dont think its the battery. Any ideas??? Is it a coincidence my 18 month old hassle-free (until now) macbook has had two problems in the last 24 hrs? It isn't under warranty.
I've installed a 250gb WD hdd in my G4 AGP/ Graphics as a second drive. I didn't know the hdd limitations would affect a slave . Which is not a problem, what I need to know is if the half of the drive that doesn't mount will just be a waste of space. Or can it be formatted and if so, how?

I've had my MBP for 3 years, and I'm usually decent enough at fixing minor problems that I have. I got a new pair of Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's today, and I can't use them with my computer for some reason. I've attempted to reset the pram, I've checked all the system preferences, I actually CAN hear the audio through the phones. It's barely audible at max volume. I've never had this problem before. I've tried to plug a different pair of headphones in and I have the same problem. So basically, I'm stuck troubleshooting, and wondering what I can do to remedy this.

What I noticed this time is that I could barely make out text on the screen, and although I couldn't read the whole thing, it was definitely a kernel panic "grey screen of death":
I'm wondering why this could be happening - both times it definitely had to do with closing and re-opening the laptop, and I'm wondering what the dimmed screen (I could barely make out the words) says about the issue.
This has been going on for a while. I can barely use safari due to the beachball.

Are there any xml editors out there for mac? I know about text editors like bbedit and textmate etc., but then I would have to surround text with tags by typing them. I have a long list of addresses and it would be much simpler if I could e.g. select the address text, click on the 'address' button in the window with the available xml tags and the text would automatically be surrounded with the tags. Are there any programs which could do that?

Strangely the machine starts up with a perfect image for a short time, then changes, so I suspect software rather than hardware. I've tried playing with settings in system preferences as well as repairing permissions. Should I perhaps try a PMU reset?

When I booted the computer, it said the drive was not readable or usable or something along that lines so I went to disk utility and erased the hard drive with the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) setting selected. Now the drive seems to work fine but I haven't tested it much. Is everything ok with this drive now? Is Journaled the best setting? Is there a better setting to use for video editing. The drive is: WD Caviar GP 500 GB SATA

Can I simply disconnect the drive and connect the camera/ipod at will or do I have to buy a hub? On my old XP machine it seemed to me the ports were dedicated to their peripherals.

View 3 Replies View RelatedFor the past week I have been having a lot of problems with iCal and Syncserver. .Mac syncing has been hit and miss. Syncserver continually takes up 99% of the CPU and iCal hangs and is very slow. The computer is still (somehow) usable but overall very slow.
I have tried the following:
1. Restarts
2. Dump iCal plist files.
3. Turned off .Mac syncing
4. Trashed all calendars
5. Used syncrospector to reset syncservices.
6. Dumped syncservices folder.
Does anybody have an idea of what is going on, and what I can do?

Once the Mac is up and running it seems to run ok with Safari, Mail running, but add to that NUMBERS or Garage Band 10, (fagedabowdit).

I had been having issues with my computer being very slow so I began using several freeware programs to clean up my computer. I used Repair Doctor, AVG PC Analyzer, PC Pitstop, Glary Utilities, and Advanced System Care. I discovered that ITunes was no longer usable after using AVG PC Analyzer. I have gone back and reversed all the changes that I made using PC Analyzer and have also used Windows System Restore to go back to a time previous to most of the clean up activities. I have uninstalled ITunes several times and then reinstalled using various combination of installing ITunes and QuickTime. QuickTime is working fine, but ITunes is not working. I click on the ITunes icon and nothing happens.

I love the Apple keyboards, but the bluetooth version is no good as it doesn't have the numeric keypad. I used this heavily for my job.
I was recommended the Logitech diNovo Edge Mac edition, which looks awesome, but again, no numeric keypad.
Anybody got any recommendations for a fast, slimline wireless keyboards (eg, not one of those hulking clacky multimedia keyboards) that has the numeric pad?

I have been trying to get my Fraps video files on my Windows 7 machine compressed into a format that will allow them to work with Final Cut Pro X on my mac.Â

I have tried using MPEG Streamclip on my Windows machine to convert it to an .mp4 file, but that just gave me an audio file with no video. I then tried using Handbreak on my Windows 7 machine to do the same thing, but the resulting file was not even recognized by Final Cut Pro X.Â

I've had my iMac for just under a week now, and I wanted to play some games, so I did a Time Machine backup, and ran BootCamp. Vista install disk wouldnt work, so I used my copy of the Windows 7 RC1 32bit. That worked fine, its installed and working just fine, but when I went to check what it would show under "System" in the control panel, it shows my memory as 4.00GB and says 2.73GB useable. Is this normal? I know that 32 bit cuts off memory at around 3.23GB, and I was under the impression with Windows 7 and Vista SP1 the limitation was supposed to be moved to 4GB. Is this something I should be worried about? Also, I get some really bad lag spikes on Windows.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm an IMac newbie, so please excuse me if this is "old" information. However, I've done a lot of searching and can't find a "simple" solution. Maybe there isn't one. Again, please excuse me if this is dumb...Just got a new 27" IMac. I have a Dell AIO 966. I know now there is no OEM driver. But, I thought there was a Lexmark driver model (that might show up in the OX 10 install process I could substitute, or a Generic driver. So far, no luck. And frankly, some of the things I am reading when I search are either old, old posts or too complex for me.
Is the simple answer, "get a new printer?" Or, is there a usable driver loaded into OS X? Is there a thread or post that I am missing?
I was importing some photos into Aperture when my battery unexpectedly died (that's a separate issue). I started the computer (a black MacBook) up again and opened Aperture only to have it be momentarily unresponsive followed endlessly by the rainbow spinning ball. Force quitting and restarting gives more of the same.
Any ideas on how I can make Aperture usable again? It's quite important to me.
For what it's worth, I'm running Aperture 2.1.4
We have two Mac Laptops, 1 is the little white Macbook, the other MBP. We have DSL coming in and then thru a 2wire modem then thru the Airport. The 2 wire modem is connected to a PC. All of this sits about 40 feet from the bar where we use the laptops and is a straight shot.
My problem is that the the newer MBP is stuck in the mud when it comes to connecting, and then holding any type of signal strength with the wireless signal.The older little white MB works great, every bar on the wireless icon is black, on the other (as I type this they are both on and side by side..) only has one.
When pressing Alt/Option and clicking on the wireless icon the good computer shows a transmit rate of somewhere between 20 and 26 when I have checked it several times this morning, the bad one has never been above one.It seems for the price I paid for the Airport Ex. BOTH of these units should be getting full strength signals.Ever had this problem? No of any possible solutions?The fact that the slow one is my wife's machine doesn't make life any easierI figure before I make an Apple reservation I could do a little research myself.
