How to i coordinate the home computer iTunes with my laptop

I have an iMac and a mbp, both intels & running 10.5.8. I work on the road and wish to have both computers contain the same information with out over writing the new files. i.e. - I work on a word file at home, work on the same file at the office and then record my band before heading home. When I get home, I want my home computer to have the updated word file and back up the logic audio files. The other part of this is so that my iPhone will sync with both computers. MobileMe was kind of the right path but I didn't quite do the trick. How do I do that?
View 12 Replies View Related visited an Apple store for this answer with cash in hand and left even more confused. The manager of the store said that CS5 changed the original Adobe protocol of allowing you to install the software on your home and portable computer. Another employee thought you still could install on the two machines as long as you weren't using the software on the two machines at the same time.
To make it more confusing, on Adobe's FAQ section:"Can I distribute a Creative Suite 5 edition across multiple users or computers? No. The product license agreement forCreative Suite 5 does not allow you to install the components of a single suite edition across multiple computers. Refer to the End-User License Agreement for more details."[URL]Then, when you click on the End-User License Agreement, it has this at the bottom: "HOME USE OF MACROMEDIA BRANDED PRODUCTSNotwithstanding the terms of the product license agreement included within a Macromedia branded product, when such a product is licensed through Adobes Open Options licensing program (not including Student Licensing,SiteLicensing, and Term Licensing), the primary user of the computer on which such software is lawfully installed may install a second copy of such software for his or her exclusive use on either a portable computer or a computer located at his or her home, provided that the software on the portable or home computer is not used at the same time as the software on the primary computer."[URL]Any current CS5 users know what the deal is? Do I need to pay even more money for the above-mentioned "open options program" just to be the sole user of the software on my home and laptop computers?
I am trying to use Home Sharing between my iMac and a Windows Laptop. I have setup home sharing on each computer, but for some reason i can only see shared icon in my iMac iTunes library. On my Windows Latoptop the shared icon is not visible in the left hand pane. I have tried Authorising both computers, deauthorising both computers. Turning on, then off home sharing on each computer. I can still only see my laptops library on my IMac. When I really want to see my iMac's library on my laptop, as I am using my laptop for music at a party. Has anybody had problems when tying to use Home Sharing between a Windows Computer and a Mac?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 3 Apple computers connected to my home network. I have a Macbook Air Running Mavericks, I new 27 inch iMac running Yosemite, and a 4 year old iMac running Yosemite.
The older iMac I use as a place to store my content. My music, movies, and pictures. When I purchase new music ( Yup, I still by CDs from time to time ) I rip them to the iMac than import the CD to my Macbook Air. So home sharing is on for both computers and both the laptop and the older iMac can see each others libraries.
I just purchased the new iMac recently and am finally getting around to getting my music moved onto it. So my intention was to turn on Home Sharing then import my music from the older iMac to the newer iMac. Here is where things get odd. I turned on the older iMac ( Home Sharing already turned on ). Then I went down stairs and turned on the new iMac and activated Home Sharing. Neither iMac was able to see each others library. So I turn on my Macbook Air and now the Macbook Air and the older iMac can see each others libraries but the new iMac can only see the Macbook Airs library and not the older iMacs library.

I don't see "Shared" in my iTunes, so I cannot use Home Sharing. How can I make "Shared" appear in my iTunes?

I created a new account for my daughter and I had left iTunes open. She logged into the computer (with Fast User switching) while I was still logged in and iTunes running & my Home Shared library showed up in her iTunes and it works fine.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have many songs on my iPodTouch that were not purchases from the iTunes store. These songs on my iPodTouch were originally on a different computer. They have been erased from the previous computer. I wish to move the songs from my iPodTouch to my MacbookPro.
When I plugged my iPodTouch into my MacbookPro (which has no songs), it started to sync (which I don't want to do). I canceled the sync, and I don't know what to do from there. I kind of want to do a reverse sync or something similar.
Got problems with my MacbookPro. The Apple store changed the motherboard. Have now problems with many songs in my Itunes library. Do not have access anymore because Itunes says that I am using more than 5 computers which is not true. How to resolve?

I am moving to a new job that will be about 30 minutes away from home, and I'd like to be able to access my home Mac Pro. I should have fairly decent internet at the new home and new job, so I'd like to set up some sort of VPN or remote access.
Would having DynDNS and then VNC acccess be the best way to do this? What about setting up a VPN so I can access files from a work machine?
have currently been away from home for nearly four months now, and on three different occasions, I've needed to ask a friend from back home to visit my house and force-restart my computer because I was no longer able to access it via LogMeIn because my home computer had frozen for one reason or another.
I need to find some sort of a fail-safe method for remotely force restarting home my computer when I am in a pinch, without the need for a friend to visit my house.
I'm about to acquire a macbook pro that I want to use as a second machine. I have a 27" iMac at home that I will continue to use in many ways as my primary machine. I don't want to migrate everything over (e.g., not all my photos or all my music), but I'd like to use many of the same applications (MS Office, Omnifocus, 1Password, Launchbar, etc) and obviously use my same iCloud credentials. Should I be using migration assistant to set up the new machine or should I go with a more manual process?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm a student and constantly use my flash drive on my MacBook and at the school computers. I want to synchronize, so my files get updated and backed up. I've searched this forums, and the internet but it seems like there's no solution. Carbon Copy Cloner, and Super Duper don't allow the flash to be the target disk, and if it does, it can't be the source. [URL]. For whatever reason, I don't know it seems like a simple thing, but I don't know how that works.
I also found the automator script "sync folders", which is what I wanted, but it seems to have flaked out on me. It didn't work at first, not sure what I did, but it finally started working, but then it stopped again and keeps giving me this error. "Finder got an error: The operation could not be completed because there is already is an item with the same name. (-48)" and from what I've searched in Google there is no solution.
I recently brought my computer to the Apple store to repair dents on the outside of my laptop.Ever since I received it back it does not go into sleep mode when I close the screen.

I need space on my computer - video files take up most space and I have a bunch of music videos in my iTunes library. My question is -
If I upgrade to iTunes Match - would that mean I can then delete files on my computer in my iTunes library and still access them later?
I have a late 2008 uMBP 15 inch and in safari, regardless of using the integrated graphics card or the higher end card, when I press apple t for a new tab the computer hangs for at least 10 seconds then once it finally loads the top sites page it appears all scrambles for a second, then it works normally.
My second problem is that my hinge is very loose. I can't hold the laptop at 45 degree angle without the screen falling down and closing. Will apple fix this?
Brand new convert to Mac here: After receiving an iPod Touch from my boss when he upgraded to an iPhone, I have fallen in love with the Mac hardware and OS. I just got a new macbook and would like to transfer my iTunes from my old PC laptop. I am also a neophyte to iTunes so forgive me if there is a very simplistic answer to this issue.
The physical music is located on my external drive connected to the PC with the iTunes original music locations pointed to it . My specific question is, if I backup iTunes, restore to the Mac, plug in the external drive to the Mac, will it work seamlessly? I'm not sure if the existing iTunes music locations will re-synch since the music locations on the laptop iTunes are mapped to the "G:" drive. If it won't work that way, what do you recommend as the best way to go about it? I want to make sure I don't waste as much time as when I initially set up my iTunes/iPod touch (simply stuck in "PC" mindset).
I had a crash on my HP laptop and had to re-install windows XP on it. I have also installed again Itunes on the laptop.
Question: Is there a way to transfer the contents of the many songs from Itunes Desktop (all from my own CD's) to the laptop?
will home sharing itunes work with MAC computers and HP PCs?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have all my music on an external HD that I've used for a few years. I told my old computer (1GHz TiBook G4 with Tiger) to export my iTunes library, which it did, as a .xml file. Then, I opened that file on my new iMac, and only about 1/5 of the songs were found, apparently. This doesn't make sense to me, as the iMac is connected to the HD when I import the old library. If it makes a difference, the TiBook was NOT connected to the HD when I exported the library. I have the two computers networked together via Ethernet right now, though.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI use a MacbookPro 2.4 intel duo core - Latest Snow Leopard - 2 gig ram. No trauma in it's life - never been dropped. I have a fair knowledge of computers but by no means am I a techie. Up until now my MBP has been running fine ( no strange behavior or noises etc. ). It now wont start. It refused to wake up from sleep last night. I've pulled the battery, used pwoer adapter etc. In a normal startup - there is a brief whirr sound, followed by the startup chime. My MBP makes the whirr, but thats it - no chime and no further activety. The the screen is blank, there is no keyboard lights, there is no sound if pressing the volume key. - I have tried: - Zapping Pram - Starting it up as a target drive - Plugging in an external drive to start from that -- the drives green LED lit up so assume there's USB power - and the LED will turn red ( but only once so I assume there is no 'conversation' ). - Tried a forced restart using - Cntrl - Power button. This gets me to the initial whirr again but no further. i have NOT yet tried to reset the PMU - how do you do this? Anything else it could be? Anything else I could try? I need it back asap for work - my last resort is to pull the hard drive and try to use it as an external drive to access my info - but I'd like to exhaust all tests before I do that.
