I don't see "Shared" in my iTunes, so I cannot use Home Sharing. How can I make "Shared" appear in my iTunes?
Info:Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
I created a new account for my daughter and I had left iTunes open. She logged into the computer (with Fast User switching) while I was still logged in and iTunes running & my Home Shared library showed up in her iTunes and it works fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set up my home network to have the iMac share its' media library via iTunes, and access that media on other devices in the home. I would like to use iTunes Music Sharing, which is a very simple setup on the iMac and doesn't require any Apple ID to be entered on the devices accessing the shared library. However, I have found that the iPhone and iPad will not even see the shared media library when the iMac is set up to share its' library.Â
Only when I enable Home Sharing on the iMac, and configure Home Sharing on the iPhone and iPad, do I see the shared library available on those devices.Â
I would like to allow other family members in the household to access the shared media library without requiring them to have my Apple ID and password. iTunes Music Sharing is supposed to allow this.Â
Does iTunes Music Sharing not work when trying to share to an iPhone or iPad?Â

Home Sharing sounds simple enough. Has anyone got this to work? I have searched for documentation on how to set this up and Apple has only made a video mentioning how to do this. It is vague though and doesn't explain the context for set up.
http://www.apple.com/itunes/how-to/#video-started
For example. Does Home Sharing only work with one account? What if I have an iTunes account and my Wife has an account, does one of us lose all of our content when we share? You are supposed to be able to transfer content among all local shares. What happens next? Do I need to authorize each file to work on another computer/iPhone/Touch? I have not gone all the way with setting up Home Sharing as I don't want to go down a long path and be stuck at the end.
Can anyone asist me with error 5599 when I tried to authorize my MAC PRO for home sharing?

After I enter my iTunes account information for Home Sharing, the icon for it goes away. I have tried this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972 and it still didn't work. I know, but I wanted to unload all my iTunes music to my desktop.

My question however is can I share it between my computer in one state and my home computer in a different state so that while I am at hotels or on the road I can access them through the internet.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just replaced my old MBP with a new i7, everything is working save for this (so far). I de-authorized the old machine, authorized the new one, selected home sharing, mounted machines in both directions, opened iTunes on both machines. On both machines I get this message (see attached). Problem is I can't see where to achieve this. I went to security and turned off the OS Firewall on both boxes, and have no 3rd party FW app. Is there a place to "allow communication on port 3689"?

My roommates keep swiping my ringtones, and it psyches me out when I hear my custom tone and it's not my phone doing it. I don't mind sharing music and videos, but I'd like to keep my ringtones to myself.

Since iTunes 9 came out the improved Home Sharing features has been quite useful to me, but today when I re-formatted my computer I ran into some problems. Both computers are using Windows XP, one is connected via Ethernet and the other one--which I reformatted, let's call it Computer B--connects to the router wirelessly.
I have activated each computer for Home Sharing properly but from Computer B, I can't access Computer A's library. On Computer A, I can access Computer B's shared library and listen to music as normal, at least for a moment - after being connected to the library for a period of about two minutes, it will suddenly disconnect itself and the icon will disappear so I am unable to reconnect. It's strange how I can connect to the library perfectly and just out of nowhere it will disconnect.
I have two computers setup using home sharing. The problem is, I want to rename the libraries on each of them so they make more sense to me.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to use Home Sharing between my iMac and a Windows Laptop. I have setup home sharing on each computer, but for some reason i can only see shared icon in my iMac iTunes library. On my Windows Latoptop the shared icon is not visible in the left hand pane. I have tried Authorising both computers, deauthorising both computers. Turning on, then off home sharing on each computer. I can still only see my laptops library on my IMac. When I really want to see my iMac's library on my laptop, as I am using my laptop for music at a party. Has anybody had problems when tying to use Home Sharing between a Windows Computer and a Mac?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've finally got hold of a 27" iMac that works, so now comes the process of transferring over all my media. I want to use my iMac as a media hub of sorts, and so have been transferring all of my music from my MacBook using the import feature on iTunes 9's Home Sharing. I just want to know if Apple places any restrictions on the files so, for instance, if I de-authorise my Macbook and/or delete the media files from it, will the music still be accessible as normal from the iMac (since it's been coped over and is stored locally), or will it create some kind of link to the original files and shout at me if they disappear? Or would I be safer using a traditional method of transferring the data?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI added a laptop to our home network that'll primarily be used by my wife. Most of our iTunes content is on my system. I wanted to share the library across the network and give her the option of importing tracks off mine. This will let the whole family use either computer to sync their iPods.
I set up the Home Sharing option using verion 9.0.2 on both machines. I didn't use a password. I can see the other computer's libraries under 'Shared' on each system and access their files to play. But when I select the library, I don't get the 'Import' option that is listed in the Help menu instructions. Without being able to import the tracks, we have to go back to the main machine to sync.
I have myself a 2010 macbook. go me. My friend here has an Acer (pc). We both have itunes (go us). I want to share my library with her because I've got like 5,000 songs that she wants. WELL. I can see her library on my mac but she cant see my library on her pc. Did I not do something right here? We're using home sharing. So she's technically on my account but I cant seem to be able to get her to see my library. I've check the firewall on both. I've checked everything. What do I do?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have 2 new Apple TVs, I have 1 Second Gen Apple TV, I also have a new 3rd gen iPad, and a new iMac. Since I got the new iPad and new Apple TVs, iTunes Home Sharing stopped working reliably. I say this because this is when I noticed it. I had not really used home sharing much in the 2 months prior because I sold my old ipad in anticipation of the new one. When trying to access my video collection on iTunes, the iPad and AppleTVs will see my iMac's Video collection, but when selected, it thinks awhile and then the % indicator goes to 50% and stops waits awhile and then indicates that there are no videos.
The only way to get it to work again is to Stop Home Sharing on my iMac and then start it again. Then it works instantly. Less than a day goes by and bang, the problem comes again. Because I can get it to work via iTunes, I have to assume that it is a software issue and not a wireless router issue (im using an airport by the way). I don't know if iTunes is having a hard time keeping up with that many clients (the ipad and 3 apple TVs), or what, but the issue is very annoying and really ruins the Apple experience.

I have a new IPAD and just bought APple TV. Need to set up home sharing on my account and have followed Support options wherein you log into ITunes, choose advanced, then allow Home sharing. There is no place to even sign in to ITunes as i have always seen before. Cannot start ITunes on Laptop (linked to IPAD) at all but can from Browser. I really want to play my music in multiple rooms at the same time. I know I could buy an atv or airport express for my home theater but don't need all the extra functionality. Can I use a laptop hooked up to my sound system which is also connected to my itunes library on my iMac via home sharing to play music at the same time on both computers?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAny idea how iTunes 9 Home Sharing would handle media on a Network Attached Storage Drive? Suppose I change the location of my media to the NAS in iTunes settings and then set up Home Sharing. Then I add a song to one machine the song gets added to the library file the .mp3 gets copied to the NAS. If Home Sharing is on and they all refer to the same location for the media files, how would iTunes on the other machines handle that? Would it just add it to the library files on the other machines and see that .mp3 file is already in the proper location on the NAS drive?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe setup: Three computers, one running Windows XP SP3, SL 10.6.4 and L 10.5.8. All three are running iTunes 9.2. The windows xp box is the "server" of the iTunes main library. This is where it is strange. I can see all three library's (depending on which computer I am on). I can see the shared library's and they all have the little house with the music note. The problem is I can't share any music from one account to the other?
If I open up one of the shared library's and try to drag and drop some music into it, the files will not drop. Doesn't matter what computer I am on. I have tried the "automatically add to library" folder and that works about 50% of the time. It will send files over but a good majority of the time it will not copy to all shared library's. I have checked the router settings and also made sure all the settings from within iTunes is correct. I have also made sure all of the accounts are logged into the same iTunes account etc. But nothing seems to be working.
how long it will take roughly to transfer music from mac book to imac via home sharing - I have about 17GB and so far it seems to be transferring one song about every 2-3 mins . is that normal?

I have 3 Apple computers connected to my home network. I have a Macbook Air Running Mavericks, I new 27 inch iMac running Yosemite, and a 4 year old iMac running Yosemite. Â
The older iMac I use as a place to store my content. My music, movies, and pictures. When I purchase new music ( Yup, I still by CDs from time to time ) I rip them to the iMac than import the CD to my Macbook Air. So home sharing is on for both computers and both the laptop and the older iMac can see each others libraries. Â
I just purchased the new iMac recently and am finally getting around to getting my music moved onto it. So my intention was to turn on Home Sharing then import my music from the older iMac to the newer iMac. Here is where things get odd. I turned on the older iMac ( Home Sharing already turned on ). Then I went down stairs and turned on the new iMac and activated Home Sharing.  Neither iMac was able to see each others library. So I turn on my Macbook Air and now the Macbook Air and the older iMac can see each others libraries but the new iMac can only see the Macbook Airs library and not the older iMacs library.Â
