Friday night I was on my computer on hulu watching some show. All of a sudden the screen goes black and nothing happens. I turn turning it back on it makes like a beep noise and doesn't start up. After about 3 try's it boots up and everything is ok. So I go back to hulu and I'm watching a show and then it crashes again. Try the same process works but I give up and just shut my computer and say Ill take it to the apple store in the morning. Well It was fine all day Saturday until about 11PM. I try same process and it works eventually. I've made sure that the battery is ok by doing the utilities then power battery condition was good.
Safari has crashed 10 times in the past 2 days because of a plug in on my laptop called kidsPCTime.so. I have not downloaded this plug in and I can not find it anywhere on my computer. How do I fix it? I looked in the plug ins library and it is nowhere to be found.
I had a HDD fail. I backed up as much as I could save onto an older 500 gig drive, 365 gig in total. I then bought a bunch of 2 TB drives to make proper backups so I don't loose stuff in future. Anyway I have tried to copy the 365 gig from the older 500 gig drive over to the new 2TB drive. On my Mac pro it crashed three times after getting through about 50 gig. I have just tried connecting both drives to my imac and instead of copying all 365 gig in one go I tried one folder, it is 50 gig.
I have just come home and it says "copying 35.5 gig of 50 gig, about 30 minutes to go, it has crashed. It seems I can't easily back up my drives? They are both formatted as Mac Extended Journaled. I have googled and can't find any reference to this problem. I have checked to make sure my drives don;t go to sleep after 10 minutes and they don't. The files aren't corrupt btw. I have had issues in the past backing up mac drives for some strange reason.
I just got a Early 2011 Macbook Pro 15" i7 that has a broken scissor for the "x" key (I still have the black "x" key itself.  Would the scissors from an late 2007 Macbook Pro 15" be compatible (I've got an old dead keyboard for it that had coffee spilled on it)?Â
I just bought my MBP, It came in on 9/3. I'm not sure if I should be concerned by this or not.
I've had the MBP for 4 days total. Watts and the System Profiler both show that I've had 6 cycles. I'm down to 5506 mAh from 5770 mAh, and I have 95% health left. If it continues at this rate, 95 days (or cycles) or so I'll be down to a useless battery. I performed a cycle 2 days ago.
I use my MBP as such - I charge it to 100%, sometimes I'll continue to use it on the charger, other times I won't. After its charged, if I leave my room with it, I won't charge it again until it gets down to 40% or less. I'll plug it in at the end of the night, and let it charge up. Sometimes I'll take it off the charger once I go to bed, other times I'll let it charge throughout the night.
I've searched around, and haven't found a similar issue. Most of the ones I see are after a few months they are having battery issues. The Battery FAQ doesn't really answer this question for me.
I recall reading that if I keep my MBP plugged to the wall all the time ( I do), I should drain the battery to about 50% every 2-3 days, to keep the battery's juices flowing.
Personally I don't have the patience to do this all the time. Is this step really that important?
recently I've been getting a lot of kernel panics. They usually happen at random times when I'm browsing Safari. Most of the time I can reboot normally but once I got 3 repeating beeps when trying to start-up.
This is from the problem report:

I bought a MacBook in late October, and it was my first, so I'm pretty new to Macs. Love it so far!
But anyway, here's my question -- my battery capacity has been at over 100% since I bought it, according to coconutBattery, and yesterday it dropped to 98%. I decided to calibrate it because I hadn't done that yet. So I let it put itself to sleep and left it that way overnight, then recharged this morning. When I first plugged it in, the capacity was at 99%. Now a few hours later, it's at 95%.
So, is it more likely that my capacity has been 95% for awhile and the calibration just helped synchronize the capacity display with the actual capacity, or did I really lose 5% in two days?!
I'm trying not to be totally crazy obsessive about this, but I really need a good battery life, and I want to keep this one going for as long as possible.
I have no idea what is going on with my battery. Two days ago I downloaded Coconut battery and it showed the battery health at 99%. I checked it today and now it is at 76%. Is my battery already biting the dust? I only have 79 cycles on my Al MB.
The colorful spinning wheel has been stuck on the screen for 2 days now. I can move the cursor around but the wheel never goes away.....I don't know what to do
I always put my 24" iMac to sleep each night when I go to bed by clicking on Finder/sleep. Twice in four days, I've tried to wake it up the next morning by touching the shift key and discovered that it had somehow turned off overnight. I had to turn it on manually with the button in the back. It may be no big deal, but it has me puzzled and a bit frustrated.

I had an Apple "Genius" swap a hard drive from a MacBook 13" to a MacBook Pro 13". When I got it back, the hard drive was unreadable. The "Genius" said that he did nothing wrong and the problem was that the Hitachi hard drive from the MacBook was incompatible with the new MacBook Pro. My original MacBook was purchased in May 2009 and exchanged for the MacBook Pro in July 2009. When I booted the MacBook Pro from the installer disk, and launched Disk Utilities, my internal hard drive was blank/unformatted. How could the Genius destroy my hard drive just by swapping from one MacBook to another?
My new iMac i5 (Mid 2010) is dead... after only 3 days using it...I was watching a movie in quicktime and suddenly all screen was messed up (lots of artifacts and coloful pixels all around).
It looks definitely a hardware problem (I would say a graphics card) anybody knows anyone else having the same problem? Tomorrow first thing in the morning I'll be going back to the store and returning it. I hope to get all my money back (2.000 Euros).
I've been getting panics every couple days with my OSX Lion. I do have vmware running always (which I need to). I'm attaching the dump below and wondering if anyone sees anything suspicious. It always shows chrome as the suspect, but I know chrome should not be able to crash my OS.
Here is the log from th last kernel panic I had. Trying to figure out wha tis going on.Â

is there a way to run Drive Genius on Mac Air? The MA is getting slower by the day and I saw the same symptoms right before my iMac's HDD crashed. I want to run a HDD scan but Drive Genius requires that I scan a non boot drive. Since Target mode is not an option, I am out of ideas.
My MacBook HDD crashed and I just had some questions. This is still in the middle of the quarter and thankfully my midterms are already over so I'm free till finals, besides papers. The problem is I was walking around my apartment and tripped over my chair, which caused the macbook to fall and the hdd to fail. I took it over to the bookstore for them to check it out and they said they could see the hdd but not the partition. I'm not exactly sure what this means but I need 3-5 folders out of my documents folder and the entirety of my pictures folder (completely forgot to back it up). I also needs my bookmarks from firefox and calendar/mail stuff (not sure if that's possible) What are the chances of this happening? I'm giving my mac to a buddy of mine who has a good friend that's a genius at the apple store in OC. I'm just wondering if I can get my information back... or I'm screwed for finals pretty much? On a side note I did order a new MBP so I guess I'll have half the quarter's notes.
My 2010 macbook pro will not boot properly, I am getting the bootstrapper crashed error. I have tried starting by holding down the option button but it only gives me one hard drive to boot from, that is I only have one option to boot from.
I have a boot issue that I've investigated the best I could :- CMD + ALT + P + R didn't fix it
- SHIFT + Power didn't fix it- Power + S in Verbose mode didn't fix it- Even restarting with the ALT key to choose the Recovery partition and reinstalling OSX Mavericks (successfully) didn't fix anything - Of course, Permission Repair and Disk Repair (I did it more than 10 times) didn't fix anything as well.Â
The Hard Drive is working fine, as I've mounted it in USB as a Target Disk and I can access all its files and datas, everything's good.
So it's definitely and solely a Boot issue. When I start in Verbose (Power + V) mode, I have these last 5 lines that are the only clues I have on this issue :
BootCacheControl : Unable to open /var/db/BootCache.playlist: 2 No such file or directory BootCacheControl : Unable to open /var/db/BootCaches/PreheatedUser/Merged.playlist: 2 No such file or directory BootCacheControl : Unable to open /var/db/BootCaches/PreheatedUser/Login.playlist: 2 No such file or director BootCacheControl : Added 32-bit shared cache to the low priority batch
And finally, it says:
com.apple.launchd 1 com.apple.launchctl.System 2 The system bootstrapper has crashed: Segmentation fault: 11  I don't want to Format + Reinstall. I want to fix it!
Info: MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5), 16 Gb of DDR3, 1Tb HDD.
Afrer finishing a 15 page paper my computer crashed. The charger would not light up when I plugged it in and now the light is very faint. The computer will not turn on at all it has made no noise and there is no light coming from it.
I have to delete .plist files..and it usually starts working right away. (com.apple.systempreferences.plist and com.apple.preference.desktopscreeneffect.plist) I've tried resetting the PRAM, etc. The problem gets fixed, only to return about a week later. My screen saver is always set to turn on after 3 minutes.
This may sound like a stupid question but bare with me here. The Ubuntu computer next to my mac pro has a problem with wireless so I share my internet from my mac pro to it via ethernet. I have to download a large 20 gig file that will take about 2 days, on my ubuntu computer, and Im going to boston so lets say 4 days. Is it safe to leave my mac pro running for over 4 days straight? I don't want to overheat or anything.
