MacBook :: Battery Capacity Dropped 5% In Two Days?

Nov 18, 2009

I bought a MacBook in late October, and it was my first, so I'm pretty new to Macs. Love it so far!

But anyway, here's my question -- my battery capacity has been at over 100% since I bought it, according to coconutBattery, and yesterday it dropped to 98%. I decided to calibrate it because I hadn't done that yet. So I let it put itself to sleep and left it that way overnight, then recharged this morning. When I first plugged it in, the capacity was at 99%. Now a few hours later, it's at 95%.

So, is it more likely that my capacity has been 95% for awhile and the calibration just helped synchronize the capacity display with the actual capacity, or did I really lose 5% in two days?!

I'm trying not to be totally crazy obsessive about this, but I really need a good battery life, and I want to keep this one going for as long as possible.

MacBook :: Dropped Battery Options With New Battery?

Dec 22, 2010

My battery needed replacing for a couple of months before i dropped it from about knee level onto a sidewalk. After the drop I got the not charging icon. I thought maybe the battery had just finally died. so I did not panic about the no charge. The laptop works fine when plugged in to power with the old battery on or no battery at all. Not at all when unplugged. When I put the brand new battery on the lap top, the computer shuts down halfway through boot up.

MacBook Pro :: 5% Battery Loss In 4 Days?

Sep 7, 2010

I just bought my MBP, It came in on 9/3. I'm not sure if I should be concerned by this or not.

I've had the MBP for 4 days total. Watts and the System Profiler both show that I've had 6 cycles. I'm down to 5506 mAh from 5770 mAh, and I have 95% health left. If it continues at this rate, 95 days (or cycles) or so I'll be down to a useless battery. I performed a cycle 2 days ago.

I use my MBP as such - I charge it to 100%, sometimes I'll continue to use it on the charger, other times I won't. After its charged, if I leave my room with it, I won't charge it again until it gets down to 40% or less. I'll plug it in at the end of the night, and let it charge up. Sometimes I'll take it off the charger once I go to bed, other times I'll let it charge throughout the night.

I've searched around, and haven't found a similar issue. Most of the ones I see are after a few months they are having battery issues. The Battery FAQ doesn't really answer this question for me.

MacBook Pro :: Drain The Battery To About 50% Every 2-3 Days?

Nov 16, 2010

I recall reading that if I keep my MBP plugged to the wall all the time ( I do), I should drain the battery to about 50% every 2-3 days, to keep the battery's juices flowing.

Personally I don't have the patience to do this all the time. Is this step really that important?

What are your thoughts?

MacBook Pro :: Battery Heath Dropped 10% After Calibration?

Jun 21, 2010

Last night I calibrated my battery. Let it fully charge for 2hrs, took it off the charger, turned up the screen brightness and keyboard backlight all the way, then proceeded to run the battery down watching videos and whatnot. It went to sleep and I went to bed to let it sit for 5 or more hours. Woke up, charged it up, turned it on and noticed that I went from 97% to 87% (coconut battery says 86%) and I only have 54 cycles. Should I go to the genius bar or something? Or try re-calibrating the battery? Did I do something wrong when I did it? Does it matter how long it takes to run down the battery after it's fully charged?

MacBook Pro :: Battery Life Has Dropped Suddenly?

May 4, 2012

I used to be able to use my macbook pro all day at school, from 8:50 till 16:00 without charging it at all, no problem. Suddenly however, over the easter holidays (about 3 weeks) It dropped significantly, barely managing 2 hours. During the holidays it was almost constantly plugged in to the mains, but this hasn't caused problems before, I've had it about 18 months and had longer holidays with no change. A few months ago I upgraded my ram from 4gb to 8, but it didn't seem to affect it at the time. (I know it still says 4gb in my info but the forums won't let me change that for some reason)

Info:
Mac OS X (10.6.5), 2.4 GHz intel core duo , 4gb 1067 Mhz ddr3

Mac Pro :: Unit With A Bigger Battery Capacity Allow Battery To Take Extra Load

Apr 13, 2009

I just got a Mac Pro Octo 2.93. It has a 4870 card and 4 1tb drives. I also have a Sonnet E4P e-SATA card installed. Would a 780 Watt 1200 VA surge suppressor be enough?

The other question is about waking the computer up. My old G5 Quad (7800 GT card, E4P card, 2 500gb drives and 8gb RAM) would wake up and while the afore mentioned surge suppressor would beep, the room electrical breaker wouldn't be tripped. Using that same suppressor for the Mac Pro results in the breaker being tripped when the computer wakes up. Would getting a bigger suppressor help with this? In other words, does a unit with a bigger battery capacity allow the battery to take the extra load when the computer wakes up preventing the breaker from tripping?

MacBook :: Dropped 13"- Battery Door Moved And Now Won't Line Up Properly?

A dad dropped my aluminuim Macbook 13" and the system runs fine, no issues with that, but I noticed the battery door had moved and wedged itself so there were gaps at the edges. I removed the door, and try as I might, I can't get it to line up properly.I'm really upset about this, as I've had it for a year now and really looked after it.I have the three year Apple Care plan, and I'm going to an Apple shop on Saturday about my iPhone anyway- do you think this problem is fixable?

MacBook Pro :: Battery Capacity 87% After 51 Cycles

Sep 3, 2010

My AppleCare expires on Monday September 6th, and I am wondering if my 87% capacity at 51 battery cycles suggests I should visit an Apple Store this weekend? The closest store is around 25 miles away, so if I would be wasting my time, I would rather not take the trip. My concern is mostly based on my warranty ending. This is a 2009 13" MBP.

MacBook Pro :: Can Battery Capacity Increase From What It Was?

Sep 22, 2010

I used an app on my MBP called Coconut battery. it said that my current battery capacity was 94% of what it was since I bought it. I assumed that means those 6% are never coming back and I should start using it more responsibly to make it last longer. I read a lot of forums on how to use your notebook effectively, when to plug it in, how much I should let it discharge etc. After 2 weeks of my new habits, I checked my battery life again and now it says 96%. Is it even possible for it to go back up?

MacBook Pro :: Current Battery Capacity 96%

Oct 20, 2010

I have MacBook Pro about 17 months old (bought new Summer 2008). According to Coconut Battery, my current battery capacity is 96% after 185 cycles (see below). This was taken just after I re-calibrated the battery last night. I usually work the laptop from the battery ... I rarely leave the laptop plugged in unless charging, and when fully charged I always unplug and run the battery down before plugging in again. So, is 96% battery capacity good or bad for a 17 month old MacBook with 185 charge cycles? Is the way I'm charging ok, or is it better to have the MacBook plugged in continuously and have less charge cycles (would this give me a better battery health %)?

MacBook :: Battery With More Capacity After 8 Months Use?

Apr 4, 2009

Got a question about the battery in my wife's white Macbook. I just downloaded (and ran for the first time) Coconut Battery and it reports the following info:

Current Battery Charge: 5281 mAh
Maximum Battery Charge: 5281 mAh

Current Battery Capacity: 5281 mAh
Original Battery Capactiy: 5020 mAh

Battery-LoadCycles: 60
Age of your Mac: 8 months

Now, I'm no rocket scientist, and I'm definitely not complaining, but how in the world does my battery have More capacity now than it did when it was new? Is this an error in Coconut? System Profiler reports the same capacity and my research online seems to concur that 5020 mAh was the original capacity.

MacBook :: Battery Capacity Only 3 Hours

May 4, 2009

I've got a 4 month old Macbook Aluminum 2.4 ghz. I was getting great battery life for the first couple of months. But I'm now getting 3:10 with screen half light, and wifi on, bt off, doing a bit of downloading, etc. I've recalibrated the battery a number of times. According to activity monitor my cpu is hovering under 10% when I'm doing my battery test. This is at least 2 hours less than I was originally getting. Coconut Battery tells me that the original capacity was 4100, but its currently at 4052. Battery load-cycles are at 97 and it says the Mac is 5 months old. Should I take it in to the Apple store under AppleCare?

MacBook Pro :: 87% Battery Capacity After 56 Cycles?

Mar 1, 2010

I get ready for the next disappointment tomorrow (maybe no MBP update) and looking out for a MBP at eBay. I've found a good one (August 2009) 2.53 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 500GB HDD etc. for round about 900 (1.200$) (in Germany we pay 1533 for this model so round about 2088$). The guy sent me a screenshot of the battery capacity which is 87% (4762mAh) after 56 loadcycles. Is that acceptable? IMO it's a bit too low - what do you think? Maybe I'm going to buy a AppleCare Protection Plan afterwards ... would the battery be covered?

MacBook :: Dropped Computer - Removed Battery - Optical Drive Makes Noise

Nov 14, 2010

So today I managed to drop my MacBook a short distance to the ground. I can't believe I did this. The computer was asleep at the time and, as far as I can tell, the internal HDD is perfectly fine. After I dropped the computer it wouldn't at first wake up from sleep. After removing the battery and replacing it, it booted back from the state saved to the HDD. My problem is that my optical drive makes noises now. I never use it, but whenever the machine tries to access it (waking from sleep, launching Disk Utility, etc) it makes noises as if the eject mechanism is running constantly or something else like that. The case also slightly bulges where the drive is. Now, if it doesn't work ever again I will only be slightly sad. I haven't tried to put a disc in it yet, but because of a previous spill by a previous answer the fibers around the opening are so stiff that getting a disc out of the drive when it works is a pain. Any ideas of what might be wrong and how to possibly fix it? I haven't tried resetting the drive, I don't have the time tonight.
