So I was on my MacBook and all of a sudden the screen gets some weird lines on it and then freezes. I turn it off and turn it back on and I get a black screen and 3 short beeps and it keeps going. Well I called apple and they said it is a hardware issue. I goggled it and found it is a memory issue (maybe).

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy new MacBook Pro has started to randomly totally lock up. The display will fill up with horizontal flashing lines, the keyboard freezes and then it will start beeping 3 long beeps continuously. the only way to stop this is to hold down the power button untill it shuts down. Restarting it can take quite a while because it just comes up with a black screen and continues to beep 3 times. Eventually it will start normally and work for a while till this all repeats itself again. It does this randomly, sometimes it will work correctly for days, sometimes 5 minutes. This is my first Mac and I`m not sure if I made the right move now.....

i tried turning on my iMac an hour ago and it whirred up with a black screen while beeping continuously, each beep an equal distance apart. I tried counting the beeps a few times and they don't seem to stop (I counted up to about 30 before i decided to stop, they kept going!)
I've read a few forum posts, and other things related on the internet, but no-one has a problem with continuous beeping. I don't know how to open up my mac book and replace RAM, or anything of the sorts.
I'm running 8GB RAM as I have been for several months now. I typically run several apps at a time for days at a time rarely dipping below 1GB available. When I do I use the Free Memory app to free up RAM. Â
Minutes ago I left my MBP for a couple minutes to do something across the room. It began making single short beeps spaced a couple seconds apart. When I ran over to check out what was going on I noticed the display had 2-3 vertical stripes through it each containing dozens of horizontal colored bars. The beeps continued without stopping. The display was unusable for the duration. I could not tell if th keyboard or trackpad were responding so I chose ot reboot. Â
After reboot it seemed fine and reopened all of the apps that had been running previously. Or is this a sign of specific hardware beginning to fail?

I was using my MacBook Pro and all the sudden the screen started to flash and then went gray with lines and then black. I turned it on and off multiple times, tried to restart it but the screen will never turn back on. The computer makes the noise like it is turing on and the keys light but but the screen doesn't change.

While using Google Sketchup and several other prgrams concurrently my macbook air cpu heats up substantiall. I like keeping the air "open" to allow for maximum heat disipation but of course this keeps the air screen on while I only want to use my external monitor. Is the only way to turn of the air screen turning down the brightness and using the "Mirror Display" option or is there another setting which alows my to utilize only the external display while the screen is open on the air?

My MacBook Pro's display and keyboard don't seem to work. The laptop turns on you can hear the hard-disk sound but there is no display at all and the keyboard too does not work ie. the caps light the num-lock light do not turn on. However the flicker white light blinks as does the charger and battery pilot light. Tried SMC PRAM to no use. As its a blank screen don't even know if the trackpad is working. Bought my MacBook pro in 2006, 15".

I have a problem with my mini/quicktime setup and i was hoping for some help from you all at macrumors...
Here is the setup
This system is setup for a admissions office in which we have a mac mini set up to a LCD screen that is all mounted on a wall.
we have the mini on timer to come on from 1230-5pm and when the mini comes on, quicktime is set to automatically open and play the admissions video.
Now here is the problem:
when I turn on the LCD every day, the screen is blank but Ican still hear the video, I figured it was in hibernation so i move the mouse and hit the keyboard and nothing. i need to push the power button and hold it for a couple seconds then the movie comes on but the video is choppy.
here are the specs on the mini: 1.25 power pc G4, 512 Ram.
its old but its only function is to play this video...
When I turn my computer on nothing happens. You can hear the drive or cooling fans but there is nothing on the screen. Normally there is the spinning wheel but now nothing.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook Pro 13 for portability to my classes at the university and a Dell 2209WA as an external monitor. One of the few good IPS monitors I could find around for cheap.
The monitor works fine in mirror mode with the MacBook Pro, but as an external display only it does not work. It attempts to wake up and then you see power savings mode again and the screen goes black as if there was no connection. Not sure what exactly the problem here is. Drivers?
The monitor works great with a Mac Mini I have and it works great in mirror but not in external display mode(the lid of the MacBook Pro closed). Anybody know of this issue? The cable is good and the MacBook Pro is not that old(a few weeks).
For the past few months i have been using an external display hooked up to my 12" powerbook g4. I have had it on a dual display mode so no mirroring. Recently i would open the laptop lid waking it from being in sleep mode and my internal display will not turn on. The apply system profiler does not even recognize that the internal display exists. My external display works fine and has always been set as the main display. If i go to detect displays nothign happens. I have tried restarting the computer, instering system disks, unplugging the external and nothing has worked. I simply cannot get my internal screen to fire back up. When i used to unplug my external display the internal display would switch back to being the main display and everything would be fine. Now i cannot get the internal display to function whatsoever. Please try and help me as a need this laptop working and i will be ordering a mac pro soon for use with my external display.

I'm interested in the new iMac but could not work with a glossy display. Can anyone share their experiences of using the iMac with an external display? In one respect it seems like a waste to have two monitors but the base model costs little more than the maxed out Mini and seems like the better option.
I would be interested in seeing photos of any setups featuring the iMac and an external display.
Also, is there a way to turn off the iMac display when using an external display?
I was successfully connected my MBP with External Display Philips 107T4, my question is How to Totally Turn of my LCD monitor so I can lid my MBP and use external monitor only. Recently I used this tips. Just restart my MBP and close the MBP, but I really thanks you, if any one have some another tips to do this without restart my MBP. (some times I have a lot off open document and I don't want to re open each document again).

I know that the web have a lot of tips similar to this that i will ask, but i couldn't find no one exactly with what i want
I bought a new monitor, and mini-dvi adapter, an external keyboard and mouse to plug on my macbook
I would like to know how to turn off the macbook display without having to close it. I want to know that because if i don't close the macbook, both displays are on. If i close the macbook, the computer goes to sleep and then i press some keys on keyboard and the mac wake. In that point, if i open my macbook the display is turned off like i want. But i don't want to have to close the macbook all the time, and i don't want to leave the macbook closed because closed the temperature goes high.
The display on my MacBook Pro turn on even though the lid is closed.
1.Sometimes The apple logo lights up and then turns of on itself when the lid is closed.
2. Various times have i closed the lid of my MacBook Pro and then re open it and the screen is still on and it has not entered the Login screen.
3. If i click the Sleep option on the apple menu it goes to sleep, so i close the lid but it eventually wakes up out of the blue.

I have a 2008 non-unibody MacBook Pro. When I boot the computer, sometimes the display does not turn on. I've tried using the flashlight technique, and there isn't even anything on the LCD. I know the computer is on because it makes the chime and if I enter my password I can adjust the volume and play music. Occasionally, resetting the SMC will fix the issue temporarily, but it doesn't always work. What should I do?

1.turn into black screen after running for about 15 mins, but the system is still running because the keyboard is still functional. After reboot, i record the log as below, it shows that it is a GPU Panic. Â
2. display would not turn on after pressing the power button but can still hear the apple start up chime and the system keep running with the screen off.Â
3. after erased the hard drive and re-installed Mavericks. Under a new installed system, it can run normally for about 1 day, after that especially after a shut down or restart, the problems above came back. Â
I am currently working in Thailand but I have no plan to go back to the US in a short period of time. I brought the laptop to the local apple service, they said it is certainly the logic board or GPU failure and the parts need to be replaced. The cost of the replacement is around half of the price that I paid for this laptop.

A few days ago I began having trouble with my Mac Pro (Dual Proc. 2.8 Ghtz, 2 GB RAM, DVI display, OS 10.5) It would not wake up after going to sleep. I did the PRAM and SMC resetting thing, and I thought it had worked, but now just two days later, the computer does turn (the bell rings a la Wall-E and everything) but the display remains blank. I plugged the display into a MacBook pro and it worked fine, so I'm guessing the problem is the DVI port. 3 questions arise:
Does anyone know of a sure-fire way to find out if the DVI ports ARE the problem? I did hook up the computer to a Power Mac (G4 running OS 10.4.11) in transfer mode, and the HD did load, I also performed the first aid thing on it and everything came back positive.
Does anyone know if changing the DVI ports is simple enough to do, or should I definitely leave to a professional? (I am fairly familiar with putting stuff in and out of it)
Should I buy the DVI card directly from Mac or can I get by with a less expensive brand?
I recently upgraded from my Macbook to a refurbished Macbook Pro and since the day I got it it has been giving me problems. Applications quite suddenly all the time and the system freezes and runs sluggish. The biggest prob is the display. It goes black and won't come back on. Sometimes when it goes blank you can see faintly if you look carefully and you can hear sounds. It slowly deteriorates from a once a week occurrence to a daily one until it won't turn on at all. I reinstall everything once a month. I took my computer to the mac store they ran all the diagnostic tests they have and said it is not a hardware problem. I have now wiped out all of my non-apple applications and the problem is back.
