MacBook :: Coffee Spill - Still Turns On, But Mouse And Keyboard Are Faulty
Apr 26, 2009
I recently spilled a little bit of coffee on the corner of my MacBook. It didn't get past the F key and only was about three rows of keys. Less than 1/8 cup.
I immediately pulled the power plug and turned it off.
I left it to dry for a day upside down and turned it on. Everything seemed fine, except that after a little while the mouse started to right click on its own and when I typed, it was a combination of letters and numbers.

I spilled coffee on my macbook about a month ago and put it into a bag of rice for a week to try and get the moisture out.. but it had been turned on for a while after it was spilled, so had already done some damage. Basically, the hard drive seems to be completely in tact: all of my files are still there, unharmed, and the screen works perfectly.Only a few of the keys on the keyboard, however, work... basically just the top row, space bar, and enter keys. Also, the mouse pad stll works to move your finger around on, but every time i click with it it acts as if the CONTROL key is being pressed down, and therefore uses a "right-click" function rather than a normal click! this is ok for opening some things?I sm a broke student and am trying to work out how to fix this with the least money possible.. have seen online that you can buy an entire top case for the mac and replace that (my house mates are fairly computer savvy and would be able to d that for me)... but how do i know if this will fix it? could it be something with the logic board instead? I accidentally spilled some vitamin water on my macbook pro. Lucky, besides the keyboard getting a little bit sticky, there's no problem with my machine. Is there any easy way to clean the keyboard?

I spilled coffee patron (which is a syrup-like coffee flavored tequila) on some keys on my macbook 13" last night. I immediately flipped it upside down and wiped it dry. I then wet a cloth to try to save it from stickiness. It was fine but today the space bar, the "b", "command", "option", & "control" keys are very sticky. Also my caps lock, tab and the squiggly dash (that's use to abbreviate the word approximately above the tab key) are not sticky but don't work at all! My caps lock wont even light up! I would like to remove the keys to wipe under it before taking it to apple care. (which will most likely turn me down.)

I've notice the bottom arrow on my arrow keys, located on the bottom right corner of the keyboard doesn't have as springy of a bounce as it once did. About 3 days ago I got the impression it kinda felt a bit sticky. Having a baby brother I'm fearing the worst. The performance of my MBP hasn't changed at all, however having only 4 months left allowed to purchase and extend AppleCare I wouldn't want to buy it for no reason. That and I always like to rest assured my Mac is in pristine condition.

I was drinking some tea and bumped into the table the mug was sitting on. A couple of drops splashed out and got on my unibody macbook pro's keyboard. I quickly wiped it off and turned off the computer. I let it sit for a while, but I didn't think anything of it because it was only a few drops. I turned it on and it was fine, however the keyboard's backlight is dim on the right side of the keyboard.

I had a bit of an accident and dropped some coffee on my Macbook Pro 13" Unibody. It's been about a week, I didn't touch anything because I wanted it to dry but it seems something went wrong and the keyboard just won't work anymore. The backlight still works and the trackpad still works too, although it has gotten a bit sticky (like the keyboard). I didn't have AppleCare for this computer, and am still in my first year of warranty.
Is there any chance that I could work out a deal with Apple about buying AppleCare and them fixing this? Considering AppleCare would be 219.99 since I am a full-time student, this would be a way better deal for me then having to pay for the Uppercase (which, as it seems, is the only way to fix my keyboard) which starts at around 280$, plus labour (which I would do myself). Otherwise, does anyone know a good website for refurbished parts for Macbook Pro (in my case, the Upper case with keyboard and trackpad)?

Brand new macbook air. Got a coffee spill on it.
Immediately shut it off and cleaned what I could up, but some coffee got in the keys on the right hand side.
So now, when booting, there is no 'BONG' start up. It asks for a password to login, but it won't accept the right password (like the keys are pressing the wrong buttons) - pressing the 'enter' key during this process puts a character up in the password screen like a different key is being pressed.
Can't log into it. Haven't disassembled it yet to see what I can see, but looking for advice. My wife just bought this for her business (first nice thing she's ever bought herself) and is mortified to have spilled coffee in it after only 4 days.

I have a mid '09 macbook pro unibody and just managed to spill a coke on the keyboard. I immediately grabbed the closest thing, a throw, and mopped up the coke before grabbing a tshirt and trying to blot the rest. As of the first 5 minutes of the spill, no problems. What should I do? The left control, option, and command key's backlight now has a yellowish tint, I assume from coke.

I just spillt my coffee on my macbook keyboard. The spill was localized to my keyboard, fortunately, and no other components were affectes, which is great. All my letters and numbers are 100% there. Some of my punctuation is a bit off - my apostrophes become semicolons, for example, I don:t know what to do. I:ve also got a bunch of other odd problems going on but only when holding down shift. I removed my ram and reinstalled it as part of my clean. Because a lot of my punctuation issues only occur with modifier keys, I think I might have broken something during the deep clean )I was messing with RAM, etc...0 but I:m not to experiences with hardware repair.
What should i do??? Do you think it really is software and updating my keyboard firmware will do good? should I go to iFixIt and pick up a new keyboard? given a guide, I could do the repair myself if it comes to it.My backup plan is to do a full heart transplant - pull the HD and put it in another computer. I love my alumium macbook though, and I hope it doesn:t come to that.

It's basically like this: I can right click. However, if I try to right click within 2/3 from the right side, the shell button moves down, but it doesn't actually trigger the button underneath unless I press fairly hard after the top shell is already pressed down all the way. It probably sounds really nitpicky, but it's extremely irritating to keep on trying to press the button and not have it work.

So I've recently purchased the new 13" MBP, and to my understanding, there is a light sensor that turns up the brightness of the backlit keyboard and screen when in dark environments.
However, the problem with my MBP is that when I turn on the lights in my room, the screen brightness and backlit keyboard both turn brighter, and when I turn off the lights, the screen and keyboard grow dimmer, which is exactly the opposite of what is supposed to happen.

So my friend was using his MacBook and went to do something else. He came back and the screen was black, he hit space and nothing, tried the trackpad and nothing. He restarted by holding the Power button, and it go to the log-in screen, but he can't type anything, or use the trackpad. He has tired restarting several times and no luck. He also tried an external Keyboard/Mouse and that didn't work.
He did plug in a Flash drive and the light turned on, so the USB ports are at least getting power, but nothing is working.

Every few minutes my 13" MBP completely stalls, video and music pauses, can't do anything with my MBP and the mouse icon turns into that waiting icon. I don't know what it's called but it's round with colours inside it.Anyways, it stops me from what I'm doing for about 20 seconds and happens every few minutes and it's beginning to annoy me now!

Recently I bought a new mouse, I was overexcited and plugged it in, and there was a pop up saying there was a new keyboard but I clicked "Contine" this mouse doesn't work at all now, I thought it doesn't support mac at all! I searched about it on the net, they said that when they got that same pop up, they click "x" at the top left corner, you now, exits the pop up and got to use the mouse immediately. I tried it at my dad's laptop, got the same pop up but instead of clicking continue, I clicked "X" The mouse Works. So now I think this mouse is recognized as a keyboard on mine.

I have a Mid 2010 MacBook Pro A1286 that I accidentally spilled water in it in my sleep while in Iraq. When I realized what I’ve done the computer had shut down. I picked it up from the ground and it was soaked with water. I didn't try to turn it on, left for about two months to allow it to dry. I was afraid to charge it up but I pushed the power button to see if it will turn on but it didn't. I open the bottom cover and it looks like there was a burned spot on the logic board. My MacBook came with I5 but I replaced it myself with a I7 logic board. To test the hard drive I took it out and put it in and external enclosure and tested it with a window based computer by installing a Macdrive on the windows HP computer and it was working fine. Now I have put my MacBook together and when I powered it up, the apple logo is on the grey screen and a little circle as if is loading up but the nothing happens. I tried that reset trick Command, Option, P and R but it's still doing the same thing.
