Yesterday I updated Adobe Flash Player, and now I am having all kinds of unnatural behavior on my MacAir.
MS Word crashes, or freezes and Pages is not working properly. there is a constant loud whirr like the guts of the MacAir are about to fly out.My computer is now freezing. Am I correct in assuming it is the Flash Player, or what should I check? Can I get along ok without the Flash? I would like to just dump it!

I have a late 2008 uMB running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and every time I wake my computer up from sleep, 3 or 4 of my open applications will crash. This has been happening since a few weeks after I installed Snow Leopard. This always happens with firefox, netnewswire, tweetie, and sometimes iTunes. There are also a few other programs that do this intermittently. This becomes very annoying because 4 crash report windows will pop up, and I will lose all my open tabs and anything I was doing with those programs.
View 2 Replies View RelatedApogee Maestro software was bouncing in the dock, then settled - but nothing happened. Same with skype. I could only force-quit both applications. Quicktime does the same, although if I leave it for 5 minutes, quicktime does launch - but all the controls are very laggy and playback is very stuttery (as in 4/5 frames every 30 seconds. I ran disk utility, and some permissions needed repairing. I then checked the boot disk and a 'significant/serious (whatever the nomenclature is) error' was found, so I ran the boot disk for Leopard and repaired the disk, which Disk Utility seemed happy enough with.
The problems are all still present though. Clicking through folders on all three of my drives is very slow, and luck alone seems to determine the success of attempting to launch any application. Does anyone know what may be happening - or is there any diagnostic software which may help? I've suffered hard disk failure before, and this doesn't seem like it (although I am backed up).
We are using a Imac 27" mid 2010, Mac OS Lion. When an email arrives while working in Quark or Photoshop (and other programs) we leave the program and go to mail to read it. On returning to either Quark or Photoshop etc the program has stopped responding requiring a force quit. Mail also seems to be running slower than usual.

I've got a problem with my Mac - it's a 2.1ghz Macbook (not the new type, the polycarb one) running Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and all of the latest updates. Well, apart from the newest iTunes version as for some reason it won't let me install that...anyway.
Whenever I open a folder with a large number of JPGs in it (about 300, 700mbs worth) in Finder, it only loads that screen of thumbnails. Scrolling up and down will crash Finder for about 3 minutes until those thumbnails load. Trying to Quick Look any of those images will crash Finder completely and bring the whole machine to a standstill with the spinning pinwheel - in the end, it will quit with a EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS) message.
This has only started happening recently. At first I thought it was a problem with Finder, but if it's causing other apps to crash then it's something else...
Opening any of the images in that folder with an app such as Xee will cause that app to crash with the same message.
I've done these things so far:
- Delete preference files
- Clear all DSTOREs from the boot volume
- Reset SMC
Looking at the problems other people have had, it points toward possible bad RAM although the BAD ACCESS message seems to be fairly generic.
I've had a Mac for about a year now and I can't count how many problems I've had like this. Most of them have been solved by Google-ing the symptoms, but I'm at a dead end with this. The last Software Update prevented the machine from booting past the loading screen so I've already had to reinstall once. In the two years before I had my Dell with XP, I never had any problems, however small...and I've had to hard power down this thing due to software crashes more times than the Dell. If these problems are part of Mac ownership, it's a shame as I really like it, but I'm going back to XP otherwise.
I have had my 27" Imac for about 2 years now and I am starting to have problems with it running slow. Iphoto and itunes and sometimes safari stop responding and then crash, I then get a problem report which has pages of information, what can I do? do I need to reload the OS?

I have a question about using my new samsung tv as a monitor for my macbook. I have all the cables and such and my TV reads the computer. It actually shows the desktop background, mouse, and the toolbar on the tv...
BUT....when i try and open a program such as safari or itunes it does not display the program on the monitor but rather on my macbook screen. It shows the program open on the tv monitor but it shoots off the screen and then opens on the macbook screen.
Also the mouse disappears from the tv monitor screen on the left side only, and when it does it becomes visible back on the macbook screen! Any tips or suggestions on how to get the programs to show up on the monitor instead of the macbook screen?
Recently, in the middle of working with applications in iPhoto09 they simply crash. I get a message stating no harm was done but it's getting annoying as it's happening more often than not. I am new to mac, have had it now for maybe two weeks, but wouldnt expect apps to crash this often. Any thoughts?

I installed some new samsung 1gb x 2 ram.
The hardware test and techtool show no problems but I'm positive the ram is the culprit.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a new MBP and am loving it so far. What I have come to realize is that I still can't part with my PC programs....yet.
I hear a lot of different things/opinions about what software runs PC programs the best on a Mac. I'm a Macn00b so whatever is the easiest to run with/operate is probably going to be the best for me. So, my question is, what is the best software to run PC programs on your Mac?
What are some programs you use that you feel are necessary? What do they do? Why are they necessary? I use smcFanControl, gfxCardStatus, and iStat. smcFanControl obviously lets you control your fan speed. gfxCardStatus lets you choose your graphic card or use the default dynamic switching. iStat is of course the famous widget that basically tells you everything you need to know about whats going on inside. I feel all of these are necessary for me to have complete control of my Macbook Pro.

I am getting my first MacBook Pro tomorrow, and i am just curious as to how i could run Windows only software on it. It will only be a couple of games and music software, but i dont have the OSX version, and i dont really want to buy a new version. I'd rather get a free program that does the same thing as Paralells, but if there is any other paid software that is reliable id like to know.

As stated above I upgraded my memory to Crucial 8G 1067 mhz DDR3. The initial results were outstanding however over the past few months the performance has decreased and I'm now getting the spinning ball often. Additionally the startup seems very sluggish. I use Onyx for maintenance and do not have any startup programs. I have also reset the kernel cache. (If I remember correctly)Â
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am about to purchase my first mac ever (black macbook) and while i've extensively done my research on the hardware specs, i'm not that familiar with the types of programs to use for certain things. With that being said, i was wondering if you well-informed bunch would be able to steer me in the direction of the best programs in the following fields.
*Best Bit torrent client (i had Bit comet on my PC and was pretty good)
*Best music-listening program (had Winamp)
*Best Chat client (had trillian)
*Best program to transfer music to ipod (also just got my first ipod ever and hate iTunes -- i had a Creative ZEN and am a big fan of the 'Drag-and-Drop' method
*Best web browser (Firefox or safari?)
Thats all i can think of right now. Again, if anybody can give me a heads up, i'd greatly appreciate it.
I'm trying to install programs, I get past the agreement page and as soon as i start putting my password in the spinny disc starts spinning... its looks like its installing, writes all the files and when it looks like its installed it says failed, contact manufacturer... I thought maybe it was just that program so I tried a different one and the same thing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to have an idea of what to download when I get my MBP in 2 weeks, as in if there are any exclusive programs for Mac that aren't on Windows. I at least plan on downloading Firefox, Chrome, Skype, AIM, Google Earth, Videora (is there a better alternative that comes with OSX?), etc.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an existing macbook 2007 model, and am looking to upgrade. Would you:
A). Keep the MacBook for now and get a new iMac i5 (so you had a big one for home, and could carry the small one around to school etc)
B). Upgrade to a new MacBook Pro when they get released and just have 1 computer.
I figured that if I sold my macbook it would bring the MacBook Pro option down to the same price as the iMac (taking into account increased amount for Applecare etc.). So out the pocket choices A and B would cost within a hundred bucks. I do need a laptop for my master's program, but it's mostly taking notes etc. So any laptop would do, but at home I play games and mess with video and photography, so would like a computer that could handle that as well.
I have a macbook operating on mac OS X version 10.5.8 processor 2.13 intel core duo, memory 4gb 667 mhz ddr2. Lately I have been experiencing programs crashes i.e. program not responding also sometimes when I try to access system preferences it does not respond, I have to force quit all the time.
