How do I remove old programs That I no longer want or need?

I would like to go through my mac and clean it up. In doing so, what is the best method for deleting programs completely. I want to make sure that they no longer exist and that the space is freed up.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)
It seems that whenever I uninstall an application, there is always an empty folder of the program I uninstalled in Library>Application Support and possibly others. Why wouldn't OS X delete those automatically after I uninstalled them? They obviously don't take up too much space cause it's just an empty folder, but why doesn't os x automatically delete it?
View 11 Replies View Relatedas an extension to my question regarding RAM utilization, I've decided to upgrade my RAM. I went through the process of removing the underside of my MBP. After taking the screws out and mentally marking which slot they came out of (some are of different size), I pulled the lid up at the black trim area (the "neck" of the display mount) as this was the easiest way to get a non-damaging grip on the metal underside -- read: I avoided using a screw driver on the lid. As I started to lift, I was surprised at the amount of force I needed to use in order to remove the lid; something near the center of the cover was still holding the lid to the underside of the body. In fact, the amount of force I needed to use made me pause to question if I missed an important step other than simply removing the screws. I decided to "go for it" and applied more pressure while pulling the lid up and away from the body and heard a "pop" noise.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a question about using my new samsung tv as a monitor for my macbook. I have all the cables and such and my TV reads the computer. It actually shows the desktop background, mouse, and the toolbar on the tv...
BUT....when i try and open a program such as safari or itunes it does not display the program on the monitor but rather on my macbook screen. It shows the program open on the tv monitor but it shoots off the screen and then opens on the macbook screen.
Also the mouse disappears from the tv monitor screen on the left side only, and when it does it becomes visible back on the macbook screen! Any tips or suggestions on how to get the programs to show up on the monitor instead of the macbook screen?
On the 13 inch macbook - can you pop off the keys individually and put them back on? Similar to say how you would on a standard keyboard? I wanted to know if anyone has done this? I thought I read in another post that you couldn't do this on the Macbook without removing the entire case? One of my kids spilled some soda on my keyboard and it is sticky. I wanted to know if I could just pop them off and clean it or if they don't just pop off.

I bought a macbook pro in july and haven't had any problems until i notice this at the top of my screen this morning. looks like stains or something?
I turned the computer off to see if it would go away since it was just at the top of the screen but when i turned it back on it was still there.
Can you remove the glass from the screens of the glossy MBPs? From what I gather, it's a standard glossy screen a la the white macbook under there, which might be preferable in some cases.

Basically, I'm using a Macbook with Snow leopard (version 10.6.8) and in the last week or two (though it couldn't happened previously and not been noticed) whenever I remove my headphones from the macbook and go to listen to some audio, the mute and volume up/down buttons on my keyboard do not respond to changes in the volume. Â
So when I'm in itunes the only way to change the volume is by pressing pause in itunes itself and to use the slider, the keys F10, F11 and F12 to change them don't do anything. It's the same when watching youtube videos - the audio can only be muted through the button on the website and not through the audio buttons as I can do usually. Â
This problem goes away when I restart the macbook. Obviously it's not a massive issue, but restarting after finishing with my headphones just to have easier control over audio is annoying, and I was wondering if anyone else has this problem or has dealt with it?

My MacBook Pro has recently had a brand new battery put it, it's worked perfectly till now. My mouse was very loose so I decided to tighten it up. So I removed the battery, tightened the mouse and replaced the battery back (I've checked it's right) . However it now won't start up! At all, even when plugged into the mains. A faint flicking green light comes on the charger. Â

I slid my laptop under my bed last night just before I fell asleep. I've pulled it out this morning and there is a huge scratch all the way across the lid. Does anyone know of anything I can use to perhaps buff it out or something?

Now, I need to connect a projector (VGA) and I found that I have a DVI To VGA adaptor that I used with my old macbook pro. When I tried to connect the adaptor, surprise! it does not fit! (because it has four extra pins. What happens if I remove those pins? Will it work? or I will have to also buy a mini display port to VGA Adaptor?

My heart dropped when I heard these screeching noises, but it doesn't look too bad and hopefully eliminates the OCD I tend to have with electronics.

My 17 inch Mac pro laptop just shut down and I can't get it to turn on again. This has happen multiple times over the last six months. Looked through the forum and tried removing the battery and resetting the SMC control to no avail. I was having issues also with the screen a month ago but that resolved by itself. When I took it into the genius bar for screen problems I was told I'd probably need a new CPU board because the vram may be going bad and they just don't fix that problem. Have held off because of a potential $500 repair and awaiting ivy bridge technology. How I can restart my portable. Right now you turn on the machine and the front light stays on for 2 sec and you hear the machine click off?

I'm having trouble starting Mac OS X after removing the Windows partition of Boot Camp.
I get a black screen that reads,
" no bootable device -- insert boot disk and press "
I can load Mac OS X if I press the Option key during startup, and select the Mac hard drive.
How do I load up the Mac OS X system without having to do it manually? I'm a brand new newbie with Macs.
I'm wondering if it would be possible to fit an extra 1.8" sata ssd in my macbookpro 15" without removing the optical drive. This way i can keep my 500GB storage and move the OS to a 128Gb ssd. I was hoping to stick a 1.8" ssd on to my standard hdd. since the 1.8" is only 5mm thick. This would require a new sata cable from the motherboard to my 2.5" and to my 1.8" I'm not sure this exists. Does anybody think this is possible? or not?

View 3 Replies View RelatedA bit silly perhaps, but I was curious if anyone has ever considered removing the optical drive on their MBP in order to save weight. If you do not use it, and don't need to attach a 2nd HD inside, can you not just simply remove it and make your MBP lighter?I looked around for some specs on the internal drive but could not find how much it weighed. Anyone know? The gains would be minimal but hey every little bit helps right? I mean if it's a couple hundred grams that's almost half a pound.
