MacBook Pro :: Won't Recognize Blank CD
May 2, 2012I recently recieved a used MacBook Pro and tried to insert a blank CD but nothing shows up. After a minute or two the CD just pops out of the CD slot.

Mar 31, 2012When I insert a blank cd or dvd I do not get a disc image on the desktop. When I open disc utility I can see the disc in superdrive but I cannot eject it. If I insert any disc that has any kind of info on it then I have no problem.Â

May 12, 2012My MacBook Pro running OSX Lion no longer recognizes blank discs: the disc does not appear on the desktop or in finder.
When I try to burn a playlist from iTunes I get the error message: "The burner is in use by another application".I am also unable to eject the disc using Disk Utility and have to reboot to get the disc out.Other media discs (software, music etc.) are read without a problem.

Nov 3, 2009I am going to install a new SSD drive on my MBP mid-2009. After it is installed, can I then start up computer and then insert the DVD Install operating system disk, or do I install the DVD install disk, then shut down computer and swap the HD drive? I know that I will reformat the disk when Installer begins, but I want to know if the computer will recognize the install disk with a new blank HD in place.

Jun 27, 2012I recently updated to iTunes 10.6.3. Since the update, I have been unable to burn CDs from any iTunes playlist. When I hit Burn, it asks me to insert a blank disc; I do; but then iTunes doesn't recognize that I have done so.Â
Strangely, I am able to burn the CD just fine in Toast Titanium, which did recognize the blank CD -- so the problem isn't with my SuperDrive. It seems as if iTunes isn't talking to the rest of the Mac.Â

Apr 16, 2012I tried to burn a photo cd with the burn folder, but the blank media disc does not mount on the desktop after I insert the blank cd. The computer doesn't know there is a blank media disc in the drive and won't even eject it. I have to reboot the computer for the Imac to spit it out.

When I tried the application to burn the burn folder, I got a message to insert a blank disk. I tried using the Disk Utility, but when I try to select the volume Superdrive, the option is dimmed. How do I eject the blank disk from my Superdrive? I tried restarting but that did not eject it.

May 10, 2012Occasionally while I'm working, the safari window I have open will go white and refuse to reload. I'm always able to type in the address box, and if I have other tabs in the same window they won't blank, but I don't know why it acts this way- is there something wrong with the computer? It isn't one specific site that's causing the problem, it happens across a range of pages. I'm working with Lion software.

May 25, 2012Everytime i reboot,the screen goes white and is unresponsive. I keep pressing random buttons and then manually power it off. After 3-4 attempts,it finally starts,skipping my login screen (i havent typed my password). This worries me as it could be a security flaw apart from the usual discomfort of indefinitely waiting for it to start working.

Feb 25, 2010This has just recently started happening...when I type in a web address such as [URL] it will pop up and then disappear to a blank screen or some other websites just come up blank....does anyone know how I can fix this. My friend just started a new company and I can't even look at her site because it comes up a white blank screen and apparently I am the only who is having this problem. I have reset Safari and even clean up my hard drive with Onyx. Please help!!! Also, I have seen other post regarding this problem and I have clicked on the links for software for parasites but they all seem to be for Windows. I am running Safari on a Macbook 10.4.11

Dec 21, 2010Got this mac friday but haven't really played with it before yesterday. My problem is:
1) Yesterday I went for logging in to facebook, but suddenly the screen went green? Had to close the mac down and start it again.
2) After I had turned it on and was on the desktop the screen (with me doing nothing) went white, and I had to do the same again.
3) This morning when I wanted to turn the mac on, it wouldn't! But few hours later I tried again and there I could turn it on by pressing esc + start button.
Should I call for a replacement? (Already had two - 1 with dead pixel and 1 with creaking).

Jan 1, 2011I was using it in my bedroom, it was plugged in. I went to make some food, and upon my return I am greeted by a blank screen, probably just a hiccup right? So I held the power button down expecting it to spring back in to life. But it didn't. It wouldn't turn back on. At all. Luckily, I thought, I have my old 2006 Macbook that I keep as a back up just for times like this. As it hasn't been turned on for a while, the low battery warning comes on, so I plug it in. 10 seconds later, it hibernates. I switch it back on, but it keeps hibernating for no good reason. So I think restarting it will solve the problem. It didn't. It too, now wouldn't turn back on. At all.
In the space of a few minutes, they both completely died. I've tried resetting SMC, PRAM, everything I've found on Apple's support page and forums like this. Nothing has worked. The light on the power cable glows orange when plugged in, so it is still charging, and the battery indicator lights on the side of the MBP work fine. Aside from that, they are both completely lifeless...........

Jul 2, 2009when I turn on my computer there is a blank screen. You can still hear the normal noises coming from the computer like any normal boot-up. But if I let my computer sit for a while without turning it on, it will turn on with weird almost static noises. If I force shut down then try again, I get the normal boot-up noises. I tried the safe boot-up method,holding down the shift button while turning the computer on, but no dice. I actually tried this method on both the good and static noise boot-up.

Do I need to put the CD in before I boot it up? Will it prompt me to do anything as it boots up?

Mar 25, 2012I'm trying to upgrade to LION to move to iCloud...the folks at the genius bar recommended that I go from 2gb ram to 4. They gave me the website to purchase the memory and told me how to load it. Prior to loading, I shutdown the computer and unplugged it. I then removed the 2 1 gb cards and replaced with 2gb cards. The loading seems to have gone fine, but all I get is a power light on the front of the case and a sound that makes me think it's running....the screen is totallly black though.

Apr 15, 2012I've got a problem with my harddrive, it's on its way out. The Mac will still start, but after a while, the HDD gets stuck and so it's time to replace. I have a full backup on my time machine external hard drive - my question is, how do I get this on the new blank hard drive?Â
I'm using 10.5.8, but I don't have an installation disk. THe HDD was replaced once before under warranty, and the people in the shop were kind enough to stick on the new system, upgrading me from 10.4, so no disk available. I MIGHT have an installation disk for 10.4, but as far as I understand, I would not be able to restore my system because my backup is on 10.5. Â
Also, I'm pondering installing an SSD which would be 125GB (financial reasons prevent me from buying a bigger one).
My current HD is 160GB, i.e. the backup will be bigger than the capacity of the SSD. I presume if I somehow get to install Leopard (or Lion) on it, I can restore selected folders, thereby circumventing the problem?Â

Jun 2, 2012I am currently running OS X Lion. There are no system updates. My macbook pro JUST started doing this. It never did it before. When I shut my computer and let it sit for however long and then open my computer, the screen comes on, and then about 5 seconds after that, the screen goes blank. In order to turn my screen on, I have to adjust the brightness on my keyboard EVERY single time.
