Feb 12, 2010I bought my Macbook in 2008, it is a 13 inch, aluminum. I had the RAM upgraded to 4gigs. After I updated it from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6 it quit waking up. I had to take this macbook back because the command key broke, the store replaced the computer. When I got home from the store I set-up my new Macbook and upgraded it from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6, same issue with the sleep. When I close the lid, and open it the screen remains black. I can hear the hard drive running, I then have to reboot by pressing the power button.Now here is my question: Do you think the RAM is the issue? The store used that same RAM that was in the previous computer that had sleep issues. Do you think it is the RAM or something else.

Jan 4, 2010I'm looking into upgrading the RAM of a late 2006 MacBook Pro from 2 gigs to maximum of 3 gigs. Should I just get a 2 gig chip and replace one of the 1 gig chips with that, or would I be better off purchasing a pair of 2 gig chips and replacing both of the old 1 gig chips with them? So basicly I'm asking wether the RAM chips should be in identical pairs or does it matter?

May 28, 2009I'm trying out Aperture 2 for the first time, I always used Iphoto. I have imported my large library into Aperture. Activity Monitor says that Aperture takes up 1.3 gb of memory when being used and 600 mb when It's not being using it.
Is it normal for Aperture 2 to being using this much memory? Iphoto uses 350 mb of memory. My 2.66 Ghz Quad Core has 6 gig's of memory. I run aperture alongside Iphoto, Firefox, Itunes, New York Times reader, Rhapsody's flash player, etc.

May 27, 2012I have a 2011 Imac and was on the youtube watching a music video when all of a sudden my screen COMPLELETY froze, and a loud clicking noise kept repeating itself nonstop from the speaker, I'm not sure if the sound was coming from the song OR my computer actually making the noise itself. I held down the power button and waited a couple minutes and restarted. The white screen came on with the apple logo, but all of a sudden it completely froze, I waited a few minutes and powered off. I now waited 5 minutes and restarted and it WORKED! Everything seems fine?

It already has 2gigs and I've heard that it can hold a max of 4gigs () And was wondering is it worth upgrading just 2gigs? Will there be a difference is speeds? I also plan on buying SL while I am at it. Yes I am in the upgrade performance mood for my MBP. And unlike a PC you can't really improve the performance to much other than the ram. Also, can I buy some ram on newegg or does it have to be the overpriced Apple ram? Also can I mix ram types? Since it already has 2gigs can I just buy 2 more gigs of a diff brand but same type?

Sep 3, 2009First time this has happened to me during shut down. Second time it has froze in the 1.5 years I have had it. I simply selected shut down and it was shutting down for over 10 minutes. The background was the Purple Leopard background and the Loading Wheel was on the screen. (Not the Pinwheel but the wheel in the lower center of the screen.)

Feb 3, 2012Yesterday I deleted enough files to give myself at least 2 gigs of free memory and yet today when I opened up my macbook it tells me I have only 190MB left, and yet none of the files that I deleted remain on the computer, and my trash is completely empty.Does anyone know of any sort of 'Detox' kind of program or method to get the Macbook to reanalyse how much memory it really has left? It's done this before, but I haven't figured out a way to snap some sense back in the harddrive to remind it of the fact that it deleted those large files ages ago.

MacBook Pro :: Froze And It's Been Doing It Ever Since On An Irregular Basis?
May 21, 2012I have a macbook pro mid 2010 model running OS X Lion 10.7.4 with 8GB of RAM (3rd party upgrade), 128 SSD. Up until about 3 weeks ago everything was running fine. Then one day the mac just froze and it's been doing it ever since on an irregular basis. Some days it will happen 10 times in one day, then it won't happen for 3 days. Symptoms:- The mac will freeze completely, no mouse, trackpad or keyboard input, if itunes is playing a song it will just hang and repeat last 1/2 second of the song like a broken record. The only way out of this state is to do a hard reset. ocasionally I get some screen on startup that says I must hold down the power button to restart. It says this in about 5 different languages. Occasionally starting up the mac gets to the grey screen then doesn't move. Again I must do a hard reset.Â
Attempted Fixes: Booting up in safe mode does not fix the issue. It sometimes freezes in safe mode, or gets stuck on the grey screen. Apple Hardware Test - No issues found after running 3 times in extended mode. Verified/Repaired disks - Problem remains. Restored from a time machine backup. I didn't expect this to fix it, and it didn't.Â

May 13, 2010So I was on stick am yesterday and safari started to bog down, then I couldn't scroll or click on anything at all. So I proceeded to go to force quit menu and the cursor froze. Jun 5, 2012While watching video on hulu last night, my macbook pro running latest OS, froze. Tried to force quit, but no response, so I shut it down via the power button. On first reboot attempt, I got a folder icon with a question mark flashing where the apple usually is, on second attempt, just white screen, on third attempt, white screen until I hot the spacebar, then it booted up very slowly and now running extremely slow, as in it would take about 5 minutes to open an app.

Sep 12, 2014I am running Mavericks lastest update on mid-2012 MacBook Pro. I was installing Windows and following the directions provided in the Apple Support Communities the MacBook froze during the installation of Windows after I answered the prompt about the size of the partition........800 GhB for Mac and 200GhB for Windows 7. I now have a blank grey screen on the MacBook. I get the Apple boot-up when I press the Power up button but nothing happens.Â

Jan 30, 2009I was putting a fresh install of OS X on a friend's MacBook. I put in the disk, it asked me to restart, and I went to Disk Utility (on restore disk) to zero out the data on the hard disk. I clicked partition (since he had a boot camp partition) to 1 partition and clicked apply. Here's where things go kinda weird. The confirmation dialogue comes up and the whole screen froze. I waited for a few minutes but nothing. I then held the power button until it shuts down. Reboot, and there's this beeping noise. It beeps 2 times, stops, and then beeps 3 times. I searched Google, which pulled up entries like bad RAM or something, but my RAM wad upgraded a long time ago, really rare coincidence that it failed while Disk Utility (off the restore disk) froze. I need to install the OS.

Jun 7, 2012I have a 13 in. black MacBook (late 2006) and somehow have managed to break it. Last year I had trouble where the computer randomly messed up how it booted and I had to use live Linux cd's to recover my data. I had to completely wipe the drive that time. Things went blissfully on until yesterday when it froze, after waiting for at least a minute when I held the power button down to kill it. I tried to restart but it froze on the apple with the spinning progress indicator. I killed again, and started in single user mode, where I got a plethora of disk0 I/O errors. After waiting there a while the computer stopped doing anything so I killed again. Now, it doesn't even recognize the fact that the hard drive exists. I am able to boot a Linux cd but there is no hard drive anywhere. All help is great as I don't want to keep using this win7 computer.Â

Dec 4, 2014White macbook pro that was purchased in December of 2010.I was listening to music on ITunes last night, the music stopped and the computer was making some weird noise and froze up. I held the power button to shut it down. Let it sit for a couple minutes and then powered it back on. When it powered it on, it still made the clicking noise, and displayed a blank screen that had a flashing folder with a "?" in it. That's all it did. The noise was coming from the left side of the laptop.

Jun 1, 2014Friday afternoon my Mac froze and after powering down and restarting, it has been extremely slow. Before now it was running perfectly. Now, it takes about 20 minutes to start up and then about another 20 minutes to load the dock and another 20 minutes to open an app, etc. It's impossible to use. I get the loading wheel between every word I type. Â
After running in safe mode/repairing hard drive/etc. nothing had changed. So I just decided to backup all of my stuff and try to restore it to factory settings. I erased the hardrive and set up my computer again. It's still running the same way though. Extremely slow, impossible to use. I'm running on Mavericks 10.9.3. Is there anything I could do or could this be something like a failing hard drive? Â
I bought my mac about 8 months ago. I already made an appointment at the genius bar for tomorrow night but I would really really rather not have to go.
