MacBook Pro :: Trackpad Seems To Have A Mind Of Its Own?

May 2, 2012

My MacBook Pro is new (6 weeks old), and I'm an old Mac user.    The trackpad worked fine for the first few weeks but now has it's own ideas on how it should work.

Sometimes it scrolls, sometimes it just sticks in one place and the only way to scroll the screen is by hitting the up or down arrows.   Can't even raise the scrolly thingy on the right side of the page.    My Preferences are all ticked, for Scrolling and Taps too.

Often I get a pop up menu when I am just clicking on something.  For ex,  in my yahoo email account,  if I hit a box to tag an email for deletion, instead of the tick mark I get the Open popup menu.   Sometimes I get another menu.   Weird,  no rhyme or reason to which pops up.   OK, I just got the little menu to Insert Link/Insert Image etc.   Two finger scrolling.   Now I am trying to scroll down to submit this note, I get the menu that starts with Cut Copy Paste etc.  Like i said, no rhyme or reason, to what menu pops up - even though I'm just 2 finger scrolling.   Crap, now I cannot scroll down to get to the actions, to submit this.  I'll keep trying.

Running 10.7.3

Any ideas or is a trip to the Genius Bar in order?   This is intermittant but increasing in frequency and obviously very annoying.

I scanned another thread on trackpads, sure seem to be a lot of people with trackpad issues but I didn't find the issues I'm experiencing.

Mac OS X (10.7.3)

MacBook Pro :: Computer Appears To Have Mind Of Its Own?

May 21, 2012

I'm using a MacBook Pro, purchased in 2008, running Lion 10.7.4.  My problem is that my cursor is jumping all over the place, will occasionally block out a section of text and then erase it, or the cursor will jump up to other points in my text, having me type into words already formed!!  It has been a struggle to type this little bit of information.  Tried restarting and zapping PRAM.  Not sure what else to do.  HELP.  Is it on the way out?

MacBook Air :: Glass Trackpad 11" - Bottom Line Air Trackpad Seems More Polished

Dec 21, 2010

I have an late 08 unibody Mbp and a 11 mba, I have noticed the glass trackpad on the air is much closer to the glass on an iphone in the way your finger reacts to it... the least bit of moisture and your finger doesn't glide as easily. On the pro it seems to have more of a coating to allow for smoother use under these normal conditions (humidity). Has anyone else noticed this? bottom line the air trackpad almost seems more polished.

MacBook :: Disable MB Trackpad Button But Not The Whole Trackpad?

Apr 8, 2009

My MB's trackpad button is spoilt, I think there's something wrong with the spring which makes it unclickable and sometimes remains pressed.

Is there anyway to disable only the trackpad button but not the whole trackpad? Tapping still works, but the MB mistakens it as dragging sometimes because the button is stuck as a pressed button.

MacBook Pro :: Trackpad Making Squeaking Sound / Sound Comes When I Depress Trackpad

Jan 13, 2009

Every time I depress my trackpad (the one built into my MBP 15" mid 2009) It is doing a slight squeak...Now I'm meticulous about how well I keep my beloved MBP... but I do use it everyday for many things (Including design, word processing, accounts, pwning the microsoft network at my office)

But I am guessing that these things are built to last... and shouldn't have an effect on how much I have used it right... Should I take it to Apple and let them have a look at it is there a quick thing that I can do to mend it? Or should I just get over it and accept it as quirk of it's character?

MacBook Pro :: Are Trackpad Covers Ever Useful?

Sep 11, 2010

I absolutely HATE trackpad oil/wear. I have used many pre-unibody MacBook Pro's (and other laptop models) that have worn trackpads that make tracking VERY hard. But these new trackpads are apparently wear resistant.

I have a Moshi cover on the trackpad, but I'm wondering if its even useful. Since the unibody systems have been out for a long time, can anyone report back on trackpad wear. Are the glass trackpads really as good as Apple claims, and thus no wear? I have had a unibody system for a year but it has always had a trackpad cover, and if possible I would like to do away with it as it makes tap-clicking a bit hard.

MacBook Pro :: Sometimes Trackpad Will Not Click

Sep 16, 2010

Basically, the trackpad works just fine most of the time. However, sometimes (often enough to be aggravating), it will not click. A typical scenario is this: I'll have a web browser or something open and I will want to close the window. So I go to click the red button. The cursor is over the red button, and the button turns to an x, notifying that I am in the right spot. I will click the trackpad, and it will make the click sound, and nothing will happen. I'll try clicking several more times and nothing. The click just won't register no matter how many times I click. What I will have to do to make it work is stop clicking and take my hand off the trackpad for like 5-6 seconds, then click, and it will work. I do not have tap to click on. This is a 15" MBP 2.4ghz i5.

MacBook Air :: Actually Got A Glass Trackpad?

Nov 7, 2008

I was reading and old review of the macbook air on apple insider and at the last page of the 5page review they have high quality pictures showing off the air at different angles. Some of them are showing the trackpad and u can clearly see what looks to be a glass coating, much in the same way as the new macbook and pro has.Knowing that the air was the first computer that got the "brick" enclosure without apple telling us about it untill recently. Maby they wanted to save this little cool atribute also?

MacBook :: Noise When Using Trackpad

Jun 9, 2009

awhile ago I posted about a high pitched noise that I thought was cpu whine, well Here I am, about 3 Months after it had initially started, It did stop for awhile and now its back. This time around though, I noticed that it only does it when I use the trackpad, In the time that it had stopped doing it, I had purchased a mighty mouse, and since it started doing it again, about 3 or 4 days ago, I noticed that it only does it when i use the trackpad and not the mouse. If it helps any, it is a bluetooth mouse.

MacBook :: My Trackpad Always Clicking

May 31, 2012

I have an "old" Macbook 13'' (2007) and i'm experiencing a trackpad problem: my mac behaves as if i was always pushing down the trackpad button. In this way i drag what i don't want to drag, i select what i don't want to select, etc., and it's impossible to use my mac at all.I have had this problem before, but it stopped after a few minutes. Now I'm stuck.I have OS 10.6.8, updated firmwares. I just resetted the pram.I suspect it's an hardware problem.Using a mouse won't help since there is no "Ignoring trackpad when mouse is present" option in my preference pan.for my purpouses deactivating the trackpad and using the mouse would be enough.

This is an early 2008 MBP, so I have a button separate from the track pad. For the last several days it has been most of the time clicking twice when I press it. The first one doesnt do anything, the second one actually clicks (that is, if I dont push it all the way down it clicks the first time and doesnt do anything, if i push it harder, it clicks the second time).

MacBook Pro :: 13" Trackpad Not Clicking

Oct 11, 2010

The trackpad works fine for tracking, but the left or right click won't work anymore. It works fine if I use an external mouse though. For the last 5 months I've been using the "tap to click" feature. I believe that is what it's called. It works fine like that. Hopefully I didn't word this too badly. I was wondering if anyone knows what the problem is and how much this would cost to repair it?

MacBook Pro :: Any Possibility To Disable Trackpad?

Oct 14, 2010

Is there any way to disable the trackpad on a Macbook Pro? I ask because my previous Compaq laptop had a physical button to turn off the trackpad. This was actually very useful in preventing inadvertent actions, with certain programs. Maybe it's not that big of a deal for most people, but after having a computer that was able to do this, it just seems like a nice feature to have.

MacBook Air :: Does The Trackpad Have A Loud Click

Oct 22, 2010

For the new MacBook Air owners: how loud is the click on your trackpad?

I have a black MacBook which has the separate button (pre-glass trackpad). It's almost completely silent. On almost every unibody MacBook Pro though, the click is really loud and can sometimes even be heard in the next room.

How is this with the new Airs? Still loud or not really noticeable? I like to click instead of tap, but not if everyone can hear my neurotic clicking all day long
