I got a fairly new macbook 13, the last model before the firewire. I notice something very weird. The screen brightness changes. At first I thought I am imagining or maybe its like LCD's where color and brightness changes from one angle to the other but that is not the case...
If i come closer to the screen it takes a bit then it lowers the brightness, if I go further it does the opposite. If I adjust the screen it happens too, and I notice it happens a lot more if I am sitting in a darker room that a bright room.
I can almost swear the isight it doing some adjusting by its own calculating my distance from the screen. These are LEDs I believe. Any one heard of such a thing? What is this? Sometimes to happens while I am reading an article without moving.

the first image i absolutely cannot see, it is 100% pitch black.. the other bellow it shows up just fine. But the two left/lowest squares on the color table on the very bottom the page both appear the same shade of pitch black.
I can see light but not dark. I tried callibrating and adjusting brightness and contrast.
The brightness goes up when you plug in your MBA, but then over time it just goes up and up. I honestly like my brightness pretty low (rarely more than half, typically at 3-5 notches), but it just keeps on going up and up. I almost never set it above half, but multiple times a day, I notice that it looks pretty high and it's at like 3/4 so I put it it down to about 1/3, but after a while, it's just up again.
Anyone else notice this? What is it, why does it do this? How can I fix it? I don't mind not having auto-brightness (even though I loved it), as long as my screen doesn't keep going up.
So I installed Vista 64 bit on my Macbook Pro (Santa Rosa), I installed most of the drivers I can find, but I cant get the screen brightness buttons to work (F1 and F2)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have dual ACD's. How do I make it so that both screens have the same brightness? If I adjust the brightness in the display settings it adjusts the main screen, but then not the other one. How do I make them the same?
I went to Best Buy yesterday and they just got the new imacs in and had on display side by side. The 21.5 display was not as bright and vibrant as the 27 display. The apple and best buy guys could not tell me why the difference. The settings were checked and found to be the same for both machines. I was going to get the 21.5 but now not so sure. I definitely like the brighter 27 better. Is this normal? Why is the 27 brighter? Has anyone else noticed the difference?

The keyboard letters look reflective bu the keyboard also looked somehow cheaper (which I guess it is truly). Tough to test the usability in the dark in the store, I tried to hover over it with my jacket (must have looked pretty stupid) but it is not a real live test. My six years old MBP OS 10.4.x Tiger all of the sudden the display turned black. I hardly see the content of the desktop only when there is some light on the room, looks like I have reduce the light to the Display. I have tried to reset the PRAM with the opion, ctrl, P, R key combination and it did not work. It boots-up OK, no problem with the HD neither Memory, I have not run any test on it though. I have not had any trouble on my MBP until now and I have to say I have never reinstalled the OS.

The spot is bright if looked from an angle.I brought my Mac to the Apple Care and I just received the verdict: the spot was caused by ME by applying extra pressure to the LCD!. Which is not covered by Apple Care warranty!
That's interesting since I am 100% sure that I didn't harm the screen. The guy even suggested that I forgot my pen on the keyboard and closed the laptop! That's great!
I told the Apple guy to send me back the laptop as it is after he offered a repair for $700 plus tax! But I am determined to go on with this since I love my Mac, I spent a lot of money on it.

Today the screen just goes black.. when i turn the backlight up and down i can see some difference but no picture on screen.
The mac book is still on and music playing.
This was a sudden occurrence. Everything fine one minute, then when I opened the MacBook, there are dark (black!) smudges on several of the words on the menu bar. The first smudge starts at the right edge of the apple and almost totally obliterates the word "safari." There are light, but still black smudges on File, Edit, View and History, and on the airport icon. This has never happened before.

This is happening to both my sister and me on two different macbook pros. When we open up the computer it shows the desktop then goes dark and nothing but a restart will bring everything back. I have checked our settings and it is not related to them. Also, it doesn't happen all the time, just sometimes. I can't find a reason for it.
Both are new and both run Lion's latest updates.
Late Model 2010 Macbook pro, opening screen from closed position allows the screen to turn on as normal, but two seconds later, goes to complete black. Temporary fix includes hitting F1 to lower brightenss (if the screen was at full brightness) or F1 or F2 (if screen was not at full brightness) changing this brightness level brings back screen to full brightness -1. this problem seems to be pretty prevelent and related to the nvidia card ro something simialr. are there any known fixes? will apple acknowlege this. this just started happening to me a week or so ago but i've seen articles are far back as early 2011 with the same symptoms.

My MacBook is from 2007, so it is old and has its problems.When I turned it on one day, it was all normal, and randomly the screen got so dark, it looked like the computer had shut down on me. I knew it was still turned on though because the little light was indicating that it was on and it was still making the cd drive/booting up sounds.
After a while, I noticed that the screen just went very very dim, because I could still slightly see the webpage I was on. Turning up the brightness of the screen did nothing, same with restarting the computer.
Sometimes the screen would come back to the normal brightness, until I would go to do something on the internet and it would go very dark again. It's so unpredictable, I don't even want to deal with it anymore.
I just bought the latest and greatest 15 inch Macbook Pro with Retina Display in mid-2014. Every once in awhile, my screen will go dark. When I hit the touch pad, the cursor will show up and will move, on a completely black background. At that point I panic and start depressing the touch pad, when that doesn't work, I try depressing the on/off key; which does not respond at first, but finally the screen returns to normal.? NOTE: My operating system is OSX 10.9.4.

The new Macbook pro 17" seems to have a very dark display. I was in two Apple stores in, one in NYC and the other in Whiteplains and both stores had the new machines displayed. The screens were substantially darker than the 15.4" LED version. The preferences did not seem to help because the machines did not provide a selection between power save and high performance. Does anybody know anything about this, or should I just assume mine will be delivered with a dark screen? The screens were glossy in both stores, NOT anti-glare.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have an MBP about 2 yrs. old. This morning when booting up, the computer made the chime sound and appeared to turn on but the screen stayed completely dark. I tilted it around and tried to see if the backlight was just dead, but there appears to be absolutely nothing on the screen. Furthermore, the little light that normally pulses while the computer is sleeping is on, though not pulsing, anyone know what's going on?
View 4 Replies View RelatedKnocked over a glass of water in the dark and a small puddle seeped under my MacBook pro - I quickly covered it I'm a towel and cleaned it up, it was barely wet at all, but when I tried to start it up the screen was blank. I blowdried it and tried again but still the screen is blank - when I boot it up the White light on the front turn on, the computer songs eerily quiet, the light goes off, then comes back on again, stays on and although the computer sounds like it's whirring it's still completely blank.
View 24 Replies View RelatedIt's only an 8 month old mid 2009 uMBP (2.26ghz, 4GB, 500GB). I was using the Disk Utility when it asked me to insert my MAC OS X Install disc and press "c" during start up and repair it. Every time I insert the disc and press "c" my screen goes completely dark. I thought it could have been a problem with the sensor so I flashed a light into it but it didn't work. I even tried putting it directly towards the sun light and still it doesn't work.

Images and video are displayed very darkly, often loosing a lot of detail and maing the image un-seeable. I have tried fiddling with the gamma settings and all other settings that I can find on the control pannel, but so far I have had no luck.

On any other monitor, the bulb appears bright and white and the ball bearing is visible. On my monitor the bulb is very dark, most of the fragments are invisible and the ball bearing is just a small crescent of light.
While I was watching a TV show. Message in several languages said I needed to hold down power button and restart my computer.When I did and the light grey screen appeared, It started emitting a series of thee loud beeps. A small light on the front edge blinked along with the beeps. So I pressed the power button and my MBP immediately shut back down.

So I've got my MBP that I've had for about 4 months, the thing is. It just recently started to have screen flickering issues. I'll be sitting doing w/e as usual and all of a sudden the display goes dark, almost black, for a second, then comes back up again. I have yet to find any trend in when this is happening, but it is definitely happening on battery as well as plugged in, but it seems to be getting worse.any one have any idea what this could be, something I can fix on my own, or should I take it in?
