MacBook :: Screen Goes Dark And Freezes And Makes Restart
Sep 8, 2010While surfing the internet the screen goes dark and wont let me do anything but turn off. (see picture)
Anyone else had this issue? not the first time this has happened!

Final Cut Pro X :: View Screen Makes Footage Very Dark
Jun 27, 2014editing with FCPX. I imported the footage through Image Capture like I did when using iMovie. I then imported the footage from my desktop into FCP. When it's just showing the thumbnails, it looks bright, like it did on camera. But when I scrub through it, or play the video, it appears very dark. Almost like it's with a filter. I tried to mess around with the buttons near the view screen, but they didn't do anything. Is this a settings problem or a FCP problem, and how do I fix it?

Apr 14, 2012So I have a MacBook circa 2007, running Lion (10.7.3). Over the past day or so it has develeoped a problem where upon opening it, the screen will come on for a moment, then go dark. Nothing will respond - it's unclear whether it's completely off or it's like the brightness is turned all the way down and I can't turn it back up. I have to force shut down with the power button, then turn it back on again. Typically once I log in nothing will load, so I have to force shutdown and start up again, at which point I'll get a dialog saying "You shut down your computer because of a problem. Would you like to reopen applications," or something to that effect. I choose no, and everything is back to normal (at least until I take a chance with closing it and opening it back up again).

Jun 26, 2010Yesterday I was working away at it when suddenly the screen freaked out, there was blocks of color everywhere and the mouse was acting strange (jerky, up was down, down was up etc etc) I had to hold down power to repair it. When it started loading it froze the little circle in the middle stopped spinning and I had to restart it. Then the same thing happened again froze. So I started it in safe mode then restarted again. This time everything was back to normal. But today again I was just using the computer when everything went all glitchy again and same thing, this time when I went in safe mode the screen darkened and a box in the middle said something was wrong and to restart my computer.

Jan 2, 2010I got my IMac 3 years ago just recently started running slower in the past couple months, nothing too bad though. However just yesterday it became unbearable to use. 10 min to start up, once it was on took forever to open up any files etc. So I did some research online and I decided my best option was to reinstall the OS with my startup disk. I did that and erased all my harddrive (nothing important on it.) After doing that it ran great like brand new. Today I turn it on, it continues to work great for a few hours then it freezes in me. I held down the power button to restart. Turned back on and it was stuck on the white apple startup screen. After 15 min I decided to power it off and let it rest a while. After resting it still won't start up.

Aug 25, 2014Since the last itunes update (May be a co incidence) , my 27" Mac keeps crashing with a white screen and flickering  It then wont restart most times, even when using boot up options such as option, Cmd P+R. even removing power!waiting and restarting etc on most restarts wont work its a white screen.

Everytime I try to turn on the MacBook, the blue screen appears for a second and then everything gets dark (but I can see that the computer turned on normally, it's just the screen that gets almost black, without light). Sometimes only the right side of the screen is blue and then gets dark just like the left one. I was looking for the problem and I perceived that the left side seems to be loose and I can't fix it. What should I do?

Aug 28, 2010I have a late 2006 Macbook, and my dad has an early 2009 Macbook. I was comparing the two today and noticed that there was a significant difference between their LCDs. My dad's Macbook has a lighter, more normal display. While mine has a yellow tint to it and is darker. Both computers were on the same display profiles and both had the same brightness set.
Is this just how LCDs are as they age? Or is mine really not supposed to have that yellow tint? The new Macbook is on the right in the pic.
Mac Pro :: Attempted Restart - Makes Ticking Sound - Is This Normal
Sep 2, 2008So my mac was acting up, no sound from iChat and Spaces wouldn't function properly.
So i restart, the Mac pro gets o the normal point of turning off the display before the spin up sound, but instead this ticking sound occurred. This had a repetition at about ever 3 seconds.
So i quickly held the power button and shut down the Mac pro. I powered up the system and all seemed fine.
Has anyone ever ran across this before?
MacBook Air :: Computer Freezes And Need To Restart
Jun 13, 2008What does this error message mean? I have had my MBA since Feb, and never had this error. I get the error, in several languages, and the computer is frozen at that point. A restart gets me back up and running until it happens again, usually within; an hour or so. Always while using Safari.

Dec 5, 2014Before two weeks I have done a clean install of OS Yosemite in my MBP retina.Â
But unfortunately I have noticed some bugs such as:Â
- When I press Shut down the dock stays the half freezed, not completely disappeared and then the system shut down.
- Its a grey screen when I switch on from sleep
- It has completely freezed 3 times and restarts itself
- The wifi signal has been lost 2 times, in my home using my router wlan.
- The continuity doesn't work with my iPhone 6+.
- I don't know but I think that Mavericks were faster..Â
I have done PRAM and SMC reset but nothing.Â

Jun 20, 2012My MacBook Pro early 2011 13" freezes, requiring a hard restart when the CPU temperature stays in the 195 F (as measured by iStat nano) range for more than a few minutes. The fans run appropriately. I am running 16 GB of RAM, most of which is not being used during these 'hot' episodes (according to Activity Monitor). Typically they happen when Mail is trying to connect to iCloud and can't seem to do it. Then the spinning beach ball. Can't force quit or restart from the Apple menu. I'm using 10.7.4 on a dual core i7, 2.7 GHz unit.

Feb 22, 2010i have a mbp from 2007 and it seems my screen has grown quite dark! anyone else have this problem? what does one do?
It also has some "splotches" a patch or two of discoloring.

May 20, 2010I have a base 15" mbp 2010 model. I wanted to restart my laptop several times and this happened about twice now. I had to force shutdown by holding the power button, but this can't be healthy for it. Here's what happens, I go to apple>restart and then my desktop icons and taskbar, finder bar goes all away so that only my desktop background is showing, and it stays there. I can still move the cursor with my trackpad but me being new to macs, i don't know any keyboard shortcuts to bring up the activity monitor and stuff. Is something wrong with my macbook pro?

I read that another option was to restart the computer and hold down command, option, o, and f at the same time to open disk firmware to eject it. instead of actually working, my computer froze at the rstart screen, and i have no idea what to do - and i am unable to insert a disc.

Apr 22, 2012Late Model 2010 Macbook pro, opening screen from closed position allows the screen to turn on as normal, but two seconds later, goes to complete black. Temporary fix includes hitting F1 to lower brightenss (if the screen was at full brightness) or F1 or F2 (if screen was not at full brightness) changing this brightness level brings back screen to full brightness -1. this problem seems to be pretty prevelent and related to the nvidia card ro something simialr. are there any known fixes? will apple acknowlege this. this just started happening to me a week or so ago but i've seen articles are far back as early 2011 with the same symptoms.

Sep 9, 2014My MacBook is from 2007, so it is old and has its problems.When I turned it on one day, it was all normal, and randomly the screen got so dark, it looked like the computer had shut down on me. I knew it was still turned on though because the little light was indicating that it was on and it was still making the cd drive/booting up sounds.Â
After a while, I noticed that the screen just went very very dim, because I could still slightly see the webpage I was on. Turning up the brightness of the screen did nothing, same with restarting the computer.
Sometimes the screen would come back to the normal brightness, until I would go to do something on the internet and it would go very dark again. It's so unpredictable, I don't even want to deal with it anymore.Â

Aug 26, 2014I just bought the latest and greatest 15 inch Macbook Pro with Retina Display in mid-2014. Every once in awhile, my screen will go dark. When I hit the touch pad, the cursor will show up and will move, on a completely black background. At that point I panic and start depressing the touch pad, when that doesn't work, I try depressing the on/off key; which does not respond at first, but finally the screen returns to normal.? NOTE: My operating system is OSX 10.9.4.

Apr 8, 2009I have a macbook pro, bought it May last year(2008). I don't know much about computers, but I loved the transition between pc and mac, had no trouble with it, loved to work with it, until now. I had noticed it became slower like 3 weeks ago, and a week ago, it started to freeze up on me followed by a message that said please restart your computer by pressing the power button and the screen becomes dark. When I try to restart it again, it takes a while because it shuts down again and again, until the 10th time it works. The store told me to clean intall, which I did yesterday, it seemed to have worked, it was faster for sure, but today it happened again, 3 times! Has this happened to anyone? Does somebody know what to do?

Feb 25, 2009The new Macbook pro 17" seems to have a very dark display. I was in two Apple stores in, one in NYC and the other in Whiteplains and both stores had the new machines displayed. The screens were substantially darker than the 15.4" LED version. The preferences did not seem to help because the machines did not provide a selection between power save and high performance. Does anybody know anything about this, or should I just assume mine will be delivered with a dark screen? The screens were glossy in both stores, NOT anti-glare.

Jul 20, 2009I have an MBP about 2 yrs. old. This morning when booting up, the computer made the chime sound and appeared to turn on but the screen stayed completely dark. I tilted it around and tried to see if the backlight was just dead, but there appears to be absolutely nothing on the screen. Furthermore, the little light that normally pulses while the computer is sleeping is on, though not pulsing, anyone know what's going on?
