i just bought a case for my harddisk and plugged it in my mac but i dont see it in the finder nor in the disk utility, the harddisk used to be in my old windows laptop and would like to use it as an external one on my mac. it works perfecty via usb ond windows but it doenst show up on mac!
in the finder the checkboxes are checked and i tried tuning off the laptop unplugging and replugging but no result ..
I'm using macbook1,1. Previously I used both mac osx,tiger and win xp operating systems. yesterday, I tried to remove winxp. I dont know what happened suddenly my laptop stopped recognising internal hard disk. When i'm starting laptop its showing white screen, nothing else. When I keep mac OS dvd its processing but not showing hard disk. I searched in disk utilities there also not able see any hard disk detection. I'm not able to understand what happened.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm retrying to install windows on my mac. It's the second time I'm trying, but it has somehow become way harder. The first time I installed Windows, everything worked perfectly, untill I noticed that SP2 wasn't installed, and I couldn't install it on my windows, somehow.
Now I'm trying it with a different version of XP (Pro), but Bootcamp is giving issues. I haven't deleted the old volume/partition (don't know the difference) of windows yet, as it is installed on my startup disk and Disk Utility won't delete it .
I've been having problems with my backup. The last few times I've tried to backup my computer it's saying that the backup is too large for the backup volume. The reason for this is not because the disk is too small but because it's not recognising that there is already backup-ed info on that disk and not integrating with that. Up to about two weeks ago my computer was backing up grand and in the space of two days it stopped allowing me to back up due to this error. I don't want to delete the old stuff as it kind of defeats the purpose of the backup to do so.

Notes. Failed HDD ASD Test. A new hard drive was installed in September of 2011 after the previous hard drive failed. Having worked well until now the system seems to give the same problems as it had previously. I am wondering if this is a compatibility issue as others have pointed out.
I have been told by the technician my only option is to replace the entire hard drive again for the second time with a new one. However to my understanding a ASD test is very specific and this my not be necessary? Further I am attempting a final backup just in case. I don't have to take it in where I could just back it up myself without the system shutting down.

I have a 2010 Mac Book Pro that I just downloaded the new OS X Lion for the upgrades ext... I haven't had any other problems except that before I downloaded the Lion my Mac would recognize my external hard drive (WD passport). And now it doesn't, I even go to the finder and it doesn't even show up under "computer" to make sure there isn't anything wrong with my external hard drive I plugged it into another mac that doesn't have Lion and it would work. My external drive has everything 1TG of everything.

I have a G4 PowerMac with two 80 GB hard drives. When I boot up the computer, it boots up from the primary drive and runs fine. At this time, both my primary and my secondary drives are accessible and visible.However, when I boot up the computer using either the Tiger or Leopard DVDs and then run Disk Utility, it only recognizes my secondary hard drive and not my main hard drive.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just installed Windows XP on my MacBook Pro yesterday. It's a 15 inch with a 2.80 Ghz Core 2 Duo processor so I can't see any reason why it should be slow. The weirdest part about it being slow is that my other computer, a 4 year old MacBook, with a 2.16 Ghz, runs it unbelievably easy. If I try to move around a window on the old MacBook it moves smoothly, very easily. If I try to move a window on my MBP it has unbelievable lag and refreshes every millimeter that I move and moves really really slowly. Any reason why it's THAT slow on the MBP and fast on the MB?And then the other problem, the Wifi. Windows appears to not be recognizing my wireless card and I've read some other stuff where you need to find the drivers for your card and then go install those on the Windows side, and I thought I did that. My card is a Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0

View -1 Replies View RelatedI have a Seagate 1 TB Backup Plus Drive which was working perfectly fine until I plugged it into a USB hub. It detected it while in the hub and I was able to get files off of it, but when I ejected it from the hub and put it back into the USB slot on the computer it was not detected by finder. It shows up in the disk utility and I clicked verify and repair and it says:
Verify and Repair volume “Seagate Backup Plus Drive”
Checking file system
Volume repair complete.
Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.
Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.
Is there any way to get this to work properly again? Or if not is there a way for me to recover my files on the external hard drive?

I have a 12" PowerBook G4 that stopped recognizing the factory hard-drive some time back. I have a G4 iBook so I was not in a hurry to look into it. I removed the old hard-drive and replaced it with a Scorpio drive of 60GB. It still fails to recognize the hard-drive. If I run the Apple Care diagnostics it hangs at the start-up while 'scanning for volume' or something like that. t hangs for 15-minutes or more and never moves past. The CD-RW drive is fine as I can boot the machine into the OSX installer up to the point where it asks for a destination...at which point nothing is selectable. It is a 867MHz G4 PowerBook with 768MG RAM. This is a fantastic notebook and I would hate to see it remain in this state. Does anyone have any ideas? I replaced the IDE cable and hard-drive with all new Mac OEM parts (except the HD) and reset the PRAM or PMU or what ever it is called...with no results.

I recently check my 150 GB hard drive and noticed that I only have 10 GTB left. While going through my files to check what I don't need or want, I noticed that I have a folder called Previous Systems. Inside this folder are two other folders with dates for names. Each folder has approximately 20 GB for a total of 40 GB. Can I simply toss this folder? It does not seem to do anything. The folder must have been created from a backup some time ago. I don't recall doing that.

Next year when snow leopard will be released I was thinking to upgrade my poor 60gb hard disk to something more probably to a 320 one, but I got one problem I lost my recovery disk and actually I don't really need it as you know Tiger is very stable.

I have a presonus firebox and want to use it on my mac pro when I'm running windows XP, but windows doesnt seem to recognize it. I downloaded drivers, followed the instructions to disconnect and reconnect the device, looked through control panel, etc....
Presonus says that sometimes they dont like bootcamp, but I dont understand why that would be. Anything I can do to try and get it working?

I've partitioned my 8GB USB memory stick using Disk Utility in Snow Leopard and gave it the format of MS-DOS(FAT). It completes successfully, and works within Snow Leopard however when I plug it into Windows, it says its unformatted and needs formatting. It only gives me the option to format 200MB!!! What is going on? I know formatting more than 2GB in FAT is impossible or something but I did it with my external HDD and it works perfectly in Windows.
