MacBook Pro :: Mid 2010 Won't Boot, Can't Find Hhd
Feb 7, 2012
I got a 13' Macbook pro, after a kernal panic, the computer stuck at the same page: u need to restart your computer. Later i run restore disk, but is seems cant find my hhd. Most likely i need to chaneg a new HHD?? I tried to search on apple website how much is the HHD but cant find any info. Is there one had same problem and got their HHD changed? Should I fix it thru apple or should i get the HHD myself and find someone to put it in for me? I am out of warranty.

My mid 2010 iMac i7 will not boot past the apple logo? I'm running 10.7.3. I have tried restoring from TM backup from recovery mode (worked the last time this happened) however upon completion it returns to the recovery screen? I made a disk of Lion when I downloaded the first time (followed same instructions sourced from numerous websites) which does not seem to work when i set to start up from this disk, just gets to the grey screen and flicks between the apple logo, a folder icon with a question mark and the circle with line through? Now I can't eject the disk either, a message appears that system can't eject and to make sure all applications are closed? Not sure how to go about closing these applications without being able to start the system? When I tried booting from the Macintosh HD I got a message that the boot cache partition was faulty? I have ran disk permissions etc all ok. Â

I recently purchased the 13'' mbp (well my parents bought it for me because i was qualified for commercial pilot training in my country) and well besides the rough edges that hurt your wrists, I love my macbook pro, I love the interface, I love the design + the holy track pad (!) but as soon as I install boot camp things turned ugly, real uglyAfter struggling to install Windows 7 Home Premimum 64 bit's Drivers (It took me a long time to set windows to regconize that I need 64 bit drivers and not 32's) I grow more and more frustrated with the supplied drivers, it's horrible, the windows would frequently freeze and requires a shutdown. (I presume there's a problem with the NVDIA 320M driver). Another problem is that for some odd reason there's no fan running at all during windows operation! And yes I'm aware of the smrcfan restart thingy to transfer the setting over to windows but that is just so incovenient (sorry if i'm being a wuss).
Now I would love to hear feedback from experienced users how on earth can I find a subsitute graphics driver to fix this frequent freezing + a way to start the fans.

my Macbook Pro doesn't boot after updating the EFI, I just updated and restarted as it says in the description of the update and then it does not boot, making 4 short beeps and then 4 longer, I don't know what's happening. There was no problem during the update (no problem with electricity or similar)

It seems to stuck in Clamshell mode? External Display, Keyboard, Power -> MBP working!
But without it's just sleeping. Internal display isn't detected then. Have installied 10.7.3 Lion + All EFI Upgrades.
Zapping PRAM and SMC had no effect. Also deleting the power management prefs using single user mode had no effect. I am able to wake it up for short without external display - but 5-10 secs later it is sleeping again.Â

I orderd 8 gig's of RAM from Apple. Installed it per the instructions. Now, the MBP with Lion boots up and runs fine from off, the activity monitor acknowledges the 8 gig's. Runs well.
When I close it and then open it back up, the screen stays black and the sleep light goes out. Also, sometimes it won't boot, the light blinks and it makes a beeping noise over and over until I do a hard shutdown. Also, a couple of times, I was using it and the graphics went totally screwy and were blinking and whatnot until I did a hard shut down. Can I return the memory (a shame because it is better with it when it works). I've got my MSDN W7x64 Ultimate DVD burned, and when I reboot to install it (after using Boot Camp Assistant) it always hangs and never brings up the graphical installation screen. I tried Safe Mode, only to see that it stops after disk.sys loads. Anyone else having this issue or found a way to fix it?

I got a macbook pro base model last year (2009 model) and my girlfriend just got a macbook base model last weekend (2010 model)Seems as though her macbook has better specs than mine... I'm also considering upgrading to Snow Leopard but don't really see the point. That inertia scroll thing hers does is pretty cool... other than that everything is pretty much the same to the naked eye after a few hours of use.

I do not really need Ultra settings, but I would like to go for good/high with 45+ fps.nother question. I read about GPU overclocking... Is it only available when you use Boot Camp?

Anyone else had trouble option booting with a 2010 Mac Pro? Can't get to startup manager. All I get is a blank screen. Apple says it must be a hardware problem after having me test everything else. Keyboard checks out. Can boot from install disk holding C key, but cannot change startup disk with prefs to install dvd or to a cloned drive. Have reinstalled SL 10.6.4 from install disk. Zapped pram and unplugged power, held power button 5-10 secs. and plugged in again - to reset computer according to apple tech.

There were many reports of not being able to install any Windows OS using bootcamp with latest MBP 13" (2010, nVidia 320M) and Intel X-25M SSD combination (installer just wouldn't recognize the drive at all).I haven't heard about this problem for a while. But I'm still not sure about whether it's safe to go with X-25M or not.

Its windows 7 prop 64bit and it wont boot into windows at all, the display will show something if I try to boot in safe mode but it only gets as far as setting up for first use and then pops up an error saying you cant do that in safe mode

I have an iPad 32GB WiFi and a MacBook Pro as well so I was trying very hard to justify myself in getting an 11" MBA but ending up talking myself out of it. The 13" MBP is perfect for my uses. It's already lightweight and portable as it is. After playing with the 11" in the Apple store, I was impressed on how light it was. This no doubt blows away any netbook or any notebook in it's weight class in terms of size and performance. However, the MBP's battery life, hard drive space, and processing power OUTWEIGHS the reasons of dumping my 13" MBP for the Air. Also, I have it hooked up to a 21.5 Inch HP monitor at home and it's good enough to use as a main computer at home, and light enough to take on the road.
If I needed to lookup something quickly in bed or around the house, that's where the iPad comes in. If I needed to send a quick e-mail, my HTC Evo is already great at doing that. If I didn't have a 13" MBP or even the iPad, I would have most likely went ahead and purchased the MBA. Just now at this point, spending another $1000+ or getting rid of my MBP doesn't make much sense... yet.

I've been lurking MacRumors ever since 'the wait for Arrandale' began and finally decided to sign up now so I could post this thread. I've been a Windows user for a long time now and I have a Win7 rig at home. However, I'll be going to uni later this year so I need a good portable notebook that's suitable for the common mailing 'n surfing, but also for doing some programming in Eclipse (Java) and PHP work etc. I still have my Win7 box at home for gaming and things that require larger screensize, but for the notebook... I feel really attracted to OSX with a MBP.
It will be my first Mac, but my desktop dualboots with OSX and I love it. So that's why I have decided that my school notebook will be a Mac. This is why I have been closely watching the rumors for the new MBPs and ofcourse I was pretty disappointed when I saw that the 13" model still had a C2D cpu... It's not that I need a beefed up CPU in my notebook (... I have a 3.6 GHz quad at home ), but it feels 'wrong' to buy a MBP 13": even the 2009 MacBook has a C2D, so what will the MB 2010 update bring? Is it really worth the extra money? Anyone with a similar situation?

So earlier after installing a windows 7 ultimate 64 bit RTM copy into bootcamp, things started acting up;
After installing some updates for 7, rebooting, it took about a minute to get the HD icons up to even choose one, and after that it was fine, except then the windows partition eventually just had a blinking cursor in the top right and stayed there.
I went into OSx, removed the 7 partition completely! my HD is one partition for Osx, but when I boot now, it takes yearsssss to just boot to osx, but if I hold option, then I instantly get a Macintosh HD (that's it) and it will go straight away.
What do I need to do? Reinstall SL? Please god no.
Partitions seem to be all messed up, maybe I will re create a windows install, and remove it again. (Xp this time)
Edit, This happened on 2 different MBP's one a 2.8 duo after I put on 7, they both take forever to boot to OSx. (With no BC partition even on)

My Mac Pro will not find it's boot volume. Each time the computer is started, the blinking folder with the question mark is the result. A working install of 10.7 does exist on the machine's primary hard drive. If I were to press the option key on boot, I can select the primary hard drive (after entering the password) and everything boots as normal. I have run TechToolPro on the volume with no detected errors, even after a volume rebuild. A Recovery HD partition is not on the boot volume. Should that matter?Â
I really really do not want to reinstall Mac OS X. I have hundreds of gigabytes of data in question. Any reinstall/reconfig would take days to complete.Â

According to the help file, it's found "in the utilities folder in the applications folder" but it's just not there. I have the newly updated macbook that I bought today, pre-loaded with Leopard. I was under the impression that it's a part of Leopard, and that I don't have to download it.

I need your help please. It all started when I was trying to install Windows XP under Boot Camp on my Macbook Pro (Leopard). I followed the manual and made the partition for Windows (32GB), but when I inserted Windows XP Install CD and had to choose partition to install it on, there was just one that seemed to be my Leopard startup disc (it had some 120GB). I did not know what to do, so I just left the installation process and the notebook restarted. When it loaded, it was trying to boot from the Windows CD so I tried to install it, but same problem appeared -> restart. I tried to load Leopard by holding Option key while loading, but only options for windows and windows cd appeared, no Leopard -> Shut down. While booting, I force-ejected the CD by holding down trackpad button -> blinking underscore on black screen appeared. I shut the MBP down by holding power button and inserted Leopard Install CD. When it loaded, I booted from the CD by holding Option key. This time I was ready to even re-install Leopard just to make it work but when I had to chose the harddisk to install Leopard on, there was none. It seems to me that somehow nobody can see the harddisk and I have no idea what to do with it.
