the krb5kdc suddenly ate up all my HDD, leaving zero kb available. I checked my HDD and found the krb5kdc file taking up to 47 GB in hidden files, just the amount of HDD available I had before the problem started.

I have a process on my iMac (core i7 quad, 16 GB Ram) thats called KRB5KDC. It uses 100 % of my processor, and 2,8GB Ram, All the time - Even just after i booted up. This makes the computer pretty useless as you can imagine.
After googling and mRoogling around i found out that the process belongs to Kerberos - some sort of network authentication protocol - i dont know anything about that, but it shouldnt use 100 % processor power.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, since applecare couldnt do anything but offer a hardware repair - strange solution for a software problem...

explain why my MBP is running very hot under OS X. It started about 2 days ago, to the point where in just a few minutes the laptop is running very hot and fans going probably at 100% (but I didn't test this). I'm using windows under bootcamp now and that is fine, so I don't think it's the hardware. I have checked the ram use and thing seems normal - the highest being safari around 250mb with many tabs open. Would it be something using the CPU to make it heat up? Even with nothing open it heats up in a few minutes. This was before the most recent update, and after the recent update. It's a 13" 2010 MBP.

My MacBook suddenly shuts down in the middle of my work. Shut down as in a sudden shut down, as if the battery was removed. There is no shutdown process, the whole screen just goes black. I've realized that this happens more recently when watching youtube videos, playing flash games etc.
Example : Computer dies in 10 minutes when watching videos/playing games. Computer dies in a few hours or NEVER when just typing, surfing.
It doesn't seem to be a battery problem. I've removed the battery and had my Macbook run on the Charger before, and it still died on me...

My screen works fine for the most part, but sometimes it goes really dim. When I move the lid, it goes back to normal. What is causing it to all of a sudden go dim? I have Apple Care for my Mac, but I've installed a new hard drive and new RAM; does that void my warranty?

I've suddenly come across a problem, which I'm not sure I understand at all... My Macbook Pro has stopped being able to read PC burnt data CDs. CDs that have previously worked. I get the "The disk inserted was not readable by this computer" error. They work in my old PC laptop, BUT, I booted up in Boot Camp on my Macbook Pro and it only saw the CD as a blank CD, so I'm guessing it's not an OS problem.
Just to make things even more clear, PC burnt audio CDs STILL work, and Mac burnt data/audio CDs still work. So it also doesn't seem to be a problem with the optical drive itself.
Let me start by saying that I know very little about how computers/networks, etc work.
I've had my macbook for a couple years (I don't even know how to find out what year it was made, I'd guess 2008). It just suddenly stopped allowing me to connect to the internet wirelessly at my house. I brought it to my college campus, where I've been able to connect all semester, and I cannot connect there either. I'm receiving wireless signals in both places with my phone.
When I go to system pref - network....and highlight airport, it says it's not connected even though i have all my bars at the top right of the screen.
It says "Airport does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the Internet."
I should point out that my brother's macbook pro still works fine wirelessly in our house.
well was using my macbook and he display suddenly went black on me. I charged and restarted with no luck I usually get a quick flash and then it continues to start up. now if I look closely the system is working properly becasue i can see my log in screen very faintly in the back ground. I'm posting this on behalf of my father. He has a 2008 white macbook which has recently started running quite hot (160-180+F), even at idle. It has the latest version of 10.7 installed. He has an external HD with his previous copy of 10.6 and it exhibits the same behavior when booted from that system.He bugs me whenever he has computer problems told me that his MacBook had started randomly shutting down with no warning. I had similar trouble with a MacBook Pro and it turned out to be a faulty battery, so we got him a new battery, figuring it couldn't hurt to have a fresh one with a 4 year old computer. it didn't solve the problem at all.
Later he said that he noticed the computer felt hot, so he decided to run a small fan blowing across the computer while it was on his desk, and that stopped the random shutdowns. So I thought, OK, this is an overheating issue. Maybe the fan isn't working properly, it's full of dust, something is hogging the CPU all the time, etc.
The next time I was at his place I had him install fan control and a temperature meter. We noticed right away that the thing was running really hot. It was at 160-180F while at idle. He had menu meters installed, after a reboot we could see that the processor was sitting at 2-5% load. Not only did the sensors report the high temperate, but I could feel that the bottom of the case was very hot.We decided to open up the case and see if there was dust clogging things up, etc. There was some, but nothing clogging vents or anything. We blew it out nice and clean with compressed air anyway and put it back together. I even turned it on while we had it open so I cold see that the fan was actually spinning, and it was.
My MacBook suddenly turned off. There was a click sound and then nothing. I have tried to restart it but nothing happens. No sound no lights. It is plugged in and the power cord shows green. I have not damaged it in any way.....

I bought my Macbook Pro late summer 2011. Suddenly just a week ago it slowed down significantly, so I thought maybe if it was an update that had gone crazy or something so I ran an update check and installed what was missing and rebooted, and it went stuck on gray the apple loading screen. Then I booted from the Recovery HD and ran the disk check, found out that the Mac partition was broken and couldn't be repaired. I copied everything from to my external disk and formatted the partition and reinstalled Lion. Still runs slow and freezes though and I can't figure what to do.
It's something with the hardware, maybe overheat or something. Can't seem to run Hardware Test either, goes straight to the loading screen when I hold the 'D' button.

I bought my 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 machine back in May of 2010 and have been very happy with it until I put OSX Lion 10.7. Now I regularly get Black Screens Of Death when the screen just goes black and I have to restart the machine. With the amount of bug traces my machine has been generating to Apple I would have thought this issue should have been sorted out. What did they do in Lion which is so different from Leopard and why haven't they sorted this out? If this continues then unfortunately I may have to consider moving back to Windows as I can't work like this. I've got GfxCardStatus running with Integrated Graphics but this means I can use my Apple Cinema Display.Â

I have a MacBook Pro- purchased in September of 2011- that has now stopped recognizing my WD Passport. The Passport works fine with my wife's PC laptop, but is not showing up on the MBP. The light on the Passport flashes, but that's all. It does not show up in the Finder and Time Machine is unable to perform backup.
I have first restarted the MBP and then shut down and then turned the MBP back on. Neither time did anything. I have an older SimpleTech external that it now recognizes again- after appearing not to. After multiple attempts and using both USB ports, sadly have gotten nowhere.

I was working when both the charger light and computer went off suddenly. I did the same click sound it does when holding the power button to force it to shut off. Since then its dead to the point that when I connect the charger the little orange/green light doesn't turn on nor does the computer nor does the battery meter on the side of the computer. A couple of weeks ago, I suddenly started seeing pop ups in both my Chrome and Safari browsers. I have pop up ads turned off in both, went so far as to uninstall Chrome and the .dmg for it several times, cleared all histories, cookies, extensions, etc, etc. What's even more maddening is that it happens while just using plain old Google to do a search. I have cleaned out all old pics and documents via Finder that I no longer needed. I have nothing new that has caused this change. So what the heck is happening here??? I have been trying to track this isue down and can't find a solution. Firefox seems to be the only thing unaffected at this point, but I migrated away from Mozilla a long time ago. I've tried searching Google's forums, but the fact it's happening in Safari suggests it's something within my Mac. I've run a virus scan (semi-redundant, I'm aware, but I'm grasping) and all is clear. Do I try a malware search now?

View 2 Replies View RelatedOut of the clear blue sky, VLC just stopped playing MKV files. I was watching a .MKV file just 15 minutes prior. I'll click on a MKV file and it'll just hang... or I'll open up VLC and open the .MKV file from there and it'll hang. Have the most recent version.
I went to preferences and changed the preload so it wouldn't load all the videos in the directory and it still doesn't work.
I have a MacBook Pro from 2009. The airport has abruptly stopped finding any networks. I have had problems in the last few months (just after I moved to the states from Canada). My roommates' laptops could pick up the network, and mine kept dropping out. I went home for the holidays, and it worked fine (despite the router being even further from my computer).
when i returned, i had a few days of very spotty internet (much higher number of drop outs) and now it won't detect a single network. My warranty is up so i'm nervous that this is something internal they have to replace, but I"m hoping there is some way for me to check. I just tried to connect at work, and it detects nothing here too. so it is NOT interference.
sidenote: My graphics card is malfunctioning (which is under extended warranty for this model), and I am taking that to get replaced today... is there any crazy conceivable way that the two issues could be connected???
bottom line: what can I do now to rule out (or in) the possibility of hardware malfunction causing my airport to stop detecting networks?
