I am trying to go to the website, read.amazon.com, but the screen is blank and there is a small lock symbol on the top righthand corner of the window. What does that mean and how do I get the page to start up?

I was wondering if you guys knew a good software for Mac to convert PDF and Word to Kindle 2 format.
I have used Stanza but it didn't work well, the text was all messed up when transfered to my Kindle.
When I try to download on Safari using Adobe Reader I get a blank, black page. I've re-downloaded Adobe Reader, but I get the same results.

I use an external hard drive for Time Machine backups and to store some larger video files in a folder called Videos. The Videos folder on the external drive is now locked and I can't unlock it. I go to Get Info, hit the lock icon and enter my password, but the "Locked" checkbox is greyed out in the General section. In the Sharing and Permissions section, instead of displaying my name, it says "Fetching . . ." and I can't change the Privilege from "Write Only".

I can't seem to edit any pictures with Preview anymore since I upgraded to Lion. Every time I try to save an image after resizing or whatever, it says the file is locked. If I check the info of the file the "locked" checkmark is unchecked. And I have all the permissions to the file. Tried everything, switched the "lock after 2 weeks" thing of in Time Machine (even though tha would probably not help: images I took today are still "locked" in Preview), tried copying them and then saving them, and tried to lock them and then unlock them, but I can't seem to edit and save them.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI picked up a 13" MBA, and am starting to wonder if I should sell my iPad and pick up a 11" MBA, as well, since I pretty much am only using the iPad to read (Kindle App), surf, and play the occasional game. I can do without the games until the OSX App Store gets going, but I am thinking having a full OS on the 11" MBA makes more sense than an iPad.
View 19 Replies View RelatedI'm running osx 10.6.4 and Adobe Reader is giving me fits. It doesn't play well. How do I change the default PDF reader from Adobe to Preview or iArchiver? Adobe Reader just grabs hold of the download and won't let go.
Getting a message within photoshop that files cannot be saved as they are locked. I check the same files with 'Get Info' and the locked file box is unchecked. I have changed file permissions on the entire disc so that everyone can read/write but still the same message. Tried terminal command to uncheck flags also to no avail. I can do save as but a little frustrating. Is there a workaround to get all my files back onside?
This is a new disc that I may have installed without due care to permissions/ownership when I formatted it.

I just tried NetNewsWire, and Vienna, NNW is nice but Google Reader has a great feature that these both are without.
In GReader, when I mouse over or scroll down it marks that one article as read. No pushing buttons, clicking next, nothing. Just read.
I want to be able to pre-download all of my current unread items, AND the pictures. Gears for GReader does NOT download the pictures. I have a lot of picture only feeds, like lolcats, that I would like to let build up for a week and then on my long plane ride home, check out.
In NNW I can smash the space bar and get this accomplished, but I'd rather just scroll through, or at least have the option to.
I don't really like the look of Vienna, it's too unpolished, NNW is a tad better and has better options for like the prefs.
It would also be interesting to be able to give specific instructions, or adjust certain settings on a per-feed basis. Such as filter out cartain keywords (Without using a service such as feedrinse).
I hat vienna because once I click on a feed, it marks everything as read. That's bad for me as I sometimes just open a mega feed and read one or two items. I have maby 20 or 30 feeds, but usually get 2-300 new items a day. Most are junk like Joystick, but I like to sit down and go through the important ones while im taking a break or eating lol.
I know you can't but it'd be interesting to allow some feeds to auto queue an embedded movie, let me view it offline (or off my VPN.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have a 2010 15" MBP 2.66 ghz i7, with 4 GB ddr3 1066 ram, 500 GB 7200 rpm HDD, and the nvidia GT 330 M gpu. I tend to get down around 30 MB of ram when i am running Starcraft 2. I do not understand what pages in and pages out means. Before i started SC 2 it was like 50k + pages in and 0 pages out. After running SC 2 for like2 hours i have 150k+ pages in and 100k + pages out.I am pretty sure i just need to add some more ram but i would like to know what these mean so i can better monitor my system.

I got my Kindle 3 today (yes I bought one over the ipad simply due to the price) and Ive spent some time trying to connect it to my imacs airport wi-fi. I have tried Customer service over at Amazon but sadly, no reply as of yet. It seems that the Kindle wont connect to "enterprise or peer-to-peer networks". So everytime, I enable sharing and my network shows up - it either wont accept the password or it tells me that "Kindle does not currently connect to enterprise or peer-to-peer networks"

View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the new Mac OS X client for Amazon's Cloud Drive service. I double-clicked to launch it, then dragged the app icon over to the Applications folder in order to install it.
Now I see an Amazon Cloud Drive icon on my desktop, but clicking it doesn't take me to a signin screen for my Amazon account, as I would expect, but invites me to drag the app icon over to the Applications folder AGAIN. Starting from the Applications folder and trying to launch it from there gives me the same result.
