Aug 6, 2010...now I don't have the same functionality with iTunes. Basically, I can't use iTunes at all anymore as the interface for my music and videos. Once the external drive is mounted, I can navigate through it and play individual songs, but I can't use iTunes to do that. All my previous Playlists show up down the left side of iTunes, but there isn't any music in them.
I downloaded 2 songs yesterday, made a Playlist out of them, and because the path in the Advanced tab of the iTunes Preferences is correct, it automatically added the songs to the external hard drive. I synced my iPod and it was completely erased except for the 2 new songs. Is there a way to use iTunes to navigate my music like I used to when I stored the information on the internal hard drive but keep the information on the external drive? I have a Mac running Snow Leopard and the latest version of iTunes.

Aug 21, 2009I have transferred my itunes music on to my external HD. The music is there and that is fine. I then deleted the old itunes folder from my actual HD. I have now wanted to access the music on the external HD, and have attempted to select the new music file location on the external HD via the itunes/preferences/advanced window,selected the new file path and it will just not show in itunes!

Sep 1, 2010I got my Kindle 3 today (yes I bought one over the ipad simply due to the price) and Ive spent some time trying to connect it to my imacs airport wi-fi. I have tried Customer service over at Amazon but sadly, no reply as of yet. It seems that the Kindle wont connect to "enterprise or peer-to-peer networks". So everytime, I enable sharing and my network shows up - it either wont accept the password or it tells me that "Kindle does not currently connect to enterprise or peer-to-peer networks"

ChangeWave recently conducted a survey of 3,171 consumers the week after Apple announced the iPad, and the results suggest that the forthcoming device is poised to make a huge splash in the e-reader market. "In particular, while a handful of e-Reader manufacturers -- most prominently Amazon -- clearly have a major head start," ChangeWave said, "the survey findings show the iPad is poised to profoundly shake up this market."
Among those who plan to purchase an e-reader in the next 90 days, 40 percent said they will buy the Apple iPad. That's well ahead of the 28 percent who will opt for an Amazon Kindle, 6 percent for the Barnes & Noble Nook and 1 percent for a Sony Reader. That would be a major change for the Kindle, which is currently the far-and-away market leader. The ChangeWave survey found that 68 percent of respondents who already own an e-reader have the Kindle, while just 10 percent have a Sony Reader. Aug 18, 2010I'm new here and about to dip my toe into the Apple pond for the first time. Just placed an order for an i Phone and am preparing my music collection to move at least some of it over to i Tunes for use with the new phone. I currently have it on an external HD in one main folder (CD Collection) and have been using WMP up to now. Stored under that main folder are sub-folders with album titles containing the individual song files in .wav format. I tried to import the files into the i Tunes library by going to FILE and clicking on ADD FOLDER TO LIBRARY. I then selected all the album folders and hit enter. It imported them all into one folder. I have around 450 albums. This is not what I had in mind. I had hoped the folder and file organization would have been maintained. Instead I have thousands of music files in one "album."

Apr 1, 2012I've been doing some reorganizing lately, including updating my file structure from My Music to My Media, with Music, Books etc within it. I did this using the built-in iTunes option (File->Library->Organize Library->Reorganize files in the folder "iTunes Media"). I have both "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" switched on.
When I performed this reorganization I noticed that the media folder was still called "My Music", not "My Media", though the directories within for Music, Books etc were all there and organized correctly. So I renamed the folder to "My Media" and updated this name in the Advanced Preferences by changing "iTunes Media folder location."
When I now add new items to the library I find they are being added to the directory My Media, and not to the media-specific subdirectory (Music or Books or whatever) even though the entries within iTunes itself appear in the appropriate media subsection.
