My Macbookpro has turned into microsoft windows and lost all data, how do I recover it with my windows 7 still inside? I accidentally install directly

I just booted into Windows and saw that there were some Windows Updates available and it asked me to reboot the computer however it failed to boot into Windows. So I restarted and tried to boot into OS X instead, but that didn't work either.
So I put in the OS X install DVD and checked out Disk Utility. Turned out that all my partitions where screwed up. There were 3 partitions listed as Windows_ldm, with incorrect sizes (I had 4 partitions before).
Long story short: I'm now reinstalling OS X and I lost everything I had on the drive, I think. I'll try some restore software once I've gotten OS X installed.
A little pissed right now... How the heck can Windows F up the entire drive?
i was saving some files to disk yesterday to free space on my hard drive and today my laptop has a different interface for microsoft entourage and everything from my entourage calendar has been deleted. i did not download a new version of entourage. i have not lost any data from any other programs.

I have been told that they have replaced my hard drive but could not get any data off the old one. I have now lost all my data, photos, files, music etc. NO backups, only simply because i did not know how to do them. Is there any way of getting the files back? For the past few months I've been using my mid-2007 MacBook (running Snow Leopard) with a Samsung external TV/monitor (with the MacBook's lid closed). I had no problems whatsoever in terms of internet connection to my D-Link DIR-655 router. Yesterday for the first time since creating this setup, I took the MacBook with me somewhere. When I returned the MacBook to my network (closed lid, plugged my monitor back in), I started having WiFi trouble. The WiFi was initially running very slowly and then not at all. The WiFi icon on the menu bar was showing regular strength, however.
The complicating factor here is that when my MacBook is on, all other computers on the network show getting WiFi signals but the connection isn't working for them either. When I turned off my MacBook and powered down/up the modem and router, other computers could connect successfully. (But when I turned my MacBook on, the computers lost connectivity to the internet. I've already played with the router's channels without success. I also made sure there weren't any unnecessary items in my Mac's DNS listing.
So, I'm trying to recover some lost files. I put it on Data recovery 3. Everything went fine until the power in my house went out, stopping the entire process. NOW when I try to run the process, it just stalls at 33,3%, with no indication of how much time left...
Need some help here. My friend is a DJ and had an external drive with tens of thousands of songs on it. The plug broke on it and I think that corrupted it since Eject was not used. I pulled the 3.5in HDD out of the case and hooked up up with some other external plugs I have.
When I run Data Rescue 3 on it, it shows that it sees almost all of these and the only two formats it counts up are mpeg and mp3s. Data Rescue then finishes the scan and has a bunch of crap files that are not needed, but none of the songs show up. What is going on here? Did I miss something in Data Rescue 3.
The drive is a 1TB drive and the backup drive we are using is 640GB, but there was only about 250GB of music on the drive to begin with.
I did a restart after using win7 in bootcamp. after the restart, all my personal user data are gone. my desktop got wipe out clean with only Macintosh HD drive and bootcamp on it. my dock, trackpad, wallpaper change to default setting. i did a check on my applications and all the applications are still intact. however, when i open my safari, all the history is there, but there is no recent download item, all gone! There seems to be no users data in any of the applications. and although all my applications are still there, other folders located in desktop, roots, and other locations are gone.My email, outlook email, documents and download are also gone. And i dont have any backup.

So here are my questions for you guys. What is a nice portable small external HD... one I don't need to plug into the wall and the computer, pref around 320GB. Also I am going to freshly install OSX 10.6 so I think its time to go from 2GB to 4GB, what is the best RAM for my MBP 15.4 2.4GHz Unibody and where should I pick that up from?

I'm drowning here trying to get a fresh start with Snow Leopard. So I'm undergoing reinstalling all my old software from a carbon copy clone of my old hard drive. I upgraded to a larger hard-drive and snow leopard and have opted for a fresh start. See my thread here: [URL] I have most of all my software install disks except for Microsoft Office for Mac 2008. Does anyone know if I can get these disks? The copy I have is fully registered and legitimate. I just need the install disks. The other stupid thing I've done is I can't remember where/when I bought them. Its killing me. The other question I have is if I drag the MS Office 2008 folder from my carbon copy clone applications folder to my new applications folder will it all work correctly? Will it update?

I'm a little OCD about how my files are organized and I've noticed some applications Microsoft Office 2008 create mandatory folders and I can't delete them.. so I've picked the next best thing: Making them invisible! Because the application(s) requires a specific file path I can't simply add the "." prefix to the folder. I believe there is a terminal command to add the folder to a list of invisible items but I can't pull up how to do this. I've been searching google for about an hour now. Here is what I've tried and I think I'm close. My goal is to hide the "Microsoft User Data" folder.

I recently did a fresh OS install of my mac. I knew that everything was safely backed up on my external drive (through time machine). However, for some reason my filevault home folder ISN'T showing up on the external drive. I am quite certain the files are there, it's just my mac can no longer read them it seems....Is there any way to recover this data?

Now what i want to do is partition a 100gig of that FAT32 space into Mac OSX Extended, so I can copy files larger than 4gb. These 100gb are free but on the rest of the HD is data. View 11 Replies View RelatedToday, I was bored (i really regret this now) and i decided to install Windows XP onto my macbook. In boot camp assistant, I partitioned 32 gb for windows. After it partitioned, I inserted the windows disk and started installing. Everything was going fine, until it said where i wanted to install windows. It only gave me one choice, which was a partition of 131000 MB, which I thought (still think) was my OS X partition . Scared, I quit installation and ejected the CD. When I restarted my macbook, it led to a black screen with the blinking underscore line thingy (sorry I'm fairly computer illiterate).

The data is still there when I look at free capacity but I can't see it.

I recently lost all contents of a mailbox in mail when I attempted to re-name a folder (I still have no idea why a simple renaming deleted the folder in question). However I managed to purchase a copy of data rescue II and have retrieved and saved everything pertaining to the lost folder and its sub folders that I can find onto an external hard drive. However I have no idea of how to restore the various bits of retreived data in its many file types back onto my computer so that the emails and folders in question reappear in my mail app.
