MacBook Pro :: I7 Crashing And Slow Response?

May 26, 2010

so I'm wondering if my i7 macbook pro is going to need to go in. I'm having constant freezes and forcing me to force quit programs and even plugging in external speakers there is a good 45 second delay between connection and everything working. Also the volume and brightness control constantly are lagging when I try to use them. Does this sound like the tradtional freezing problem?

Intel Mac :: Very Slow Startup And Very Slow Response Time When Doing Tasks?

Apr 22, 2012

recently my Mac is really slow, slow on startup(took around 1-2hours), and slow on task(more than 5 minutes delayed time on every single task), I don't know what happened to it,

My Mac specs:

1.Mid-2010 27 inch iMac,

2.Original 4g Ram upgraded to 12g

3.1TB HD has got more than 400gb free space.

4.i3 processor

5.Using latest Lion(I think it's 10.7.3)

Problems:

1.Startup tooooooooo slow, take more than 1 hour

2.Extreamly slow on tasks. Without any apps opened, every single click, it turned into the 'colorful fan', for instance, open finder, it took more than five mins, and it's not only the finder, it's EVERYTHING!!!!

What I have done so far:

1.I have reduced the login items

2.I have changed the password login to the automatic login

3.I have tried verify disk permission, verify disk, repair disk permission and repair disk

4.Unplug all unnecessary items(monitor, external drive etc.)

5.Run couple of time of 'clean my Mac', get rid of all the trash.

6.Cleaned the cache

Due to the ridiculous, frustrating startup, that's all I could do, however, none of them worked.

Now I am using recovery HD to reinstall Lion from a disc, but I don't know if it'll work or not.

I don't have another Mac, I don't have backups(don't want to lose my data),that's my situation.

MacBook :: System Slow Response After Upgrading To Leopard

Jul 15, 2009

Bought my Macbook almost 3 years ago and it worked brilliantly but recently (after upgrading to Leopard?) I have become painfully familiar with the beach ball. Before it was blazing-fast. Now it always seems about two steps behind my brain. And that's really slow.

Hardware :: Slow Printer Response On Mac OS X 10.5.3

Jun 11, 2008

I have a HP Business Inkjet 2800 (no attachments or upgrades) and it works fine on Windows through Bootcamp, but is painfully slow on Mac OS X (10.5.3.) I've always had a problem with Macs and HP printers, but this has become ridiculous.

I have the latest drivers installed, but it can take over 14 hours to begin printing a single image, only about 15-30 minutes for text only. I don't print anything with more than 1 image from OS X anymore. I even tried using a shorter (4 ft.) USB cable.

OS X :: AFP Connection Response Time Extremely Slow

Aug 12, 2010

I'm running Snow Leopard on a Mac Pro. I often connect to a Linux server sitting at the office through afp. It connects fine, but very quickly the response time of the folders becomes extremely slow. Granted there are fire walls and network magic and whatnot between here and that server that don't exist inside the network at the office. But I feel as if this is a more recent phenomena. Connections in this way have been a little sluggish in the past, but now it's consistently unbearable--beach balls and unresponsive Finder windows. I have an internal RAID pair, and extra drives, and shared connections all talking to this machine.

Which clearly causes the occasional "hiccup" in the system. Like sometimes I wait for folders to load, or like VMWare pausing for a few seconds when trying to access some of the Mac drives. But, for the most part, the system works fast and fine. I've tried to watch the Activity Monitor while accessing the Finder windows on the server. And, all that I've learned is that FireFox is big resource hog, and that Finder barely registers any CPU effort when I click into those drives. Speakeasy tells me I'm getting around 14 Mbps for network speed. The server itself seems to be running fine (according to top and snappy terminal responses). [URL]

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Slow Response - Seems Disk Related?

May 6, 2012

I am getting very slow UI response in Lion. (iMac 27", 3 GHz, dual core i5 processor, 8 GB ram, 250 GB free on  HD). SmartReporter says disk is operating in spec (ie no alarms). Opening disk folder takes 5 seconds to get a spinning beach ball, with another 5 or more seconds to get the folder open. Also slow on directory scan during file opening dialogs. Even get the delay when opening USB drives.

OS 10.7.3, with Apache running, and the usual  load of extensions operating. But what I find irritating is that Activity Monitor reports CPU at 25 %, HD occassionally spiking to 100%, but not often, and still I seem to get these unexplained delays. Not fun. Turned off 'disk sleep' in energy saver preferences. Seemed to help for a while. Now not. Reinstalled OS X twice from store and with a USB download stick. Get wierd errors on Console: "5/6/12 5:20:31.000 PM kernel: IOSurface: buffer allocation size is zero".

Killing Safari/Flash via Activity Monitor makes a small amount of speed difference, but not much.Any comments? Suggestions? Is this a general issue with Lion? Are there any profiling S/W diagnostics that might suggest where the processor is spending its time?

Safari :: Slow System Response Due To Its Web Content CPU Usage

Jun 18, 2012

How can I modify Web Content so that it does not refresh tabs in the background?

Maybe I can at least get a "toggle" to control when it tries to access that huge junk server at "url..." ?Right now its taking over 30 seconds to respond to clicks, and then the same sort of delay before drawing the new screen.

MacBook Pro :: MBP Crashing On Video And Slow FCP / Motion?

May 18, 2010

I recently (Jan2010) purchased a new MBP 15, with 4GB RAM and 7200pm 500GB Hard disk.

The main reason for buying it was to do video editing on FCP and Motion.

However FCP on this machine seems really clunky, i.e. everything has to be rendered before you can even see an effect. Is this normal? I don't have this on my old work PC with CS4 Premiere Pro. And it sometimes crashes, even on titling.

Also, Motion is really clunky. It doesn't show me any fluidity when playing back even basic sequences... just jumping.

And when I even just play videos on QT or rented DVDs the computer just crashes about every half an hour. Proper crashing too, with no mouse movement or anything.

Can someone shed some light on this?

All the forums I read before buying this MBP, said FCP and Motion would be fine!

MacBook Air :: It Has Suddenly Become Extremely Slow And Is Always Crashing?

Jul 2, 2012

I have had my Macbook Air for a little more than 2 years. It has always worked pretty well. However, recently I went on vacation for 1 week without my laptop. When I returned home and went to turn on my computer, I noticed that it had become extremely slow. Firstly, turning on my computer has become an abnormally long process. It used to take about 2-3 minutes to turn on. Now, it takes a solid 10 minutes. Not only this, but once my computer has finally turned in, it usually takes another 10 minutes before I can open an internet browser. When I click on the browser (I used Google Chrome) no window will pop up, and after a few more clicks, my screen will freeze completely. Sometimes I will get the rainbow wheel and sometimes the screen just completely freezes without it. Sometimes I will try closing the lid of my computer and then reopening it, but when I do this, the screen stays black for a long period of time even after I have reopened it, almost as if the computer is off. After an excessive amount of key smashing and an abnormally large amount of time, the screen will finally stop being in sleep mode and show my desktop. Even then, my computer will still barely work. Once I finally get a window open and start using the internet, google chrome will end up crashing within at least 20 minutes. The entire screen will freeze, I won't be able to scroll down or exit out of the window, and I then usually have to repeat the painful process that I described above when I attempt to open my browser.

It has been over a week since I returned from vacation, and I deal with these issues every time. My computer has always been fine in the past, why is this suddenly happening? I have tried to remove some of my applications my going into Finder and highlighting the application and clicking Move to Trash, and then emptying the trash. This hasn't helped at all. Do you think that it would help to delete some of my files and data (pictures, documents, screenshots, downloads, ect) or is this irrelevant?

MacBook Pro :: 10.7 Suddenly Slow, Odd Behavior And Apps Crashing?

May 3, 2012

I've tried every trick I can think of within my current technical competency and I'm stumped for what to try next.Lately I've had some odd behaivour with it that may or may not be related or even significant...Finder hanging semi-regularly.Different programs preventing shut down.My volume randomly going up and down like the keys are being pushed (possibly a remote issue related to my recently purchased Apple TV, though not actually being used at the time of incendents?)

Current Issues Suddenly this week it feels like everything's causing trouble. Issues inclue...Various programs crashing or hanging (Firefox, Finder, Photoshop, Illustrator etc. - seems non-specific). Finder in particular I can't even get to reboot sometimes.Finder sometimes not loading view of files in folders, no spinning loading wheel either.Power cable light went amber for a period yesterday even though the MBP was at full power and plugged in all day.Photoshop file I created and know was working fine yesterday suddenly had an 'unexpected end-of-file error' today suggesting it wasn't saved properly and is since corrupted.Everything is running painfully slow, even when it works. Things I've changed latelyThe only things I can think of that I've done differently lately are these...

Upgraded my Dropbox to 100gb and started working with large artwork files directly from there.Changed the settings on my Airport Express Base Station at my office, which my MBP is set to try and connect to when possible. Remedies I've triedRebooting numerous times.Zapping the P-ram, which wont even work at the moment. Even with holding in the power button the MBP just loads to the login screen as per usual.Rebooting in safe mode.Emptying the trash can.Running iAntivirus to scan for viruses which came up clear.Repaired Disk and Repaired Disk Permissions.Run Spring Cleaning to clean System Caches.Cleared more space on my hard drive.Updated all software I'm completely out of ideas and I'm still none the wiser as to what the actual issue is.

Mac Pro :: Programs Crashing All Over The Place - Everything Very Slow

Mar 9, 2010

Apogee Maestro software was bouncing in the dock, then settled - but nothing happened. Same with skype. I could only force-quit both applications. Quicktime does the same, although if I leave it for 5 minutes, quicktime does launch - but all the controls are very laggy and playback is very stuttery (as in 4/5 frames every 30 seconds. I ran disk utility, and some permissions needed repairing. I then checked the boot disk and a 'significant/serious (whatever the nomenclature is) error' was found, so I ran the boot disk for Leopard and repaired the disk, which Disk Utility seemed happy enough with.

The problems are all still present though. Clicking through folders on all three of my drives is very slow, and luck alone seems to determine the success of attempting to launch any application. Does anyone know what may be happening - or is there any diagnostic software which may help? I've suffered hard disk failure before, and this doesn't seem like it (although I am backed up).

MacBook Pro :: GBP Keeps Pausing/delaying Response?

Jul 20, 2009

I have a new MBP 2.53+4gb and it constantly is pausing. Even as I type this after 10 words I have to wait a few seconds for the next 5 to show up. If I'm scrolling it'll just stop scrolling and then jump half the page. I'm not using up too many resources as I'm only using firefox/aim/email. But the pausing occurs whether I'm just reading the news or using photoshop.

(Also about a month ago my hard drive crashed and I returned my computer to apple where they installed a new hard drive and OS.)

So my question is: Is this a common issue that has been addressed and fixable? If so please direct me. If not, is there anything I can try before taking it back to the Apple store...again?

MacBook Pro :: X Over Battery Symbol - No Response From SMC Reset

Jun 26, 2014

So last Sunday morning I was playing Xbox while having my MacBook playing music from iTunes.  I unplugged the charger at about 30% battery life left and let it run pretty low (%3) when I grabbed my charger to plug it in and the light wouldn't come on.  I tried numerous plug ins throughout the house that all worked and still no light.  (Keep in mind that I live nowhere close to a Mac store, or even a computer shop that sells or knows anything about Macs)  So later Sunday night I purchased an Apple charger which I received today (Thursday).  So I plugged it in and it only shows a green light and I thought that was weird because the battery is dead.

I turn the computer on and I saw an "x" over the battery usually where it shows the charge or if it's charging.  When I click on it it reads "No Battery Available"  and then says under that "Power Source: Power Adapter".  So I did a little research on the forums, google, and YouTube where it seemed the only response was doing an SMC reset.  So I did that and held down for 20 seconds, started computer and it was the same.  I also had it turned off and let it sit on the charger because I read that could possibly work, and it didn't.  If I unplug the power adapter it just shuts the computer off.  I just got this battery replaced 2-3 weeks ago from Apple and everything was fine.

MacBook Pro :: Setting Keyboard Sensitivity - Lack Of Response

Nov 7, 2010

I had a look today at various models of the MBP, I must say I like everything about them except the keyboard, to touch type on it, it feels very cheap, very "lack of response". I am a fast touch typist, and I am used to bashing out 60+ wpm, however I found on all the models I tired, 13,15 and 17 the keyboard is all much of a much. I found typing fast that characters don't appear on the screen.

I assume somewhere in the options there are settings to change the keyboard sensitivity? That's really the only thing putting me off buying one, well apart from also deciding what screen size to get. Portability vs. Screen Size. I wish Apple offered an i7 version of the 13" MBP, that would make the choice easy.
