I have a macbook pro late 2010 model. Suddenly the mouce tracp won't work. I does everything I ask it to and even click. But when I click nothing happens.

Every time I click on Safari nothing happens (macbook pro). Could it possibly be open in a hidden window? I have force quit, tried to reopen, tried to open in finder...nothing is working for me.Â
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm in a position where I have no way of clicking, this brings up a ridiculous problem I never thought I'd encounter whereby I can't even back up or fix the problem.
Ridiculous error if you ask me, there is an option to use universial access and turn on mouse keys but I can't click the stupid option.
How can I click/select items. Can't find any shortcuts that will allow me to do this, plugging in mouse still doesn't work.

My track pad will work to move the pointer, but I cannot click on anything. If I shut down and restart my computer, I am able to use a usb mouse just fine. If I so much as touch the track pad the usb mouse will only move the pointer and not click anything. I will have to restart the computer to be able to use the mouse again.
I have tried a SMC and a PRAM reset and it did not work. I did check the track pad settings and those are all ok. I am not sure if there is a way to do the AHT without a disk. I did look into some .plist thing to, but was not able to find what they were talking about so I did not do that.
Previously I pressed down on my track pad to click, but then I discovered the tap to click feature and I love it. Now I'm curious as to what everyone else uses.

The trackpad makes the sound it is clicking but nothing happens on the screen. If i press really really hard on the bottom left corner it will register I have clicked, but it's not very practically.Â

I did a search and didn't see anybody with the same problem. I have an Oct 2008 (unibody) MBP with 2.8 ghz core 2 duo, 4GB RAM, 320 GB 7200 RPM HDD.So I loaded a YouTube page, paused a video to let it load and suddenly when I tried to click "play" the track pad seemed to not be working. I then realized that it was highlighting all the text and I couldn't click out of it. Likewise, when I apple-q safari, it began selected icons in my desktop. I noticed I could still two-finger-tap to right click and open a context menu, but I can't select anything within that menu.
I can't imagine the notebook suddenly became damaged. I know early macbook pros had a similar problem due to the battery swelling, but I opened the battery compartment and the battery feels very cool. I also read that resetting the SMC and repairing disk permissions might help, but that didn't do anything either.
If I click on a icon then i have to wait several seconds until i can klick again to rename (that takes also several seconds until i can rename it) it or something else. since some days my trackpad always wants to open the file if i click on it. the other mysterious thing is, when I plug in an usb-mouse (not magic mouse) and click on a link in the safari app with the middle-button of the mouse, my macbook air opens the link in a new tab twice, instead of one single time. if there somewhere is an option to reset all the option of the input devices?Â

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an iPad 32GB WiFi and a MacBook Pro as well so I was trying very hard to justify myself in getting an 11" MBA but ending up talking myself out of it. The 13" MBP is perfect for my uses. It's already lightweight and portable as it is. After playing with the 11" in the Apple store, I was impressed on how light it was. This no doubt blows away any netbook or any notebook in it's weight class in terms of size and performance. However, the MBP's battery life, hard drive space, and processing power OUTWEIGHS the reasons of dumping my 13" MBP for the Air. Also, I have it hooked up to a 21.5 Inch HP monitor at home and it's good enough to use as a main computer at home, and light enough to take on the road.
If I needed to lookup something quickly in bed or around the house, that's where the iPad comes in. If I needed to send a quick e-mail, my HTC Evo is already great at doing that. If I didn't have a 13" MBP or even the iPad, I would have most likely went ahead and purchased the MBA. Just now at this point, spending another $1000+ or getting rid of my MBP doesn't make much sense... yet.
I've been lurking MacRumors ever since 'the wait for Arrandale' began and finally decided to sign up now so I could post this thread. I've been a Windows user for a long time now and I have a Win7 rig at home. However, I'll be going to uni later this year so I need a good portable notebook that's suitable for the common mailing 'n surfing, but also for doing some programming in Eclipse (Java) and PHP work etc. I still have my Win7 box at home for gaming and things that require larger screensize, but for the notebook... I feel really attracted to OSX with a MBP.
It will be my first Mac, but my desktop dualboots with OSX and I love it. So that's why I have decided that my school notebook will be a Mac. This is why I have been closely watching the rumors for the new MBPs and ofcourse I was pretty disappointed when I saw that the 13" model still had a C2D cpu... It's not that I need a beefed up CPU in my notebook (... I have a 3.6 GHz quad at home ), but it feels 'wrong' to buy a MBP 13": even the 2009 MacBook has a C2D, so what will the MB 2010 update bring? Is it really worth the extra money? Anyone with a similar situation?
I have a new MBP 2.53+4gb and it constantly is pausing. Even as I type this after 10 words I have to wait a few seconds for the next 5 to show up. If I'm scrolling it'll just stop scrolling and then jump half the page. I'm not using up too many resources as I'm only using firefox/aim/email. But the pausing occurs whether I'm just reading the news or using photoshop.
(Also about a month ago my hard drive crashed and I returned my computer to apple where they installed a new hard drive and OS.)
So my question is: Is this a common issue that has been addressed and fixable? If so please direct me. If not, is there anything I can try before taking it back to the Apple store...again?
My MacBook Pro, now 3 1/2 yrs. old, crashed. I was able to get it up and running but it no longer responds at all when I try to force quit (Safari often "spins out"/beachballs and I have to power off and restart.

I'm having constant freezes and forcing me to force quit programs and even plugging in external speakers there is a good 45 second delay between connection and everything working. Also the volume and brightness control constantly are lagging when I try to use them. Does this sound like the tradtional freezing problem?

When restarted, everything will be fine. In winter if i leave the macbook sleep over a night , when i use it the next day this problem must appear.But in summer ,it never happens. And i also find when keyboard and trackpad have no response, the usb mouse can still work. So it is not a crash.

I very confused about my line in port. I'm trying to hook my macbook up to my 4 channel PA using a 1/8" input jack, I am using garageband, but I get no response. the driver is switched to built in line in port but still nothing. I find that when I unplug it a little bit, the computer picks up the sound but there is a strange fuzz sound that accompanies it. So basically, the input does not work when I plug it in all the way. I know it worked before, perhaps I blew the input?

View 7 Replies View RelatedSo last Sunday morning I was playing Xbox while having my MacBook playing music from iTunes. I unplugged the charger at about 30% battery life left and let it run pretty low (%3) when I grabbed my charger to plug it in and the light wouldn't come on. I tried numerous plug ins throughout the house that all worked and still no light. (Keep in mind that I live nowhere close to a Mac store, or even a computer shop that sells or knows anything about Macs) So later Sunday night I purchased an Apple charger which I received today (Thursday). So I plugged it in and it only shows a green light and I thought that was weird because the battery is dead.Â
I turn the computer on and I saw an "x" over the battery usually where it shows the charge or if it's charging. When I click on it it reads "No Battery Available" and then says under that "Power Source: Power Adapter". So I did a little research on the forums, google, and YouTube where it seemed the only response was doing an SMC reset. So I did that and held down for 20 seconds, started computer and it was the same. I also had it turned off and let it sit on the charger because I read that could possibly work, and it didn't. If I unplug the power adapter it just shuts the computer off. I just got this battery replaced 2-3 weeks ago from Apple and everything was fine. Â
I had a look today at various models of the MBP, I must say I like everything about them except the keyboard, to touch type on it, it feels very cheap, very "lack of response". I am a fast touch typist, and I am used to bashing out 60+ wpm, however I found on all the models I tired, 13,15 and 17 the keyboard is all much of a much. I found typing fast that characters don't appear on the screen.
I assume somewhere in the options there are settings to change the keyboard sensitivity? That's really the only thing putting me off buying one, well apart from also deciding what screen size to get. Portability vs. Screen Size. I wish Apple offered an i7 version of the 13" MBP, that would make the choice easy.
Whenever I press on the volume key or brightness, I have to hold it down for 3 seconds for it to change, it didn't do that before, I messed it up, can it be fixed?

View 24 Replies View RelatedThe trackpad/cursor on my Macbook Pro vs10.6.8 acts stangely. Sometime the cursor jumps around randomly and can't get any response from the trackpad. The condition is getting worse and has about made the trackpad useless. I have tried using as wireless mouse and have had no problems whatsoever, which leads me to believe the problem is in fact in the trackpad/cursor; either the hardware or softeare associated with same.

Quit and restarted address book so I can now type in the search field but it still won't navigate to the name I type in. Nor does it respond once I scroll down to the card I want and click on the name.

I have got the 2.4ghz aluminium macbook, and I upgraded the ram to 4GB about a 2 months back. I have always felt that my macbook is slower now than before the upgrade(which is strange), but recently the situation became worst. My macbook would randomly heats up very quickly, iStats pro would show me that i only have 1-10MB of free memory, my fan would be running on 6200rpm. response rate would be much slower, and circle of rainbow also occurs much more often.I get panic whenever this happens(i have only got my macbook for 5-months), so when that happens i usually try to quit those application that i am not using like mail, safari, iwork 09 and etc. It didn't really help much(or maybe not at all) until at some point(around about 30-45mins) the systems automatically cools down, reduce fan speed and etc but similar problem would happen again in 30mins.
