OS X :: Unable To Access Files / Recover Files From Reformatted Hard Drive?

Sep 29, 2009

I cannot believe I am actually in this position, but I accidentally reformatted my lacie 1TB external HD. The files were not overwritten as it was the most basic and quick format option, but they are not accessible.

Can anyone recommend a good data recovery app that works for OS X?

Anyone know what the best course of action would be?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Access Certain Files On External HD

Nov 17, 2010

I have recently purchased a Toshiba 2 TG external hard drive to hold media files for my Western Digital TV Live Plus media player. I formatted the hard drive in OS Extended Journaled and my macbook pro has no trouble seeing the hard drive and transferring data to it from my mac's internal hard drive. My issue is that some transferred files will not show up right away on the Toshiba hard drive. I have to search them out by name and then most of the time they will appear, but other times, I have to wait quite awhile for them to show up. I was transferring via an eSATA cable and originally blamed it on this, but it is also happening when using a USB cable.

MacBook Pro :: Can't Access Files After Accident

May 2, 2012

A couple weeks ago I spilled some water on my open MacBook Pro.  I turned it off immediately, wiped off the water and let it dry out.  I took it to an IT center nearby and they took everything apart and made sure it was dry before they tested anything.  When I went to go pick it up, they said that one of my RAM sticks had gotten damaged and aside from a small amount of corrosion on my motherboard, everything seemed fine.  I the computer runs pretty smoothly now, I can acess the internet fine and the majority of my apps work.  The problem comes when I want to access any saved files.  I can't open Finder, I can't attach files to an email and I cant turn off my computer without forcing it to shut down by pressing and holding the power button.

MacBook Pro :: OS X (10.7.3) Access Mac Files From PC Over Network

Dec 1, 2014

I have a MacBook Pro running OS X Yosemite and I want to share some files with a PC which is connected to the same WiFi network.

In the Finder on my MacBook, I can see the name of my PC in the 'Shared' section of the sidebar, but I can't access it because it is a work computer and therefore belongs to a domain so I can't access the PC from my Mac. However there must surely be a similar way to access my Mac from the PC?

I just want to be able to transfer files relatively easily between the two machines without using a USB stick or similar.

MacBook Air :: Can't Access Certain Files Don't Have Permission

Jul 1, 2014

I have some photos that won't open because it says 'I Don't have Permission to Access."  Out of 700, all in the same folder, only about 200 have this problem.  I did the "Get Info" cans changed permission, but I had permission to 'Read and Write' the file.  Then I tried letting Disk Utility fix it, but it's not an Apple File so it doesn't touch it.  Then I tried the Terminal, but sense it's just in one folder I couldn't figure out how to adjust the one folder. How to regain access to all my pictures?  It's on a Macbook Air running Lion

MacBook Pro :: Won't Boot / Not Enough Space - How To Access Hard Drive To Remove Files

Jun 30, 2014

I can't boot my MacBook Pro. My hard drive is completely full. I was running a software update and didn't realize how big the file was. The computer shut off part of the way through the update and hasn't booted up since. How can I access the files on this drive to make some space?

I am running mavericks, but I don't know which version. I purchased a cable to access the internal drive through a USB on another computer. The drive shows up in disk utility, but will not let me browse the drive.

Windows On Mac :: How To Access OS X Files While Using XP

Dec 6, 2009

I have a uMBP 17" with OSX Leopard on it, I just installed Windows XP. I partitioned the Harddrive to be 32gb for Windows XP, and set the file type to FAT32 (since it needs to be to run mac files, right?) Anyway. All that is done, and I installed the Apple Drivers for Windows and such, but all of my documents are empty. Which makes sense, since it's a fresh install of Windows. But how do I access the files that are on my OSX while I'm on Windows?

I mean, I know people have said they can access their music and photos, which is all that really matters to me mostly. I was assuming there'd be a way to just get into all of your OSX files while on Windows. Maybe act as a 2ndary harddrive or something. Is there a way to see/access my OSX files while on Windows? Or would I have to send myself all the files somehow? and have a double of everything, one for OSX and one for Windows?

OS X :: How Do I Access The Files On My Old Drive

May 1, 2010

I made the switch to an 80 GB Intel SSD yesterday. My two year old MBP is now as good as new.

I also bought an external case for the old HDD. That, too, works just fine—I can browse the HDD like any other drive.

Yet I can't see any files—only folders.

I understand the logic behind this (with my account being password protected and all that), but I still need my old files back.

How do I proceed? What options do I have?

OS X :: Trying To Remotely Access PC Files From Mac

Aug 4, 2010

I'll be moving away for university in a month but will occasionally need to access my family PC at home (remotely) to transfer files to my Mac and manage those files (mainly deleting them afterwards). I've been doing some research and have found remote desktop access applications like LogMeIn and VNC freeware, and I seem to gather that VPN networks can somehow accomplish what I'm trying to do here. Problem is, the easy-to-use apps like LogMeIn are awfully expensive for what they do, and I'm looking for something free or relatively cheap that can handle my problem properly. But the freeware VNC clients are extremely confusing to me, and I'm having trouble understanding the concept of VPNs, how they work and how they can possibly solve my problem here.

Windows On Mac :: Can't Access To Files / Bootcamp Or Parallels?

Aug 5, 2009

I have MBP running 10.5.7 2.4 with 4 gigs of ram and I need to run Windows. I would like to run it stand alone to use all my available resources, as I will be running PS AE 3DsMax ect..., but the kicker is I would need access to my Mac files.

I read that "bootcamp" installs will not allow access to Mac files and folders while in PC and vise versa... true? Parallels will but then Im not taking advantage of all my hardware resources running windows this way... Do suggest run a "bootcamp" install and use a removable for storage of all files so I can go back and forth with them if need be? I have files on my mac right now I will need to open and have access to inside of Windows programs.

OS X Mavericks :: Access Volumes And Files Locally

Sep 7, 2014

I want to connect to a windows box which has sharing enabled. I was doing this yesterday and it was fine. Today, Mavericks has thrown in the towel and decided to think different. What I normally do is CMD-K and connect to the server. I'll type it in - smb://tardproof - but it can't do it.So I'll try connecting to it by it's known, fixed IP address - smb://192.168.0.107 - and ...

Since the mac clearly thinks it *can* see it on the network, otherwise why would it be listing it in the finders' "Shared" area? I mean, that's an automatic thing and not something you can command-drag out like normal locations..Maybe it's SMB playing up. I know, I'll connect forcing SMB1, since I know Mavericks now defaults to v2. No, wait, the message has changed. "Access the volumes and files locally."

so ok, there's definately nothing there in /Volumes, but I know I can ping it. Let's have a look from the other end - can Windows see my mac? So we have a single direction smb system, in the exact opposite than I need.
