I'm using Mail and Lion. My MBP is from 2009. Now I've a new one and want to transmit everything by "time machine" to my new MBP.

All files were transmittet, but my mails are lost (I can see the file system and folder structure but all folders are empty).

OS X :: Can I Restore ALL My Mail From My Time Machine

Sep 25, 2009

we had our MBP fixed (it was having a kernel panic due to bad RAM stick which was under warranty at the store we got it from).

In the process I practically wiped the computer of all critical data, including mail, and backed it up in time machine. I also removed the e-mail accounts.

If I do a clean install with SL, can I simply add one of the accounts back in, and then go into time machine and restore the mail (backed up on leopard) back onto the computer?

OS X :: Accidently Deleted Mail W / Time Machine?

Jul 24, 2009

Either I accidently deleted an email in my apple mail inbox or my computer deleted it (because it was in my inbox for several months) but now I can no longer find this important email. Though, I do have time machine running always, so I was wondering if the email had been saved to anywhere on the hard drive where time machine may still have it.

OS X Yosemite :: Time Machine Not Backing Up Mail?

Dec 11, 2014

I just discovered that I am unable to restore mail since about the time I first installed Mavericks over a year ago. Prior to that time I can see the mail in time machine and recover a specific email.  Since that time forward there is nothing shown to restore.  I am now running Yosemite. I rebuilt my inbox to see and after completing that it still is not allowing me to see the any mail that was backed up.  So I can restore any emails from prior to the end of September 2013, but it appears I have no backups of email since that time.  This is disturbing.  So much for relying on Time Machine for backups.

Software :: Moving Apple Mail Files To Another Machine

How do I "move" Apple Mail files from one machine to another? I have Machine A. It went ill & I merged its Mail files into Machine B. Now Machine A is healthy again & I want to move/merge Mail files on Machine B back to A. I'm concerned that if I "merge" B back to A, I'll get a lot of duplicate folders/emails.

Intel Mac :: Mail App Not Opening After Time Machine Import

I just replaced my old hard drive today, and transferred over all data/settings etc using time machine. Everything went well until I tried to open mail. It instructed me to import my emails, and after click "done". Fine. Now I can't open mail. Restarted. Tried to open mail, and again, it instructed me to do the same thing? Btw - I'm using a late 2006 intel imac, with Snow Leopard (10.6.8).

OS X Mavericks :: Importing (Mac) Mail Only From Time Machine Backup?

Dec 1, 2014

I have a MBP that is around 3yo; I'm running 10.9.5.

Over the past eight years or so I've gone through several desktops and laptops and have used disk images (via Time Machine) to move info and programs from one machine to another dozens of times. . .main unit to backup unit and back again, main unit to new unit, etc.

There is all sorts of "stuff" - programs and who knows what - that I probably don't need anymore and I feel like I'm perpetuating some of my computer issues by having all this junk on my hard drive. I'm at the point where I'd like to totally wipe my computer clean and reinstall everything from scratch - but only install the stuff I want/need. I would manually reinstall the Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office suite, for example, and then upload my documents, photos, music, browser bookmarks, etc.

My stumbling block is the bloody Mac Mail program. I use this extensively for work and NEED the folders to be in place with all the emails they contain (including deleted email). This is hugely important and has to go right. I can't seem to figure out how to cherry pick this one from Time Machine, though. It seems that the only option is take the ENTIRE Time Machine disk image and transfer it to my computer (which I don't want).

When I used Entourage years ago it was possible to just export everything and then reimport it onto the new machine. Is this not possible with Mail? Is there a way to "cherry pick" Mac Mail from Time Machine and pull ONLY that over onto my reformatted machine?

Applications :: Transferred To New Machine - Trying To Copy Over Mail Folder In Library

May 7, 2010

I've just transferred to a new machine, I tried simply adding my e-mail accounts in and have had trouble.
So, I'm trying to copy the Mail folder in my user's library on my old machine onto my new machine.

I've placed them in the correct folder, when I open mail it's not loading my old messages.

Any thoughts on why it isn't working? Am I missing something?

EDIT: Aha! Success, I copied my mail.plist file (under Library > Preferences) onto my new machine as well.

OS X Mountain Lion :: Mail Not Restoring Email From Time Machine?

Aug 26, 2014

restoring email from my Time Machine backup.

It's an IMAP account, and someone accessed the email from an iPad - almost the entire inbox was emptied.

I have TM running and I have restored the INBOX.mbox file to the finder just in case. And here are the steps I have followed: Tried to restore all the emails into the inbox in question through TimeMachine in Mail.Tried to restore the entire INBOX through TimeMachine in Mail.Tried to restore email via importing the recovered folder.Tried to do a test import of 1 email through TimeMachine in Mail.

All failed.

The sent items are still OK and present, and the account is in active use, so if I could just restore the inbox emails that would be the best.

I understand that when they are restored they will need to upload to the server and populate there, but 2 hours should definitely be enough and there is no visible activity in my mail to indicate that is happening.

OS X Mavericks :: 10.9.3 - Mail Import Fails After Time Machine Restore

Jun 22, 2014

Running 10.9.3 on a MacBook Pro and just replaced the hard drive. I did a Time Machine restore and Mail is now hanging part way through the import. I saw a number of threads on this issue and and fixed permissions and deleted the Envelope Index files. Still no luck. I'm unsure what else I can do to isolate the problem. Is there anything that I can restore that would not require Mail to re-import?

OS X :: Restore Mail Inbox With Time Machine / Unable To See Contents Of Email

Dec 16, 2009

I have a problem with my inbox, seems its corrupted in some way. I can see the headers, but no contents, cant delete or move message. All other folders seem OK. Its from a POP3 mailbox where the originals are deleted off the server when downloaded so I'd prefer to try and recover it but I can live with losing the contents if necessary. Any ideas? Is there a tool or way to repair? I have Time Machine but I doubt the TM backup will have caught these files between them being downloaded (they came in one batch) and being corrupted as it was only a few minutes. Not sure how I could tell if TM did catch them either.

Update; Impressive, TM did recover them, now I just need to work out how to empty the inbox of the corrupt messages. Worst case I can create a new email account but I'd rather not as configuring it was troublesome.

Second Update; Mailbox > rebuild, then move the messages from the TM mail recovered folder back to inbox.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Restoring Mail, Etc From Time Machine To A Wiped-clean Disk?

Mar 10, 2012

I have wiped my hard disk clean and reinstalled Lion. I don't want to restore the whole shebang from my Time Machine backup because I want my apps to be installed clean. So my first question is about restoring my mail. I understand that I should make Mail my current application, then click on "Enter Time Machine."When I do that, I see "Today" which is my current setup - nothing much on my computer. I try to go back in time, but I can't because Time Machine thinks "Today" is the only existing backup. How can I get Time Machine to restore Mail from my hard drive before it was wiped clean?

ITunes For Mac :: Restoring Mail Messages / Settings And Boxes From Time Machine

Jun 2, 2014

Recently had to replace my hard drive on my iMac which had OS X Mavericks. I accidently ignored the Recovery option when I first restarted my Mac not understanding it would completely restore everything as it was. However, im taking the opportunity now to rebuild my Mac manually, learning a lot and saving the space that many of my unneccessary files took up. I've rebuilt my itunes Library including restoring playlists, also my iPhoto library and Album organization. While I am able to replenish all of my mail messages (over 3000) through re-connecting the settings for mail, what I lose is all of my mailboxes and sub-boxes I had set up, as well as those hundreds of messages I had flagged and tagged in various colours. I would like direction on how I can restore my mail settings, messages and mailbox structure from my Time Machine back-ups. Really all I need to know are which files I need to look for from that earlier date and how to safely replace them into my current system.

MacBook Pro :: SSD In 2010 - Enter Time Machine And / Or Finder The Machine Freezes

Jan 1, 2011

Have installed an 120GB SSD in my Macbook Pro 2010 but have had a couple of problems. Sometimes when you try to enter time machine and or Finder the machine freezes. Also the only way out of this is to hold the power button down and reboot. I have been informed by Apple that there are slight differences between the 2009 and 2010 models. Another odd thing is Skype will not load up automatically on startup, despite making sure this option is ticked. Most other things seem to work. Reinstall original hard drive and all OK.I have tried this with OCZ and Crucial SSDs and get same result. I have also installed the SSDs by cloning and by direct original OS X disk.

Software :: Setup A Mail Server From A Mac OS X Server Machine?

Jul 15, 2008

I want to setup a mail server from a Mac OS X server machine.

I used the standard configuration as the wizard is going to setup all the services automatically.

I have an email of the kind server.com

After the finish of the configuration all the system was working perfectly, except one thing. I could not browse to any .com address I could not resolve the apple.com address. This is actually a DNS server issue and as my DNS server is hosted to my ISP, I closed the DNS service from the Server admin app. Now I could browse to .com addresses but all the settings to the client computers need to be done manually. Meaning not from the Directory utility. The problem is that the address of the server was changed from server.com to server.local so all the settings now are server.local, including my email address that changed from user@server.com to user@server.local that cannot be replayed from the recipient

My Question is can I change the default configuration settings that the directory utility sets?? or do any other configuration to solve the issue.

Also in the webmail when I send an email the email of the sender is the username continued by the ISP's internal static IP host which is different to my server.com. I found a solution to change the email from the personal information tag of the options button. Can I also pre configure these settings to be ready as a new user is created??

Software :: Apple Mail Program Doesn't Send Mail Through Optimum Mail

Aug 29, 2009

I'm having trouble with my Apple Mail program. I have a number of e-mail accounts (some with Optimum online, a g-mail, yahoo, etc.) Apple Mail has no problem at all reading and downloading any mail from any of the services. My problem is with Optimum Mail (Optonline.net). Mail refuses to send anything through that set-up. I've been on the phone for hours with Optimum and the settings are all correct. I've tried connecting directly to the cable modem and mail gets sent. This would make me believe that it is the Apple Airport Extreme router that is at fault. I've tried restarting it, re-initializing it and setting it up again and the problem continues. All my Optimum mail is picked up and can be read but it will not send anything through Optimum. It asks if I want to send it through another server (like g-mail or yahoo) and if I pick yes the mail sends.

It happens on all my computers a G-3 and pre Intel iMac G-5 on Tiger and my Macbook on Leopard.

Anyone else hear of this problem? Both Apple support and Optimum online say they have never heard of it. Talking for hours with their tech departments have found no solutions.
