Desktops :: Graphics Card Heating Up / Fans Running Very Fast
Sep 7, 2010I'm worried about too much heat and wearing out fans in both the card and my Mac.Below are the conditions, but first:
-Is it normal for this kind of card to run ALL the time? How do I know if it's acting correctly?
-Given the heat and fan speed info below, are my Mac and internal drives OK?
-Am I risking any breakdowns? Due to heat or fans running too much... or?
-Do all graphics cards cause the fans to run like this? Is there a cooler card out there?
-Suggestions to lessen the heat effects... or for another alternative?

Mar 4, 2012So I have a Macbook pro and I have Lion and my computer continues to occasionally freeze while I am running skype. This issue has also occured while I was running Imovie as well. I took it into the Apple store and everyone checked out ok. And when the screen freezes it sometimes goes all black or a grey textured background.

Aug 7, 2010This is my first post and I hope you guys can help me. I know what I'm about to ask has been asked numerouse times, but I still can't find an answer that satisfies me. So, I was using the screen-sharing feature of Skype and my girlfriend wanted me to show her The Sims 3 game. I was running Safari, MSN Messenger, Skype and a full screen instance of The Sims 3. My Macbook Pro crashed in the loading screen of the game and the fans turned on at full screen.Since that happened, I'm hearing the fans more constantly.

Jun 23, 2009I recently downloaded skype to use on my eMac running OSX 10.3.9. However, I cannot get the program to open. The little icon on the dock just bounces once when I click it and nothing happens. If I click again it will bounce again, but will never open. What do I have to do to get it to work? I have skype on my other two PCs and it works fine so I know there is no problem with firewalls or anything. Even if there was, the program should still open it just wouldn't be able to make calls.

Jun 14, 2010On the right hand side of my desktop when I download a program it seems to put an icon or doc on the right hand side. Like right now I have a skype dmg file I can't delete as it says Skype is in use, then right above that is a seperate skype icon that even if I drag to dock it still stays on the right hand side (like a copy), then I downloaded open office again and it put the install icon there (like when you open and you drag your program to teh applications folder)

Software :: Tried To Use The Internet And Skype, But The Skype Didn't Work At All?
Jun 5, 2008I have reached this website after scrawling to find a solution on the internet. I hope someone can help me with this problem.I have a 4 years old G4 ibook (OS 10.3.7), and have been using it for internet, skype and foto-storage mainly.Situtation:Yesterday I tried to use the internet (Firefox browser) and skype, but the skype didn't work at all. Since firefox was not working properly either, I did force quit and restarted the computer. I attempted this several times until I could use both applications (never had any problems before). However, Skype didn't work, and in the end, I could not quit firefox at all. At last I did force quit again, and saw white screen with apple icon at the centre when restarting. No time-spinning mark, the apple just sits there.
Troubleshooting that I have done:
I called up support center, and they told me that it's very likey that the computer is stopping at "'carnel" stage (I'm sorry but I don't know what this is). The possibility that it's got something to do with HD is 50/50, so I may have to send it to repairing service in the worst case. They told me to try using Disc Install CD1 to check/repair something wrong in my computer. So I followed the instructions and inserted the install CD and restart the computer with "c" key. The computer read the CD and Installer window showed up. As instructed in a manual, I used First Aid in Disc Utility, and tried "repairing disc". After a while it said "1 HFS has been repaired". It also said that Macintosh HD doesn't seem to have a problem", so I quit the disc utility and restarted the computer.
Against my expectation, the same white screen with apple came up on the screen and sits there with no other movements.I'm afraid of trying somethinig without further so I hope I can get the same story or ideas that someone here might have.

Nov 7, 2010I have the 1st Gen 13" Macbook Unibody Aluminum. I upgraded my ram to 4GB.
But...
Whenever I watch youtube/flash videos on full screen or play even games like Counter Strike on lowest settings. My Macbook heats up like crazy.
Any reason know why this may be the case?

May 8, 2012My Air has been running slower than it used to and the fan comes on more often. I've been using Activity Monitor to see what's going on and it looks as though Safari is the most likely culprit as resource hog. Now I'm running Firefox and I'm not having the same problem (so far). Does anyone have any experience with this? I've only been noticing the problem for the past few months and I've always used Safari.

May 23, 2012Fan gets to 6,500 RPMs within 10 to 15 minutes of use. It mosty happen when I am connected to internet. I used to think, the Youtube / Flash does it. But even after disabling Flash, it spins to 6,500 with usual ferver. I have tried You tube HTML 5 version , no effect.
Apart from disabling Flash, I do not wjat else to do. All normal humans have to go to net!

Feb 14, 2008Is everyone else also seeing their GPU Diode about 10-15 degrees Farenheit higher than everything else through iStat??
Currently, roughly everything is at about 130 degrees and with my GPU Diode at 144 degrees..
Just hoping this is normal.. can you guys post your average GPU Diode and Heatsink temperatures?

May 7, 2012My MacBook Air was not starting up so I sent it in for a repair. Just got a call that the logic board is corroded and there is excessive water damage. However, I have never split anything on my laptop nor has anyone else. I carry it around with me all the time. I thought at first it might be damage due to a shock as a dropped it a few months ago and it has a slight dent on a corner.

Fans are around 6k RPM (playing The Sims 3 on Windows 7 Professional, using Everest Ultimate Edition for monitoring). I just wonder if it's ok or not to be like that. BTW, should I put on the hard case while playing? And can someone give some advice for playing games on the MBP?

Whenever I run a Windows 7 Pro virtual machine under Parallels 7, ~ 6 G-Byte of wired memory is used. I have allocated 4 G-Byte of memory to the virtual machine. I would expect plenty of free space and that used to be the case but no longer. I am tired of an unresponsive machine and spinning beach-balls.

Nov 4, 2010I'm using Safari 5.0.2. Lately every time I use Safari at some point during usage when I try to open a new tab or window I cannot do so. What happens is the new tab appears but the website I want opens in one of my other tabs already open. or it will fail to load in the new tab/window. At the same time as this happening Safari is crashing more and more and my Macbook fan is whirring like mad.
Any ideas what's going on? It's so frustrating having to get chucked out or log out to make my tabs work for a short while before they stop functioning properly again.
I am not overly tecchy minded so may need hand holding to help me through this!

Jun 7, 2010I have a rev B MBA, which is gorgeous but I have found myself using it less than any other Laptop I've ever had and it is simply due to two reasons:
- Heat, pretty much anything except simple browsing raise the heat
- Battery time, simply lousy (including charge time)
Have had it for a while, 14 months, but at this point I have started looking at the 13 and 15 inch versions as replacements down the road. I thought it would make a great compliment to the imac but due to the limitations above I use it less and less. If only they had added a fraction of an inch of thickness to allow better heat handling and more battery.

Sep 5, 2014Grid is a race game that you can buy off of the app store and i bought it thinking my macbook would not act the way it did. The game downloads and i start to play it. After about 2 minuets, the fans kick on and get incredibly loud as the macbook starts to heat up. Whenever i play it, i make sure that all the other applications are closed and that the quality is at the very lowest that it can be at. Still does the same thing. Why is this happening and is there a way i can get it to stop the computer from overheating to the point that the fans get so loud?

Aug 21, 2009I bought a 13" uMBP pretty much as soon as they came out.
I am now noticing heat in the power pack - so hot I'm barely able to hold it once it has been plugged in for, say, 15 mins.
I also think that the battery is now getting uncomfortably warm in a way it wasn't initially, although nowhere near the temperature of the power pack.
Has anyone else experienced this or heard any reports of similar incidences?

MacBook Air :: Storage Reporting Photos Are Taking Up Excessive Space
Aug 24, 2014I can't seem to find out why my Mac is reporting such excessive storage use for "Photos". My iPhoto library says it's only about 1.47GB. Earlier today, I unchecked the option of importing photos from other locations to the iPhoto library, since we have an external hard drive that we use to store photos.
Why it's reporting such high usage? In the screenshot is OmniDiskSweeper, which shows sizes of each folder. They definitely aren't adding up to the 92GB that it says is in use, unless all that extra data is coming from some folder I don't have permission to.
