I'm using Time Machine to backup my computer, and the backup is going fine. But when I try to enter Time Machine to go back and look for a file from a few months ago, the program will not open at all. I click on the icon and nothing happens. Does anyone have any ideas as to why I cannot enter Time Machine at all? P.S. This i a Macbook Pro mid-2010 with OS X Lion 10.7.3.

After a defragmentation of my external drive wich containt my time machine back-up, i can't enter in time machine

I cannot enter Time Machine—The backups are being created and I can manually navigate through the backup, but it simply will not load. I am running the 10.7.4 on a 2010 27" iMac.Â
I've tried everything that Pondini recommends including deleting finder.plist, disconnecting second monitor, resetting Time Machine from scratch, entering with Mail.app or Address Book as the foreground app, deselecting Time Machine drive, using a directly-connected USB drive instead of a network share, and starting Time Machine from another user account. I do not have a virus scanner or a Finder replacement.Â
Notes:I have symlinked a few folders in my home directory to another drive: Pictures being the important one. I've tried using a straight folder in each case.I do have a lot of apps running, notably: Viscosity, Alfred, Growl, Dropbox, Sparkleshare (though that is a recent addition)Perhaps the most important note: I replaced my iMac's optical drive with an SSD, which I am using as my system drive. The original 1TB drive is mounted elsewhere. I installed a fresh copy of Lion onto it.

How do I enter my administrator password in Terminal?

Have an old MBP. Just installed lion on it today. Previously, the computer had no password (at login, I would just hit enter so essentially the password was nothing). After installing Lion, that no longer works, and now I can't get into my computer.

lately, any software that requires me to agree to accept a license and provide my Mac password will not complete the installation.  The window for installtion just returns to previous state of selecting an installation disk Using a MacBook 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, with OS 10.7.4, logged in with an Adminstrator account.Â

I have a new MBP with MacOSX 10.7 I just set it up using the Migration Assistant. The old one was using MacOSX 10.5 with a Time Machine backup on an external USB drive. Everything went fine, restoring all from my Time Machine backup. But now, on the new MBP, I cannot enter in the old TM backup. I can browse it with the finder but not use it through the TM interface. If I chose the disk containing the old TM backup in the TM preference, TM starts a brand new backup. How do I have to proceed to continue using my old backup or almost be able to use it as a former one through the TM interface? Â

In Microsoft Outlook 2011, hitting "Enter" (the tall, vertical, right-most bottom corner button on my numeric keypad) sometimes (but not always) causes an email to be sent, when I wasn't done typing and simply wanted to do a Return. I want to make sure this never happens again, but I'd like the option of hitting the Enter key to go to the next line - can I somehow redefine the Enter key at the OS level so that pressing it always sends a "Return" code to any software (such as Outlook)?

I couldn't enter Time Machine backups, that is, "Enter Time Machine" from the Time Machine menu item did nothing. I tried Postini's recommendations about resetting, repairing the sparsebundle image, and tried accessing with the bundle mounted. Nothing worked.Â
What did work was Time Machine Preferences>Select Disk… and clicking Do Not Back Up. Then a new item appears in the Time Machine menu items: "Browse Other Backup Disks…" Selected that and then selected my backup. And then I was in.Â
My purpose was to delete some large movies that were taking up too much space. I went back to the Finder and opened the folder where the movies had been (I had deleted them in the Finder) then went back to "Browse Other Backup Disks…" and there was the folder in Time Machine. And I deleted the files. I was later able to reselect my Backup disk and the options were still saved. However I haven't seen the space recovered yet. I may have to read more on compressing the disk image if it doesn't fix itself soon. Â

I try and start my computer, it gives the boot sound, comes up to the password screen, accepts the correct password, gives a white screen, then returns to the password screen. I am running Lion 10.7.4Â Any solutions before I call and take it in to Apple?

When installing apps through Installer (from .dmg disk images and .pkg packages), everything works smoothly until it asks me for a password. When I enter it, Installer goes back to the screen before it asked me for the password. When I click next, it asks me for my password, and the cycle repeats. I tried removing my password to no avail. I can install .pkg files from the sudo installer -pkg command. I dont know how to do this for installers that are in app form.

I am unable to "Enter Time Machine" to view previous backups! Time Machine continues to make backups, and I can access other preferences and options but clicking on the Time machine icon in the dock or in the applications folders does nothing!! How do I remedy this - I have repaired permissions but am wondering do I need to reinstall Time Machine? If so how do I reinstall Time machine?

I have a simple Time Machine set up running on an external drive. I can access and open the drive, browse the contents and so on, but when I go to the Time Machine app and click "enter" nothing happens. Nothing at all. Running Disk Utility's repair function reported "incorrect permissions for private directory" which also reported that it was repaired. Running it again it says that the disk is verified. Still, Time Machine will not open when I want to enter.

Yesterday I bought a MacBook white and I am really happy with it.
Anyway, I have a keyboard basic question:
My native language is Spanish and I use the Spanish ISO layout in my computer keyboards; anyway, my new macbook has an English keyboard and, though I changed the keyboard layout to be used as a Spanish one, I did not find a way to enter the backslash. The other characters [including and accented vowels are working properly].
Do you know what key combination must I press to enter the backslash?
I use a program called Coconut battery to monitor the life of the battery. Well on my new MB I noticed that it says the Age of your Mac is 122 months. I have tried to manually enter the serial number but it still says it is 122 months old, thats seven years, in 2004 they were still making the G4's.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a MacBook Air (late 2011 model), along with the Apple Wireless keyboard. The keyboard is a physical AZERTY (French) layout, but I change the mapping to US using the system preferences.  I work in the Terminal a lot, and I can't find the tilde (~) key. When I type where it would be on a US QWERTY layout, the output is the plus-minus (±) sign. When I type Option+N, I get the tilde accent character (˜). Terminal does not interpret the ~ and ˜characters the same.  My question: How can I enter the ~ character from the wireless keyboard? Currently, I reach up to the Air's integrated keyboard and type it there.

my enter button won't work as I'm trying to login. I don't have a password so normally I'd just press the enter button and login right away. But yesterday, I tried pressing enter and nothing happens. I'm certain that the enter key isn't malfunctioning because it's a brand new computer.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a macbook pro 2009. I've barely used the drive. Tried to pop in a disc today and nada ... zilch. The disc won't enter the slot. I don't think any disc is in there, tried ejecting in case.No activity at all. Is it rigor mortis and a trip to the Genius Pub ? Any way to check if my drive has silently passed away. I had to replace my white macbook's drive last year so I'm starting to think they're all a bit c**p.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy MacBook Pro (running OS X 10.6.2) suddenly does not respond when the "Enter" key on my external Apple keyboard is pressed. All the other keys work fine. I'm using the Apple low-profile keyboard with numeric keypad--here's a link to it at the Apple Store.
The problem doesn't appear to be with the keyboard; I've plugged it into another MacBook (running the same OS), and the Enter key works fine.
In Windows I use <alt><enter>, but that doesn't work on my MacBook.
