OS X Mavericks :: MacBook Pro Fan Constantly Running?
Jun 26, 2014For a couple of days the fan of my (15" late 2011) MacBook Pro has been constantly running and the Mac has become sluggish. The CPU temperature is 156 °F. It seems that the problem would be caused by "coreservicesd" process taking a huge percentage (57%) of the Mac RAM.
I am running OS X 10.9.3 with 8 Go. RAM and 500 Go. HD

Jun 3, 2014I have a 13" MacBook Pro Mid 2012 model. Specs: Processor 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7, Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Graphics Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB, Software OS X 10.9.2 (13C64). A couple months ago I went to turn on my computer and I had a blinking folder with a question mark. I diagnosed the problem as a burned out SATA cable. I looked up the serial number of the cable I needed to order, ordered it, and in a couple weeks it arrived. After installing the new cable, I turned on my computer, and voila, no more blinking folder.
However, I noticed that the fan was really loud. Once logged in, I noticed the displays were laggy, and all video I tried to watch was very choppy. I decided to download iStat menus to see what was going on with my computer. Once I checked it, it showed that the cpu was 100% clogged up with 0% on idle. But the crazy part is that 89% of the CPU's tasks showed up as system, and under system, mainly kernal_task.
I restarted my computer, resetted the PRAM (which every once in a while would work regarding the clogged CPU but never the fan), but nothing has worked. Before this problem I was editing video projects for my broadcasting class on Premiere Pro with minor lag spikes. Now, I cannot even render a 5 second clip. I was reading somewhere that my heat sensor may be out, causing the fan to run, but I didnt know if that causes my CPU to clog up...

MacBook Air :: It Constantly Freezing Up
Apr 8, 2012The MacBook Air that I purchased a month ago, freezes up on me constantly. I've researched various forums, and some are stating that this could be due to the system overheating. I really do not believe this is the case with my MacBook Air, as I rarely use it. I only use it for traveling (I write for a living) and every time I use it, it freezes. It is not hot when it freezes.
I could be working on a document or just browsing the Internet and all of a sudden, the cursor and track pad stop working. Sometimes it's ok and when done, I close the lid, or put it in sleep mode. However, when I return to open the system, my track pad, cursor, everything freezes again! I literally have to shut it down with the power key (not even the apple/quit keys work) and reboot the system. Another flaw is that the darn thing will reboot, but I cannot log it (mouse / cursor still don't work). Therefore, it takes bout 4 reboots to engage it again.
I'm at my wits end. I've had this thing to the Apple Store twice and they always say "I've never heard of this happening" and after extensive troubleshooting, I walk away without any resolution. To say that they have never heard of this issue is astounding to me, because the more I research this issue on the Internet, I'm finding more and more complaints. I will also say that this is my SECOND MacAir in one month. I had the same issue with the first one I purchased (after only one week), and returned it to BestBuy for a brand new replacement. I thought it was a fluke. Guess again ... same issue with this one.After all these years, I decided to take the plunge and get an Apple, but I must admit, I feel completely burned. $1200.00 for a laptop and I can barely use it. I'm sick over the entire thing. I will never buy another Apple again.

MacBook Pro :: 13 Freezing Constantly - Freezes On Reboot?
Jul 24, 2009Recently my 13 inch MBP has been freezing a lot. It seems similar to the 1.7 firmware problem many are reporting, but from what I can tell from their posts the freezing only lasts 15-30 seconds then they can work again. On my computer the freezing does not stop and I am forced to hold the power button to shutdown every time. When I attempt to reboot the computer after that I have to reset the PRAM every time.
I am using a 3rd party hard drive that worked fine up until a little less than a week ago, and also worked fine in my old plastic white macbook. When I put the stock hard drive back in it seems to work fine, but I admittedly haven't used it as extensively and not all of my apps are installed, but most of my freezing occurs in safari as well sometimes itunes.If anyone knows how to downgrade firmware back to 1.6 I would try that as well, but I am not sure if that is possible.

Mar 30, 2012in the middle of april 2010 I bought a MacBook Pro core i7, everything works fine but after install Mac OS X Lion the machine is freezing with Photoshop, iphoto, Youtube, Safari and the login screen, anothers times show a lots of color in the display and freezing again.To fix all this issues, I was reset the PRAM, SMC, reinstall Lion after format the HD, etc. Nothing works and make an appointment in genius bar, I show to them this article url...and they tell me that my machine is not elegible for the warranty because the problems are differents.

MacBook :: Safari Browser Is Freezing Constantly?
Dec 2, 2014I have the 2013 15 inch retina Macbook Pro and I have been having a problem with it lately. Whenever I use safari, my browser is freezing constantly. Its is only when I use safari, not any other applications, such as Microsoft word. Normally, I wouldn't consider this a big issue, but it gets worse. When I don't navigate on my computer and let it rest for a minute or so (while running safari and sometimes other applications) this screen pops up:
I have not dropped my computer, nor done anything to cause any damage to it.

Intel Mac :: Running Constantly Hot - Changed The Hard Drive But It Is Running Hot?
Mar 5, 2012I've had an iMac for just about a year and over time I guess I just didn't notice but the machine always ran very quietly. At the same time the back of the computer would heat up so bad that it would nearly burn my hand if I left it there. Well last week I decided to upgrade to Lion from Snow Leopard and when I did the install failed and froze up the hard drive. I took the computer in to the apple store and they determined that it had to have a new hard drive installed because the old one (only a year old) had a physical malfunction (was broke). So anyway I have my iMac back and get it started up, backed up from time machine, and then finally get Lion istalled - and now all of the sudden I notice that the fans in the computer are CONSTANTLY blowing - I can hear them spinning and can hear the air venting out of the back of the computer - and the computer is STILL really hot on the backside of the screen. Â
So now I am wondering if the originial problem was the computer heating up and if that may have broken the otherwise good hard drive? Also now that I have a new hard drive - should I be concerned about the fans being on ALL the time? I mean they never go off. Even when I leave the computer for hours and come back to it and the screen is asleep the fans are STILL buzzing away at top speed. Here is the stats on the computer at the time that I'm typing this note - there are no other programs running than Firefox and Mail. Also - I don't know what the optical drive is exaclty - but if it's the DVD drive (superdrive) - there is nothing in the DVD disc driveÂ

Apr 21, 2012All I'm trying to do as add a few playlists to my iPad 2...When it's connected through either Wi-Fi or USB, while I'm trying to manage any of my iPads settings, iTunes completely freezes after EVERY mouse-click. Example:I click on my iPad in the iTunes sidebar ..."Spinning Beach-ball" for several seconds.I click on the "Music" tab at the top ..."Spinning Beach-ball" for another minute or two.I check one playlist ..."Spinning Beach-ball" for 5 minutes!!! (...not exaggerating.)I finally click "Sync" or "Apply" ...more "Spinning Beach-ball"!It finally starts to sync ..."Spinning Beach-ball" periodically every few minutes.In the end, the sync cancels itself before it's ever even put the new music on the device!!iTunes completely freezes and I have to force quit!!! As usual, I've tried everything I know how to do, short of witchcraft and bashing things with a large hammer!!! I've restarted both the iPad and computer, completely wiped and restored the iPad (at least twice since this issue arose), reinstalled iTunes, screamed at the top of my lungs, and rebuilt my iTunes library from scratch (which I can't do again for another 90 days, as I have iTunes Match activated). Also, this only seems to happen with my devices using my iTunes library. Using the exact same install of iTunes on the same user, I can open an alternate iTunes library (with a different music collection) and sync my sisters iPad and iPod with no problems. Now, before I bring it into the Apple Store to have it looked at I just want to check and see if maybe I'm just being overly picky. I downloaded iStat, based on some Google searching I did on the subject and my fans are running around 2000 rpm, which I understand is normal. But in my apartment, which is admittedly quiet, I can hear my fan running constantly. It isn't extremely loud, but it isn't totally quiet either. I'm just wondering what level of noise I should reasonably expect out of my Macbook.

Mar 23, 2012The fan is almost constantly running, it shouldn't be. The Activity monitor at the moment is showing that 45% of CPU is idle. About a third of my drive is free. I have 500 Gb of SSD, so there are no moving disk heads. The screen is turned up to a level I want to work with. I am running the regular stuff -- Word, Firefox, Mail and other Apple apps, all usual stuff. The MBP sits on a clear glass desk so heat can disburse through the glass, but the fan is still running. The MBP is about two years old. Lion.

Apr 8, 2012I currently have a 13 inch MBP early 2011 notebook that has a fan running constantly. The fans are not making horrendous noises indicating that the fan is broken or that a foreign object is bouncing around in my computer, but more so you can just hear the fans operating especially in a quiet room. The sound is very soft but in a dead silent room you can hear it working, you can even make out the sound even while typing. I am pretty sure my computer isn't broken, nor have I downloaded anything I am not supposed to that would allow my fans to make the noise. I bought this computer on the 26th of December and all I am using it for is simply MS word and logic pro 9. I uninstalled logic pro 9 a month ago due to my family buying an iMac and even then I can still hear the fan moving. I am curious as to what you all think, I may just bring it into the Apple store because it's quite frustrating having to write a paper and all you can hear is the sound of the fan working. My fans are running at 2000rpm and my research tells me that that number is normal.

Jun 21, 2012I am having a huge issue with my wireless dropping once connected to my MacBook Pro (Model A1278) 13.3". Wireless connections are not dropping on my iPad/Laptops/Iphone. Running Leopard 10.6.8 and have updated everything. It started about a month ago and is inconsistent in terms of how long I stay connected, but never more than 10mins. Luckily I run an SSD and can reboot in 10seconds.

MacBook Pro :: Fan Constantly Running At 6000 RPM Majority Of Time
Jun 17, 2014Over the past two weeks my MacBook Pro has been regularly having issues with the fan constantly running at 6000 RPM after being on for about half an hour on most days and sometimes shorter or longer. originally i thought the problem was in relation to a kernel process as it started running at 300% around the same time however after fixing that issue by removing the model identifier from ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext/contents/resources and having the fans cleaned out the issue is still occuring.
i have tried a partial and full restore of the system as well as a fresh install on a new hard drive however both the kernel and the fan problem reappears with each step taken. while the kernel problem is easily solved i was wondering if the fix was causing the fan issue to continue due to the file deleted or if there is a underlying software / hardware problem due to this problem persisting through restores and clean installs.
At this moment the fan seems to be running okay however for the past few days after a short while the fan started reaching 6000RPM with no tasks running and i am not convinced that the problem has been solved as nothing has been done to the machine since yesterday.

Oct 24, 2009I need the thoughts and advice from your seasoned Mac people - I have 2 MBP's - 1 15" aluminum, one last years model 17" Unibody (with Black around screen). The 15 has run great since day one. The 17" was ok, but now is locking up and causing me to reboot, fans seem to run on high all the time, and it is very slow to react while using the OS, it gets worse until it locks up. I have upgrade to Snow Leopard thinking that that might fix it, but it has not.
When I got it, I restored from the back up of my 15" using carbon copy cloner. I only imported users and data such as pictures and music. Do you guys think that this is a hardware issue or a or should I back all my stuff up and then blow everything away and reinstall from the ground up with a fresh SL install?
When I called apple they tried to sell me apple care and told me that it was out of the full warranty and if I send it I would to pay for what was not under warranty. SO I am hoping that someone has seen this and has a fix that I can do without having to take it in.
