I had this MB for over a year now, It was running at a avg temperature of 50 C, but recently it's getting hotter and hotter, now it's running at 70 Celsius constantly if i do not increase the fan speed.
View 3 RepliesI need the thoughts and advice from your seasoned Mac people - I have 2 MBP's - 1 15" aluminum, one last years model 17" Unibody (with Black around screen). The 15 has run great since day one. The 17" was ok, but now is locking up and causing me to reboot, fans seem to run on high all the time, and it is very slow to react while using the OS, it gets worse until it locks up. I have upgrade to Snow Leopard thinking that that might fix it, but it has not.
When I got it, I restored from the back up of my 15" using carbon copy cloner. I only imported users and data such as pictures and music. Do you guys think that this is a hardware issue or a or should I back all my stuff up and then blow everything away and reinstall from the ground up with a fresh SL install?
When I called apple they tried to sell me apple care and told me that it was out of the full warranty and if I send it I would to pay for what was not under warranty. SO I am hoping that someone has seen this and has a fix that I can do without having to take it in.
I intended to bring my computer in for service, but since the issues weren't a big deal, I postponed it as long as possible (I'm a professional DJ preforming with Traktor Scratch Pro and Ableton) I also own a previous generation Macbook Pro used for school stuff. This one is in the shop because a friend of mine sat on it and broke the keyboard.Now, whilst preforming last week, my Unibody froze during playing (never happend before). Had to push the power button for 5 sec., you know the drill. I thought this happened because I used my computer for school stuff the other week (installed adobe creative suite, iwork and stuff like that).
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had an iMac for just about a year and over time I guess I just didn't notice but the machine always ran very quietly. At the same time the back of the computer would heat up so bad that it would nearly burn my hand if I left it there. Well last week I decided to upgrade to Lion from Snow Leopard and when I did the install failed and froze up the hard drive. I took the computer in to the apple store and they determined that it had to have a new hard drive installed because the old one (only a year old) had a physical malfunction (was broke). So anyway I have my iMac back and get it started up, backed up from time machine, and then finally get Lion istalled - and now all of the sudden I notice that the fans in the computer are CONSTANTLY blowing - I can hear them spinning and can hear the air venting out of the back of the computer - and the computer is STILL really hot on the backside of the screen. Â
So now I am wondering if the originial problem was the computer heating up and if that may have broken the otherwise good hard drive? Also now that I have a new hard drive - should I be concerned about the fans being on ALL the time? I mean they never go off. Even when I leave the computer for hours and come back to it and the screen is asleep the fans are STILL buzzing away at top speed. Here is the stats on the computer at the time that I'm typing this note - there are no other programs running than Firefox and Mail. Also - I don't know what the optical drive is exaclty - but if it's the DVD drive (superdrive) - there is nothing in the DVD disc driveÂ

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've just bought a second hand macbook pro, the battery is dead which is easy to replace i guess but worse the fans are running constantly at around 6000rpm.I've tried resetting the smc and pram but that hasn't helped.I tried to run the hardware diagnosis but that freezes when it gets up to testing the logic board and i have to pull the power adapter to turn machine off.I only have the second of the two install dvds and machine is running os x 10.5.8

I've just purchased a new Macbook. I'm very happy with it aside from the fan noise, which seems a little loud to me. Now, before I bring it into the Apple Store to have it looked at I just want to check and see if maybe I'm just being overly picky. I downloaded iStat, based on some Google searching I did on the subject and my fans are running around 2000 rpm, which I understand is normal. But in my apartment, which is admittedly quiet, I can hear my fan running constantly. It isn't extremely loud, but it isn't totally quiet either. I'm just wondering what level of noise I should reasonably expect out of my Macbook.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe fan is almost constantly running, it shouldn't be. The Activity monitor at the moment is showing that 45% of CPU is idle. About a third of my drive is free. I have 500 Gb of SSD, so there are no moving disk heads. The screen is turned up to a level I want to work with. I am running the regular stuff -- Word, Firefox, Mail and other Apple apps, all usual stuff. The MBP sits on a clear glass desk so heat can disburse through the glass, but the fan is still running. The MBP is about two years old. Lion.

I have a 13" MacBook Pro Mid 2012 model. Specs: Processor 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7, Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Graphics Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB, Software OS X 10.9.2 (13C64). A couple months ago I went to turn on my computer and I had a blinking folder with a question mark. I diagnosed the problem as a burned out SATA cable. I looked up the serial number of the cable I needed to order, ordered it, and in a couple weeks it arrived. After installing the new cable, I turned on my computer, and voila, no more blinking folder.
However, I noticed that the fan was really loud. Once logged in, I noticed the displays were laggy, and all video I tried to watch was very choppy. I decided to download iStat menus to see what was going on with my computer. Once I checked it, it showed that the cpu was 100% clogged up with 0% on idle. But the crazy part is that 89% of the CPU's tasks showed up as system, and under system, mainly kernal_task.
I restarted my computer, resetted the PRAM (which every once in a while would work regarding the clogged CPU but never the fan), but nothing has worked. Before this problem I was editing video projects for my broadcasting class on Premiere Pro with minor lag spikes. Now, I cannot even render a 5 second clip. I was reading somewhere that my heat sensor may be out, causing the fan to run, but I didnt know if that causes my CPU to clog up...

its wierd, its 60 degrees celsium and 2300rpm fans (without any smc fan manglers) just FRESHLY rebooted, and completely CLEAN install! without anything. odesnt matter if its 10.5 or 10.6.
it used to be 44 degrees and 1800rpm fans! and 40 degrees with 2000rpm fans on 10.5. .
Recently my cooling fan has been running at what sounds like full speed and never resumes a quiet speed. I have not used it any differently than I have since I bought it (in January) and have not really added anything to it in the way of downloads.

The fans are not making horrendous noises indicating that the fan is broken or that a foreign object is bouncing around in my computer, but more so you can just hear the fans operating especially in a quiet room. The sound is very soft but in a dead silent room you can hear it working, you can even make out the sound even while typing. I am pretty sure my computer isn't broken, nor have I downloaded anything I am not supposed to that would allow my fans to make the noise. I bought this computer on the 26th of December and all I am using it for is simply MS word and logic pro 9. I uninstalled logic pro 9 a month ago due to my family buying an iMac and even then I can still hear the fan moving. I am curious as to what you all think, I may just bring it into the Apple store because it's quite frustrating having to write a paper and all you can hear is the sound of the fan working. My fans are running at 2000rpm and my research tells me that that number is normal.

The last couple of days my battery has been draining extremely quickly, at full charge it indicates that I will get about 2 hours battery life when previously I was getting 6 to 7 depending on what I was doing. I am having a huge issue with my wireless dropping once connected to my MacBook Pro (Model A1278) 13.3". Wireless connections are not dropping on my iPad/Laptops/Iphone. Running Leopard 10.6.8 and have updated everything. It started about a month ago and is inconsistent in terms of how long I stay connected, but never more than 10mins. Luckily I run an SSD and can reboot in 10seconds.

Over the past two weeks my MacBook Pro has been regularly having issues with the fan constantly running at 6000 RPM after being on for about half an hour on most days and sometimes shorter or longer. originally i thought the problem was in relation to a kernel process as it started running at 300% around the same time however after fixing that issue by removing the model identifier from ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext/contents/resources and having the fans cleaned out the issue is still occuring.
i have tried a partial and full restore of the system as well as a fresh install on a new hard drive however both the kernel and the fan problem reappears with each step taken. while the kernel problem is easily solved i was wondering if the fix was causing the fan issue to continue due to the file deleted or if there is a underlying software / hardware problem due to this problem persisting through restores and clean installs.
At this moment the fan seems to be running okay however for the past few days after a short while the fan started reaching 6000RPM with no tasks running and i am not convinced that the problem has been solved as nothing has been done to the machine since yesterday.

I'm looking to run two extra screens off of my unibody 15" MBP while still using the screen on the notebook itself for intensive video-editing between FCP and the adobe series. I understand the maximum resolution the mini-dvi port can handle is 1920x1200--no problem. Now, does the maximum resolution change at all if I am running two external monitors (one using the mini DVI port and the other using a USB port via VGA/DVI adaptor to USB).
Can the graphics card handle running three screens at once along with FCP,After Effects, and Illustrator? Can the USB port also push 1920x1200? Or does the USB port on the MBP (I understand each adapter can have different capacities) have a different limit? Or is that 1920x1200 limit the maximum a sole mini-DVI cord can push? You might just say, hey buy a 30" ACD and use the usb/mini-dvi ports to run that at an even GREATER resolution. But alas, I cannot afford to do that yet.
I've got MacBook Unibody 2GHz and if my charge ratio is 1 charge/1 day how long my battery will work - is it countable?

CHecked processes and it shows that it is in fact doing so, even with no open applications. Not sure where to look or how to fix it. SLowing down my computer as well.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy PowerMac's (G5 Dual 1.8GHz procs) fans seem to run at a solid 4k rpm's regardless of what I'm doing, even with CPU usage set to low. I've taken the whole machine apart, cleaning it with canned air and such, but the problem just won't leave me be. The air coming out of the machine is ice cold, and the temperature readings I'm getting are about 86 degrees F for the CPU's and 70 for the HDD, so I'm not sure what gives.. Slot and Backside fans are running at 255 rpm, but the others are all 4k.

Got my new MacBook Pro - I'm used to Mac as I have had iMac & the smaller MacBook for about 6 years so fairly user savvy, but have never come across the problem I have at the moment. Set up my mail accounts - received and sent mails, but the whole time the little gearwheel is running on the sent box. Is this normal - I've never had it before unless I've actually been sending and at the moment I'm not.

I have 32 GB memory, 113 GB hard disk capacity and it has never been slower in its life. There is a process called "bird" that is running almost constantly whenever I run Activity Monitor and it is taking up to 140% of CPU time. What is "bird"? Why is it running constantly and eating up so much CPU time? Why is my iMac so slow running Mac OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite?Â
Other issues on my iMac include: Software Update is supposed to be updating and installing updates automatically and it is not. When I log in, I see a blank white screen with an apple logo and a progress bar below. It takes forever for the progress bar to get 1/4 of the way across, then the screen flashes and the progress bar finishes the remaining 3/4 really fast. And then once logged in, it takes forever for my dock icons to appear, and my iMac hard drive is chattering like crazy even though nothing is running yet. Whenever I launch Safari I get a progress bar in the address field that goes 1/3 of the way across and frequently hangs. All of these issues never happened before Mac OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite.
