MacBook Pro :: Can Use It In Australia Without A Power Converter
Mar 14, 2012
I do know that the standard north American plug will not fit the outlet in Australia/New Zealand, but do I need to use a 220V to 110V poser converter? My Apple 85W MagSafe Power supply is labeled, 110-240~1.5A 50-60Hz. Or can I get away with [URL]?
I have a IBM Deskstar ATA/IDE hard drive, model DTLA-305040 that came out of a Power Mac G4 (Quicksilver) whose power supply died. I'm trying to install the hard drive in the open bay of a Power Mac G5 9,1 - A1093 with a 1.8 GHz processor, which (I think/guess) takes a SATA hard drive. Is there a cable I can use to make the hard drive "compatible" inside the G5? Or would it be better to just get a cable to access the hard drive externally, copy the data off it and then be done with the old hard drive? It's pretty old and apparently these IBM Deskstar drives had a lot of issues.
Info: Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4), Model 5,1/2.4 GHz/8 core (mid 2010)
I was doing a little searching on Google and came across this:

Looks like it's an ethernet to Firewire 400/USB adapter. Anybody ever actually used one? Could this be the solution to the lack of Firewire on the new MB?
Could you please check if I have all the cables necessary to hook up my Macbook Pro 17" to this Vizio monitor? I got the mini display port to HDMI converter, and an HDMI cable. Is there anything else I need or do you have recommendations for a different brand? I am buying a Vizio 25.5" monitor: [URL]. Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter: [URL]. High Speed HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Certified CL2 Rated (In-Wall Installation) Cable (24AWG) w/ Net Jacket - 8ft (Gold Plated Connectors): [URL]
I know that I will need to get a Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter and then run that output through a PC to TV Converter.
A converter like this one states that it only supports 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 display modes. If the converter is outputting a 1024x768 then I guess I'm going to have to stretch the screen and thus I will loose some quality, right?
I have been using a yamaha UX16 converter for a few years as my MIDI converter. I recently bought a new MacBook Pro (10.7.4) and I went through the process of downloading drivers. A light comes on in the device, but I can't get my keyboard to communicate with my laptop (going into Albeton_Live) at all.
Im in England currently (From the USA) and am using a "DYNEX" converter adapter to switch the electric current down so I can plug in/charge my Macbook Pro and iPad. It works, however the charger buzzes pretty loudly and gets hot. I brought two, one started smelling like melted plastic and stopped charging altogether. That particular charger has faulted at home before (back in the USA), so I'm not sure if it died because of the converter or because it's just faulty.
I have plugged in the newer charger and it also buzzes, but I'm really worried to keep it plugged in because I don't want it to fault out too. Is it normal for it to buzz like that when plugged into a converter adapter?
I recently purchased and Mini-Display to HDMI converter, which connects to an HDMI to HDMI cable which connects to my television. The video is working fine, but for some reason audio isn't working at all.
I want to run a hdmi signal over a long distance and was going to use a cat5 cable but can't find a mini displayport to cat5 converter or a hdmi to cat5 converter. I'm not sure this is even possible, but don't know why it wouldn't be because you can stream HD content over the internet using cat5. And a long cat5 cable is a lot cheaper than hdmi cables and extenders.
Anyone know where I can buy an extra AC cable for the MagSafe 85W power supply that came with my late 08 MBP? I'd like an extra cable and I'm not interested in ponying up the dough for the entire power supply. I checked the Apple Store and Macmall, but haven't found anything as of yet.
Last Thursday I down loaded software updates from apple and have been losing power very quickly ever since. It just seems like as soon as I remove the power cord I lose power with in three minutes.
I've been suffering of slow speed on my macbook pro, and this happens when I unplug it from power and just let the battery works itself, then the % CPU usage increases dramatically to 330% and the laptop becomes very very slow, what should I do? Because if my macbook is off-power, it doesn't work properly, so what is the point to own a portable computer?
i need an .avi converter so i can use my video files on quicktime, i have a samsung camera that saves its files in .avi, i have a video playback for .avi, but i need a converter so i can use the files in iMovie.
I use WMA MP3 Converter on Windows to convert audio books I download from the Library to remove the DRM 2 week restriction so I can play them on my iPod without date restriction. I am new to the Mac and cannot find an application that does the same. Is anyone aware of one that will do this? It is unique in that it removes the DRM fairly quickly.
I also use a free application MP3 to Audio Book Converter to merge the converted files to bookmarkable format.
I use MBP (late 2011). I find the hunderbolt port to be similar to the mini-display port of older mac. I wish to have another display, but not ready to spend $999 over a thunderbolt display from mac. So would like to know if a Mini-diaplay port converter from apple would help me connect a exernal display via the thunderbolt port?
I have an HD MOV file I'd like to burn to a DVD with subtitles. I made a DVD in iDVD but obviously iDVD doesn't support .srt. I had the idea of replacing the separate episodes (I'm burning a series) with my own VOB files I made with different software. That way I could have my soft subtitles. But FFMPEGX won't work; I've tried nearly everything but there's this huge problem with the framerate which makes it basically unwatchable. Note that I live in Europe so this DVD should be PAL. The files have 23.98 FPS and I need to go to 25 for it to work in a DVD player. What's the best software for this kind of thing?
I just replaced my Apple 24" LED that was running on my older Mac Pro via a Gefen dvi/miniport display converter with a new Apple 27" LED. Unfortunately the Gefen doesn't work with the 27".
I am looking to see if it is possible to convert video formats on the Mac to put onto the Ipod. I did a google search and found iSkysoft Video Converter.
I used to have a program that could convert lots of things (audio, files etc), after a restore I have lost this program, which I didn't use very often so I can't remember its name!
All I know was that the icon had a picture of a camel (?!)
I have a USB to serial converter. I don't know the manufacturer but found something on the internet that looked like it so I downloaded their driver.
Now (I'm new to a Mac) I need to see if it works.
1) Is there a way to display all of the devices in a GUI such that I can identify the com port? (I did "ls /dev" and I see ttys0, etc (about 20 or so)) 2) I need to know which tty the converter belongs to. How do I do that? 3) Once I identify it, how do I set the serial parameters?
