I have 4 hard drives connected to my AirPort Extreme and reading from them is no problem, but when I try to write to them I get the attached error. How do I change the permissions t make this work properly?

So around last week my airport has been giving me some problems first of all it allows me to connect to my airdisk for about 30 min, then after 30 min when I click it to use I get this error (Connection Failed)(The server �Airport� may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.)
Im really confused it always worked without a problem and now I get this the way to fix it is to restart my airport but then after like 30 min I get the same error.. Its also impossible to do time machine backups as well unless I restart the router a bunch of time.
I've been changing the permissions on some of my folders and files in my normal user account so they can be accessed and changed by another account. Problem is, I have a program that saves new files into a particular folder. When it saves the new file, the permissions are the default, meaning I have to change them myself in order to make them writeable by the new account. So my first question is - is there a way to make my first user account always save files with a set of permissions that I specify?
My next question is - what should these permissions be? Both of the accounts are admin accounts. Should I therefore set group to be 'admin' and give rwx permissions to the group? Or is it possible to set owner to 'admin'? Can a file be owned by a group? Looking forward to your answers! This UNIX stuff is fun!
My macbook pro has been acting weird for a week or so. I'll be on the internet and then it will randomly shut down safari or google chrome and send an error report message. This also just started happening with my iPhoto and iTunes as well. Sometimes my computer will just shut off completely and restart with a message saying there was a problem and it had to shut down. It seems like there is some bug or maybe a third party add on I need to get off?

I recently had a large hard drive crash, and, long story short, I got all my data back but now have a different user account on a new hard drive. The permissions on all the files on the computer are fine.Â
However, I am a recently graduated film student and use an external drive to edit video. When I tried to open up Final Cut Pro and work on a project, I was told that the program couldn't work because I didn't have "write" access to my scratch drives. I changed the permissions on the relevant folders and can now open the application fine, but can't actually edit because ALL the medi files don't give me full read/write access.Â
I can change them all one at a time, which requires I enter my password for each one, but this would take a few days of work to complete.  My question is: how can I add my user account with read/write permission to many files at once? I've heard this can be done with Terminal, but I'm not sure how.   Â

my wife was backing up her photos to our USB stick when suddenly she gets this warning...Just before she had been trying to copy some photos, but the computer didn't allow that, probably some photos were corrupted. I however found those photos on the USB stick, but they are grayed out.I can still open everything else on the stick, and copy from the stick to the desktop, but I can't delete those photos from the stick, trash simply says they can't be deleted. So I decided to simply reformat the stick. However, when I try and erase it, I get this warning
I cannot verify the permissions nor the disk, and I can't repair either, the tabs are simply grayed out. So I decided to check on the permissions on the stick, and suddenly it is in read-only mode, and I can't change it. The lock on the bottom and the droptab won't appear..I tried using google to find a solution and someone pointed out a terminal command, but everything there seemed in order.. I suddenly can only read the Volume, and nothing else, and I can't format nor repair it! I bought this stick very recently, and I want to try everything before I pick up my wallet for a new one! The problem started on my wifes 2012 MacBook Air, and still persists on my late 2011 MacBook Pro. We both have Mavericks.

I am letting it do its thing but im curius as to what this error is and why its taking so long in the utility. I see in some other postings that sometimes it te signs of a bad drive and sometimes not. it is the Toshiba 750GB drive.
View 7 Replies View RelatedOn the Get Info tab of my Applications folder I changed the permissions so that I have all the read and write rights of the whole folder. The it somehow changed to Name: system, and the Privilege: Read and Write. I didn't know that I was NEVER supposed to do that until I googled the issue. I googled a lot, and most of the solutions says that I need my mac DVD. I am currently in North Africa visiting my parents, and my Disks are back home. I tried many things, but the more I try, the more I seem to mess up my macbook. I have a macbook white with Mac OS X 10.5.8. Some suggest to go to Terminal, and use chown -R, but as soon as I open Terminal, i get the following:

I keep getting the following error message when attempting to sync my contacts, calendar, and bookmarks with my iPhone. When I check these under the "info" tab and ciick apply, the following error message appears:
iTunes cannot sync information with the iPhone because syncing has been disabled on this computer. Do you want to enable syncing? If you do not enable syncing, iTunes will not be able to sync contacts, calendars, bookmarks or mail accounts to your iPhone.
When I click yes, the following prompt appears:
*Syncing cannot be enable on this compute*r. The options I'm presented with are:
override and Ok.
When I click override, it takes away my selections to sync contacts, calendars, etc.
I have never disabled syncing. I've looked through system and iTunes preferences and can't even find an option to disable/enable syncing.
I'm attempting to setup up MobileMe and need to get this problem resolved.
I am trying to upgrade my old Mac from 10.3.9 to 10.4. I have 10.4.0 and 10.4.2. With 10.4.0 it goes to all the dialog and then goes to verifying disk, after a long while, it says error verifyiing disk, try again.
the 10.4.2 it gives a inmediate message "cannot perform an upgrade in this computer.
My hard drive crashed. bought new computer..... have backup dvd's........... it seems to freeze itune....... but if I leave it alone it will give me an error that says it is unable to restore because of error -69..... some of my songs are restored but only like 100 out of 700.......and I have the shuffle, nano, and Itouch..... very headachey.

When pressing the start button, the fans spin to the max endlessly, most of the time the screen stays black without the Apple chime and computer doesn't start. After three times of shutting it down, it usually starts but performance isn't quite the same and i immediately get this error.

I use Adium 1.3.10 which normally could send message to offline user and my ex-girlfriend use Adium as well but I dont know which version. I sent really important message to my ex-girlfriend while she is offline and TWO HOURS later this message pop up to me.
"Message was not sent because the system is unavailable. This normally happens when the user is blocked or does not exist." But I did not block her and she does exist So I'm not sure she will receive this message or not. the strange thing that I worry is it was bounced TWO HOURS LATER AFTER I SENT IT,Has anyone experienced this case??? What I really am worry is the message will be sent to her or not?
I'm using darwine and trying to use a PC application and the software requires me to login but I can't because "Error: OLE Error 8000402 " pops up.

I am using the Apple Mail application on both machines for my [url].. address.I migrated to iCloud (Mail Only Option) on thursday 6/28 and changed my mail server settings in Tiger on my G5 iMac according to Roger Wilmut's instructions today 7/1. I have yet to do this on my MacBook Pro running 10.6.8.

System tries to log in, then gives me the error message "invalid username/password." I can't find a "forgot password" link or otherwise change the password. If I try Mac mail I get "system timed out." I can use webmail to get password but not Entourage or Mac Mail.

I have now bought a new imac 20" iMac OS X 10.5.3 and although it installs, it will not open and a message appears "An unexpected and unrecoverable problem has occurred because of a program error. Photoshop will now exit." No explanation or help offered. I have tried downloading other versions but no success. Having now retired I use photoshop a lot to produce fun cards for the grandchildren and a Newsletter.

I have a large music library that I have amassed over the years, but when I began ripping CDs there was no artwork on the iPod so it didn't matter, but now it would be nice to have it. I purchased a program called coverscout that finds artwork and automatically attaches it to the songs, but I have a problem. Somehow I have made every song read only. The program can't write the artwork to the tracks unless I change each one to rw. I tried to change just the directory, but that doesn't work.
Is there a terminal command to change all files in a directory to read/write? Just for your information all the songs are organized in a folder called music then subfolder of the artist and then a subfolder to that of the albums. It would be great to just change it all and then when I'm done change it back to read only.
i have a problem that everytime i restart my imac (late 2007) i get the blinking folder for 15 minutes up to a couple of hours then it starts up normally. i tried clearing up the PRAM. reset the SMC. and it still happens.i tried to do from the system a repair disc permissions and i got back one error that cannot be fixed which was

i have even tried to fix the error from the bootable CD, but same error. i even upgraded to snow leopard but no apparent change. i dont even know if this is the cause of the problem. but all other stuff is OK. even the boot CD hardware thorough check was all ok.i still get some noise of the fan when i boot up for a couple of minutes then it goes away.but temperatures are quite good and fan speed is around 800rpm at the moment and no sound is to be heard.
I can keep pressing repair permissions and it keeps coming up with the same problems. Is this normal?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a new image from a DVD and burn it to a new DVD using the MAC Disk Utility "New Image" option. The source DVD is 4 G and my target folder is on my external HD which has 298G.. plenty of space. However, whenever I attempt to SAVE the existing DVD to my external HD, I am getting the error message that the file is too large. I have tried the parameter for "Image Format" of both 'Read Only' and 'DVD/CD Master' and neither of them work. My "Encryption" setting is 'None'.
View 7 Replies View RelatedOn a Mac OS X 10.4.11. laptop. ISP provider is Comcast. Have successfully been sending and receiving emails at home no problem using Entourage for two years. Have now taken laptop to visit away from home and clicked into the host's house wifi system - AT&T u-vers.
Entourage will now receive but not send emails. Receive 3259 error message about timing out. However, can send fine by going to Comcast's site, therefore Comcast insists this is not their problem but an Entourage problem, probably with settings.
Every time I try and get on Safari it loads my homepage and then just quits. It gives me the error message that Safari and unexpectedly quit and gives me the options of sending an error report to Mac, closing, or reopening the page. This is the first time it has done this before, but in the past week it has done it every time I have tried to get online.
