Old Dvd's will play, But most New Dvd's will not play. I insert them and it revs up like they are loading then it kicks them out. Sometimes I can put an older dvd in to get it started and then I can eject the older dvd and then insert a new one and it will then play.

My Macbook pro will not play CDs/DVDs at all anymore. Every time I insert a CD or DVD it will accept it but then it will make odd noises and eject the CD/DVD. Is there anything I can do at home to try to solve it before I run to the apple store?

I purchased a Macbook a couple of weeks ago as I am currently traveling and needed a laptop bad. This evening I put a DVD in and it wouldn't play. It didn't even read anything.I then tried a number of variable CDs and the same thing happened. This macbook isn't even one month old and is in perfect condition. Is this just pure bad look and the laser has broken before it was even put to use?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy MacBook Pro plays DVDs with movies on, but no CDs with music, or DVDs with software on them. It just makes a noise for about 30 seconds, then spits them out. What do I do? I know there's a lot about this issue already on the forums/the internet, but I've never come across a fix. I didn't buy my MacBook directly from Apple. Will they still fix it if I pay them?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an old DVD custom made from old super - 8 home movies. It plays well in a home DVD player meant to plug into the TV. My MBP 15" mid-2010 8x SuperDrive optical drive cannot play this - on calling up the files to be played, I see a folder with grayed-out files. Furthermore, I can't get out of the DVD player easily and have to do the Force Quit to shut down the program and use Disc Utility to eject the disc. (I use Disc Utility to dismount all types of discs, by habit). My SuperDrive works fine for commercial DVD movies, reading and writing CDs, etc. The "home movies" DVD's file extensions are: .vob, .ifo, .bup. The "home movie" files are:
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOBÂ and so on for the chapters
Do I need to have the "home movie" DVD remastered in a different format?

Does anyone have a recommendation of which external drive to purchase for my Macbook air so I can play my DVDs and load Microsoft Office onto my Macbook Air?
Info:iPhone 4, iOS 5.0.1
I found a script to do so, but I get an error message about audio tracks every time.
tell application "VLC"
activate
OpenURL "dvdnav:///dev/rdisk1"
play
next
fullscreen
end tell
Anyone know of a sure-fire way to have inserted DVDs automatically play in VLC?
My white macbook (running 10.6) will not play a commercial dvd (BBC's Battlefield Britain: Boudicca's revolt ). When entering the dvd into my mac it shows a file called dvdvolume with a red warning circle in right corner of it. No files are inside the folder. The dvd plays on other dvd players.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWe have recorded movies from our TIVO to a DVD burner. Once on the hard-drive of the burner we burn them to DVD. Some, actually most will not play on my mac. It seams that the DVD +R never play and the -R sometimes play. The ones that do play open in DVD player, Quick time , and front row. The ones that do not play, do not play in any program. When it appears in the Desk top I click on the disk and it shows the audio files and the video files in separate folders. Also I have noticed that the DVD's that do play have a number appearing under the disk when it shows up on the desk top and the ones that do not play do not.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to get my new iMac to play CDs and DVDs that have been created on a PC. All I can get it to do is say "Supported disk not available" Is there something I am not doing right? Or do I have to download some other program to get it to interface with the PC or what. I am brand new to the Mac world.

I just got my computer back from having the hard drive replaced and now every time I try to put a DVD in, it spins for a minute and then just spits the dvd right back out. They play fine on the dvd player and ps3 but not the imac.

I have been using Macs since 1992, upgrading to new operating systems as they came out. Now have Lion 10.7.3. I have recorded video/movie clips mostly from online sources. I have never had problems playing these back until now in all my previous Macs. Now some will play, others when I click the play button come up with the message "supported disc not available". Do I have to buy an old Mac computer with earlier OSX operating systems to play these again? How can I transfer the content to a form that Lion will recognize if they will not open.

Ive recon that when having your MBP's GT330M turned on, you can't play YouTube-videos in full-screen, my screen just turns white, and nothing happens.. Then you have to ESC yourself outta there..
The funny thing is that if you use the Intel HD Graphics processor, it works fine, but it gets very laggy if you have 720p res..
Is there anyone else having this problem?
I can watch a film from front row, uing Leopard, no problem. HOwever, I cannot fine the settings to adjust the output aspect ratio and therefore always watch it in 16:9 which means I have fat borders above and below the film when I watch. This is compared to full control from my standard DVD player.
View 5 Replies View RelatedBeen searching online for an easy way to copy DVDs to the hard drive so they can be watched without the external DVD player needed for the MacBook Air.I've converted the DVD to a .DMG file using the disk utility tool and then mounted it...but cant figure out how to make it actually execute inside of QuickTime...
The full screen option for HTML5 videos on Vimeo only fill the screen to the extent of the browser window.
I'm wondering if HTML5 is limited to the browser window or if it can be implemented in the future.
Why does ITunes sometimes not play the full song? Some songs will only play until the last 20-30 seconds but only in Itunes. They play fine and complete in the finder.

QuickTime has started playing only 3 or 4 seconds of some avi movies. The timer bar goes all the way to the end, but only lasts a few seconds. The files play fine in VLC or on my WDTV, but not in Q.T. It seems very selective, sometimes it does it, then it will play just fine the next day. I have Perian installed. I have Tiger (10.4.11)

This may be the dumbest post in history, but is there an easier way to play a full album in itunes than having to make a separate playlist out of the album or having to check the box on every single track on the album? This seems slightly more complicated than it needs to be, but I can't figure out any other way to do it.
View 24 Replies View RelatedWhen switching from the normal video window to full screen while watching a podcast in my iTunes library, the program immediately crashes. I've tried several different podcast, starting with the smaller video window, then trying to expand using the opposing diagonal arrows symbol in the bottom right corner. The result has been the same. As soon as I click on that the window screen goes black, and iTunes shuts down. I'm on a MacBook Pro 4,1 using OS 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.6 (40). Meanwhile, hope someone is working on the problem with the clickable scroll bars being inoperable.
