I purchased a Macbook a couple of weeks ago as I am currently traveling and needed a laptop bad.This evening I put a DVD in and it wouldn't play. It didn't even read anything.I then tried a number of variable CDs and the same thing happened.This macbook isn't even one month old and is in perfect condition.Is this just pure bad look and the laser has broken before it was even put to use?
View 3 RepliesI have a slow loading brand new dvd burner that I took out of a dell studio xps 16" that is the same exact size as the super drive in the macbook pro unibody 15" (both sata)...Is it possible for me to use this drive since my macbook pro 15 is not letting me load cds or dvds but it does go in...let me know before I do this myself and damage the whole thing
View 3 Replies View RelatedOld Dvd's will play, But most New Dvd's will not play. I insert them and it revs up like they are loading then it kicks them out. Sometimes I can put an older dvd in to get it started and then I can eject the older dvd and then insert a new one and it will then play.

My MacBook Pro plays DVDs with movies on, but no CDs with music, or DVDs with software on them. It just makes a noise for about 30 seconds, then spits them out. What do I do? View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an old DVD custom made from old super - 8 home movies. It plays well in a home DVD player meant to plug into the TV. My MBP 15" mid-2010 8x SuperDrive optical drive cannot play this - on calling up the files to be played, I see a folder with grayed-out files. Furthermore, I can't get out of the DVD player easily and have to do the Force Quit to shut down the program and use Disc Utility to eject the disc. (I use Disc Utility to dismount all types of discs, by habit).My SuperDrive works fine for commercial DVD movies, reading and writing CDs, etc. The "home movies" DVD's file extensions are: .vob, .ifo, .bup. The "home movie" files are:
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOBÂ and so on for the chapters
Do I need to have the "home movie" DVD remastered in a different format?

just came home from Apple Store today with new computer and superdrive, which is not showing up when plugged in. When I put a CD in it reads it for a few seconds then spits it out. I am on the road so getting to an Apple Store will not be easy for the next week.

My white macbook (running 10.6) will not play a commercial dvd (BBC's Battlefield Britain: Boudicca's revolt ). When entering the dvd into my mac it shows a file called dvdvolume with a red warning circle in right corner of it. No files are inside the folder. The dvd plays on other dvd players.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWe have recorded movies from our TIVO to a DVD burner. Once on the hard-drive of the burner we burn them to DVD. Some, actually most will not play on my mac. It seams that the DVD +R never play and the -R sometimes play. The ones that do play open in DVD player, Quick time , and front row. The ones that do not play, do not play in any program. When it appears in the Desk top I click on the disk and it shows the audio files and the video files in separate folders. Also I have noticed that the DVD's that do play have a number appearing under the disk when it shows up on the desk top and the ones that do not play do not.

I have been using Macs since 1992, upgrading to new operating systems as they came out. Now have Lion 10.7.3. I have recorded video/movie clips mostly from online sources. I have never had problems playing these back until now in all my previous Macs. Now some will play, others when I click the play button come up with the message "supported disc not available". Do I have to buy an old Mac computer with earlier OSX operating systems to play these again? How can I transfer the content to a form that Lion will recognize if they will not open.

Been searching online for an easy way to copy DVDs to the hard drive so they can be watched without the external DVD player needed for the MacBook Air.I've converted the DVD to a .DMG file using the disk utility tool and then mounted it...but cant figure out how to make it actually execute inside of QuickTime...
I bought a Mac Book Pro last night. I follwed the set up, completed a migration from my Dell, finished the set up this morning. Now I cannot login to the Mac Book Pro and the log in page has both an apple, and a Dell icon on it. I've tried every password associated with both the Dell PC and my Itunes account.

So I got a MacBook on Tuesday and am already noticing something screwy with my battery. On Tuesday I replaced the RAM and HD before even plugging the MAcBook in. I then hooked up the AC adapter and reloaded Leopard. Once Leopard was loaded (hour or so later) I noticed my battery was just sitting at 99%. Finally about 30-45 minutes later it git 100%, so I was happy and brushed it off as an initial charge. So last night when I plugged the MacBook in to use it I was back at 99%! I used the laptop for about 2 hours and never went back to 100% on the battery. So what gives? Did I do something wrong with the initial use/charge? Should I try draining my battery and recharging it?

I have bought many refurbished products before, but never one this expensive. I just wanted to make sure that there is NO difference in warranty, quality or anything when buying refurbished. Simply just a computer that has been refurbished but includes everything as if it were being bought brand new.
Also I am definitely going to buy a new Hard drive for it immediately. I was reading around about the western digital 5400 rpm and 7200 rpm. Is it worth waiting for the 7200rpm or just go for the 5400? And is 500GB the biggest hard drive that I can put in my macbook? I want the biggest possible.

I just bought a brand new charger and it stopped working after about the third charging cycle. The light just simply doesn't go on and the computer doesn't read anything.
Weird thing though is that my old charger did the same thing at the end (although if you jiggled the connection it worked)? Could it be my computer? Although I tested the charger on another computer and it didn't work either. and a different charger on my computer worked.
Is this common for the new chargers that there are lemons once in a while?
Could it be because I left the plastic over the charger to prevent scratches?
Will apple exchange it for a new one or are they gonna give me a problem cause I really don't think this should have happened.
So I'm interested in building my arsenal of Macbook servicing tools and I'm interested in finding out what is the best brand. I would imagine that tools are rather generic and brand not being an area of consideration. I just want to make sure I buy high quality tools for a high quality machine.
I was looking at the "al a carte" tools from ifixit and powerbookmedic. Seem inexpensive, but I probably wouldn't ever imagine spending more than five dollars for a screw driver anyway... My macbook battery broke 500 cycles, and the battery life was at about half what it used to be so I ordered what was described as a brand new battery from Westronics, through Amazon. I put the new battery in the machine and checked System Profiler, and it is telling me that the battery has 15 cycles on it already. iStat Nano says the same thing. Is this normal for a new battery to have cycles on it already? Or did I not get a new battery? I just want to make sure I got what I paid for.

I'm thinking about upgrading my MBP to 8 GIGS eventually or 6GB for the time being. Is there a specific brand you would recommed? Will brands effect how effective it will be when installed to a MBP?
