Jun 29, 2012I have an early 2011 MBP with 4GB RAM installed and i want to upgrade to 8GB but before i do so i have some questions to make. The MBP has 2 RAM slots so my first question is whether the 4GB is 2x2GB or 1x4GB. Will I see any difference in my MBP performance if i do decide to upgrade?the model of the RAM which is compatible with my model.

Jun 11, 2012Yeah, I know its probably way too early for me to be asking this question but if I purchase the new MBP (specifically the 15" 2.3 256 SSD) will I (in the future) be able to replace the hard drive with a bigger one? I'm asking because I don't have $3500 to spend on the best optoin available. Some people are suggesting that parts may now be soldered in place to make these laptops so thin. Â
I'm not really expecting an answer today, I'll buy in the next few weeks, but in case anyone feels like cracking open their brand new baby and telling us about it, feel free to share (and post pictures!)Â

May 19, 2012MB Pro: 8,1 early 2011 - (13') 4G ram: the MB Pro errors when I attempt to install two 4G SO-DIMM modules (description below). I have actually attempted "two new" (OWC) Other World Computing sets of (2x4G), after it was believed one of the first modules arrived bad. The result remains; only one 4G modules works, in the lower slot. The upper/top slot does not accept a 4G module. I have tried two sets with all the possible combinations using an existing 2G and a new 4G. With this present setup all I get is 6G of ram. In addition, I used eraser on the ram, no go. I followed desktop procedure, unplugged battery etc., etc..

Apr 28, 2012I run parallels a fair bit for research and my MBP is pretty slow. Took it to genius and he said to get a memory upgrade to 8GB. However, I'm reading everywhere that it can handle 16GB and the Crucial says it is compatible (only £100 ish for this so seems a pretty good deal). All well and good- but will this invalidate Apple care as the max Apple state it can handle is 8GB? Or.....is 8GB going to be enough anyway?Â

Apr 18, 2012I bought my Mac a little over a month ago and I'm really not impressed with it. I keep seeing the little rainbow wheel all the time. When I try to load a YouTube video the whole machine just stops working and becomes unresponsive for about 4-5 seconds. Also, when flicking between tabs on Safari it intimitantly becomes unresponsive. I don't do any heavy power consuming things on my mac. It's basically just for college and recently all I've been doing is using Safari, Spotify and Bittorent. I don't know what I should do. Whether to take it back to Apple or just deal with it. My old Acer laptop was fine dealing with this sort of stuff so I'm really unsure. I feel quite let down although I am a total apple fanboy. Â

Jun 13, 2012I am between two laptops, the MBP 15 with retina display and i7 2.7ghz(third generation) and a dell precission m4600 with 2.7(second generation).Same other specs. 8gb ram, ssd, the difference are the gpu, geforce 650M, and the precission has a quadro2000.I will use windows almost the hole time, cause of CAD, and other win programs. But I will be only using 2d cad drawings mainly, so I believe I dont need a quadro. In addition, I want to be able to play some games, like wow or diablo3.So I will need bootcamp. The performance of windows on bootcamp, will be the same as a windows pc native? I read some issues with the wifi, is it true are there other issues? Jun 14, 2012I recently purchased a mid-2012 MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2.3 GHz, non-retina) and I have been receiving Kernel Panic error messages. The screen goes black with white text in multiple languages warning me to shut down my computer and the computer freezes. I have called Apple customer service multiple times. We tried multiple things, including wipe the hard drive and reinstall OS X Lion, but I still get Kernel Panics. One thing I did notice in the "send to Apple" report is that it mentions Google Chrome. It seems whenever I do get a Kernel Panic I am using Chrome. Here are the applications I have installed (besides the default Apple ones):Coda 2Final Cut Pro XTwitterGoogle Chrome Right now, as suggested by the second Apple associate, I uninstalled Google Chrome, to see if that was the cause. She says that it could be related to that or from a software update (which I doubt considering I have yet to install any updates since I reinstalled Lion).Â

Jun 26, 2012Upgraded the 750GB Toshiba HD to a 512GB Crucial SSD and wow what a performance difference. I also have a 15" Retina to compare it against and the 13 read/write access if faster than the quad core retina. Sure the quad will be better with alot of simultaneous programs running but one off or two programs the 13 with the HD update outperformed.Â
On the 13" my startup time was 42-45 seconds after the apple logo appeared. Now with the SSD, 8 seconds. The program launching and performance improved 50%+. I would recommend updating to SSD if you are able.Â

Jun 29, 2012There are random black horizontal lines, constantly on the screen.When I leave the setting of 1280x800 (default), the defects disappear, only small distortions, which makes me think that the error can be corrected via software update. As the Lion was on 10.7.3, I upgraded to 10.7.4 to see if improved. But the errors persists.At the end of the video, the lines are most striking, becoming impossible to work.Â
