Jun 19, 2012Is the port layout on the new Macbook Pro (June 2012) the same as the late 2011 version? i.e. will the new Macbook Pro be compatible with a byte-dock docking station?

How many of you would like to see a HDMI Port? Why the miniDisplay port? Why not remove ethernet jack and miniDisplay port and replace it with a HDMI port. That way one HDMI cable feeds digital video AND audio. Am I the only one thinking of this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI actually ordered a MBP quite a few weeks ago on the refurbished store, but then I decided to return it as I saw that there was basically only 10 pounds difference between the education discount and the refurbished. So I went into the Apple store and asked them if they actually replace keyboards (as I'm not a huge fan of the British Key layout), and the person said that they would do it for free. So I made my purchase on the spot and two days ago I got an email telling me to bring my MBP in.
Two days later, I went into the Apple store to pick it up and voila it's actually quite amazing how they changed the key layout (I was very confused because of the Unibody design... and how that actually works with changing keyboard layouts). Here's the catch: They wanted to charge me 168 pounds (I'm guessing roughly $250). Which... obviously freaked me out. Thank God they waived it for me but seriously why would a Keyboard Layout cost so much?
Does the system remember your settings or "layout" when connected to the display and when not. for example. i wan the dock on the external display when plugged in and ill be able to have more tool boxes open in photoshop... but when using it portable.. id have a much different set up...
does it remember how you have it set up when an external display is connected and when its not? or do u have to keep re layying apps and toolboxes etc out - and also movign the dock to the external screen.
I've had a Macbook for quite some time, and it just died a few days ago, so I got a new regular white Macbook.
The thing is that the new Macbook's got a different layout for the keys- the latin american one. Physically I mean. The keys look different, the symbols are all over the place and I'm having a seriously hard time using it.
Is there any way of changing the keys to the american ones? I still have my old notebook, so I can always change them by hand, but even so the white plastic thing around them has a different shape. Would that be a problem?
I have a MacBook Pro, and as a Phonetics student, it would be immensely supportive to have IPA on my computer. I've downloaded and installed Charis SIL, and the next part is to download and install an IPA Unicode keyboard layout. I've done that, and the instructions tell me to put the file into the Library folder called "keyboard layouts." I can locate this folder when searching for an application to open the file with, however when I'm searching "all my files" the folder is nowhere to be found. What can I do to successfully install this file?

I have a MacBook2,1 - the white one with the 'old style keyboard' i.e. with the expose and spaces keys on f8,f9 keys etc. I am wondering as my work machine has the the expose keys on f3, and f4 keys and the new white macbook has the same keyboard layout with the expose key etc on the early f keys is it possible to purchase a new Macbook keyboard and put it in the older macbook.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a new MacBook Pro i5 yesterday to replace my MBP LED (2.2Ghz). The function keys on the new MBP kinda suck. I really want the one that does "Show Desktop". If you go to keyboard layout, it says that F11, F12, etc., are assigned, but seems it completely ignores them. What the F? Even if I could change the expose button to show desktop, I'd be very happy. I know you can use the 4 finger swipe, but that doesn't help while trying to drag something from the desktop into mail.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy macbook pro keyboard died, the only replacement I could find was the newer keyboard layout (where the Fn keys have different functions - such as volume has been moved etc). After a bit of filing etc to get it to fit, its all back together and looking/working fine, but I need to change the keyboard layout so the pictures on the keys do what they are supposed to (hope that makes sense?) i.e. on the old one volume up was F5, but on the new one volume up is F12.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently reformatted my entire drive and reinstalled Lion with the official Lion USB recovery tool/usb. Now in disk utility the Partition Layout option is greyed out and I can not seem to re partition my disk. I´ve tried repairing my disk rights but still its greyed out.
I ran a demo of iPartition and this message was flagged:
"You cannot make changes to the disk from which your system booted.
To make changes to this disk, you should either boot from an external drive, use Target Disk Mode with another Mac, or create a bootable CD/DVD." Does this mean I can only make changes with it when booting with the usb? This doesn´t make sense as it worked on the default startdisk before. Does anyone have solution?

I have just ordered a new MacBook Pro and it does not have enough USB ports for my needs. If I have a USB 3.0 hub and I mix USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 peripherals on it, will the whole hub/computer USB 3.0 port be slowed down to USB 2.0 speeds?I am thinking back to Firewire, if you have Firewire 800 and 400 devices on the same chain, the whole chain slowed to Firewire 400 speeds.I don't think this is the same with USB but wanted some reassurance..

Is it possible to have a France's French keyboard layout with the canadian Apple Store? I've heard somewhere that it's possible in the US Apple store.
View 8 Replies View RelatedBut i need to compare the two keyboard layouts. I am from Sweden, but I dont mind if the buttons says different on the MPB, as long as there is as many keys that im used to have.
If any one from sweden or china or if any one can google this it would be great! (i have googled ALOT, but I got nothing.. internet here is not they same as back home..
If so how, I'd like my keyboard to be factory made with two languages?I don't want stickers, I want something legit.

I was just doing a superduper backup which failed halfway through because i didnt realise my wd passport drive that was plugged in was auto backing stuff up and there must have been a conflict. Now, I dont know what to do. Email accounts.gone. Any registered apps, still there but reg details gone, any and all system preferences (like trackpad setup just came to mind) gone. Dock and all the items in it and crap I made to ,make it look fancy. gone. Stuff that loads at the stuff...gone.
I know this must have to do with my user directory but wtf? I know my timemachine backup is fine as i did one before all the problems, but is my superduperbackup screwed? I cant stress how screwed I am, I got reports due right before xmas and im like at square 1 now.
I am having issues with my Dual Band 1TB time capsule for some reason the damn ports won't forward I have enabled the correct settings with the ip address and the ports, but when I use a program to test if the ports are open they are always closed, regardless on pc or mac. Does anyone have a solution to this? I even reset my Time capsule to see if it would work, but no luck.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHere's the deal, I am so frustrated. I am trying to open port 59152 for Transmission on my Macbook Pro. I have the latest releases of everything, I am using an Airport Extreme base station with an older airport to boost my signal/connect my tivo w/out a wireless adapter.
I have managed to get it open in the past but there was an update or something a month or two ago and at first it was still open and then it closed. I don't know what changed with the update, all I know is that I did n't change anything.
I have granted permission for Transmission to accept incoming connections on the firewall, little snitch allows it too. I have lighthouse, which worked at first but now I don't even know why I bother having it run. I have the port mapped through the airport utility.
PLEASE don't say to go to portforward.com because they haven't updated the Airport section since Leopard came out, yet every search I do someone repeatedly tells the person needing help to go to [URL]
I am going to attach some screen captures so you can see what I've got going on and maybe point out something I've missed.
I had it repaired at the mac store and iphoto and imovie are missing, probably along with some other applications. I've tried looking for the install cd for it but I can't find it, now I'm starting to wonder if it even had one. If it doesn't, can I go back to the apple store and have them re-install my programs?

So I just bought my first Mac and I bought it as a open box. When i turned it on the Word was in spanish but everything else in English, and whoever had this laptop before me still has it registered to them (I'm guessing). I need to know how to reset it. I want it to be like i bought it brand new and not have anything that the person before me had on it.

I bought my Mac a little over a month ago and I'm really not impressed with it. I keep seeing the little rainbow wheel all the time. When I try to load a YouTube video the whole machine just stops working and becomes unresponsive for about 4-5 seconds. Also, when flicking between tabs on Safari it intimitantly becomes unresponsive. I don't do any heavy power consuming things on my mac. It's basically just for college and recently all I've been doing is using Safari, Spotify and Bittorent. I don't know what I should do. Whether to take it back to Apple or just deal with it. My old Acer laptop was fine dealing with this sort of stuff so I'm really unsure. I feel quite let down although I am a total apple fanboy. Â

Relevant newbie to the mac world. I have a MBP late 2009. I bought a third party Mini display port to HDMI converter so I can hook the MBP to my 46" Samsung screen.
This works fine, no major issues here. However the picture is not great. I compared watching a standard definition TV show through the MBP then burnt it onto a DVD. The DVD (using the PS3 as my DVD drive, connected via HDMI) had superior quality than through the MBP.
Also the picture does not quite fill the screen. There is a small black border running all the way around the screen. Does not sound significant but when doing the same comparison as above, you notice the difference when via DVD the movie fills the screen. I have played around with the resolution settings. Those that fill the screen chop bits of the mac desktop off, so thats no good either.
So I am wondering why this is? Is it because the mini display port is not a DVI port, hence I am not getting true HD quality picture? How can I overcome this if at all. I'm thinking of getting a mac mini as a media hub/HTPC but want to ensure I dont encounter the same problems.
I have a 13" Macbook Pro (mid-2010). I know that the RAM can be upgraded by just adding RAM to it. How about other hardwares like processor, harddrive, or battery? Can I upgrade it through Apple?
