I've heard that you need certain types of bits for the HDD and I would prefer magnetic so I dont lose screws but is there like a particular good branded kit out there mac geeks like to use.
View 7 RepliesIt would appear that the new iPhoto app that is being prepared for cross-platform use is being optimzed for cross-platform as iWork applications have been. The tools for altering photos only has a fraction of the tools currently available in Aperture (and even less than available in platforms like Lightroom. There had been hope that with the new iMac Pro that there was going to be a supercharged version of Aperture...but no mention at that role out, nor in today's WWDC.

I find all the negative news about the death of the Mac at the hands of the iDevices to be rather entertaining but founded on a clear lack of understanding of how Apple really sells products.
One only needs to google "growth in mac sales" to see about 4 million headlines expounding the incredible growth in Mac Sales over the last few years, particularly since the introduction of the iPod, then the iPhone.
Is it not plainly obvious that the way to increase Mac sales is to attract new customers to Apple with killer iDevices with the expectation that they might strongly consider a Mac next time they upgrade their computer?
Almost everyone I know, who now owns a Mac, first purchased an iPod or an iPhone, and to a person said to me "Wow, Apple makes some incredible stuff, I need to check out a Mac". In the last couple of months, many of my colleagues have purchased their first Apple product: an iPad - and are now converted Apple faithful that will most certainly buy a Mac to sync it with in the coming months.
So everyone who loves Mac's should love iDevices and the focus that Apple puts on them. It's the iDevices that attract customers and sell Macs. And increased Mac Sales, means more better product for us.
however does anyone know of any sites that sell Apple t-shirts (like the ones Apple Store staff wear)?

So I'm interested in building my arsenal of Macbook servicing tools and I'm interested in finding out what is the best brand. I would imagine that tools are rather generic and brand not being an area of consideration. I just want to make sure I buy high quality tools for a high quality machine.
I was looking at the "al a carte" tools from ifixit and powerbookmedic. Seem inexpensive, but I probably wouldn't ever imagine spending more than five dollars for a screw driver anyway... Oh and with a coupon code, I can place 4 or 5 consecutive orders and get each tool for free and only pay shipping/handling
I have installed an the old xcode tools 1.0 on mainly by Accident on Lion. Now a lot of commands causes the error "the PowerPC architecture is no longer supported." A lot of programms are now buggy... Is there a way to fix that and uninstall the package?

I have a Powerbook G4 running Panther OS 10.3.9 I don't receive the entire warning that was pictured in the prior thread ? RE: this [URL], just the Incorrect Valence (-61) from Tech Tools. Will the fix described for Tiger also work on my Panther 10.3.9 Powerbook? Also- can I upgrade to Leopard straight from Panther, or do I need to buy all of the newer versions to get there? (I'm hopin' to be able to have someone at the Apple store do that, as I don't have alot of $$ to upgrade...).

I can't seem to get my Macbook Pro 13" 2.26Ghz (OS 10.5.7) connect to my iPhone 3G (OS 3.0) via bluetooth. In the Bluetooth Setup Assistant the macbook sees the iPhone 3G, but they don't connect after I accept the connect on the iPhone 3G. The codes on the Macbook and iPhone are the same and, therefore, should connect.
I've searched the Apple Discussions (support) but there is no answer there.
How can I get it ? It ask me for a password, but.. you know what!
Every time I launch XCode 3.2 on SL and go to Documentation tab at Preferences, it ask me for a password.
I want to use it for Java, but when I try to create a new Project it does not appear there.
I cant upload to youtube using all the tools available.

however it seems there is only one FireWire port on the back of the Mac Pro,
which is currently being used to power a 30" and 23" ACD.
How can this work? is there a firewire splitter, allowing you to use two firewire ports from one?Or anything else you can do, does anyone have any idea's?

View 7 Replies View RelatedAs it's a .exe file, only able to be executed using Windows through BootCamp or Parallels, would you be able to run it and overclock gpu/cpu through profile options and have them take effect in Mac OSX or would they only take effect when running Windows on the mac? Trying to find a way to clock my Mac OSX 10.5 2.2ghz 9400 chipset. Have read about it on forums, though i've not read if it will work when just running OSX as I don't regularly use windows.

I have just bought a new MacBook Pro 13 (with Intel CPU), and I'm trying to set up my MBox 2, which came with Pro Tools 8 LE (m-powered).I'm getting the error message: "Unable to locate Digidesign hardware. Make sure your hardware is connected and turned on. Click "Ok" when the hardware is ready."The USB socket's light on the MBox 2 does not light up, although the other lights are on as normal.I know this is a widely-encountered issue, and I think it is because this software is not compatible with OS X Lion but I have tried several things so far to isolate the problem:1) Have connected the MBox 2 to my Dell Window 7 laptop using the SAME USB cable and it works perfectly (suggesting the USB cable is okay and the USB socket on the MBox 2 is okay).2) Have tried installing the software and drivers from the Installation CD which came with the MBox 2 onto my MacBook three times, in case there was a problem with the installation. This is the same Installation CD I used to install them onto my Dell laptop which did work using the MBox and Pro Tools 8 LE setup (which suggests that the problem is either with the contents of the CD not being compatible or up to date for the MacBook Pro 13 / OS X Lion 10.7.03, or that there is another problem I need to address with one of these three devices/components)3) I have installed the later drivers for Pro Tools 9 (I believe it was for 9.0.6), although I don’t own the Pro Tools 9 software, so this is a newer driver being applied to my Pro Tools 8 LE software. After I did this, the MBox 2’s USB light DID come on!But… when I then tried to open Pro Tools 8 LE, I got an error: “CRITICAL ERROR - PRO TOOLS NEED TO BE REINITIALIZED” Then when I rebooted, each time I opened Pro Tools it said: "Pro Tools LE 8 has shut down unexpectedly. I am working on a Mac Powerbook with OS 10.5.8. I thought I was confused, but when I use MS Word I could not locate certain functions. I discovered that when I open a new document the TOOL functions (between FONT and TABLE) located on the top of the screen disappears. As soon as I hit the button to open the new document it leaves the screen. It is there before I open the new document. I am not talking about the TOOLBOX. I have no problems with that. TOOLS includes things such as spelling check, creating envelopes etc.

I'm new to osx, and need windows for my work too. After playing a few days with the apple keyboard, I exchanged it for my old logitech keyboard. After a few weeks I got used to the Ctrl/Alt/Command key differences, but one think kept bothering me:
- Home / End Keys.
I know I can use Ctrl + Left or Ctrl+Right, to have the same effect as the home/end keys in windows. But I had to disable Spaces, because it also uses those keys. What kind of programs or hints are available to remap such behaviour. I found DoubleCommand, which says it works in Leopard 10.5.2, and it has this one option, but I can't seem to get it working.

Everything. Nothing works. They're all selectable, sure, but the cursor looks like the old Control-Click arrow and they do absolutely nothing. Photoshop CS5. Clearing out all preferences and secondary files doesn't work. Restoring from a once-working Time Machine backup doesn't work.

When I drag any one of the MP4 files into MKV Tools it comes up with an error that says: "The variable theTrackData is not defined. (-2753)". Can someone either help with a solution to the MKV Tools problem or suggest another program to merge MP4 files without losing any video quality.
