Mac :: MacBook Top Case Of The 2.4 GHz - Backlit Keyboard?
Jul 12, 2009I went to the apple store the other day to see if the top case of my (late 2008) MacBook's top case could be replaced (due to some sort of discoloration in the metal). Anyway, they are replacing it free of charge, but i was just wondering if i could tell them to use the top case of the 2.4 GHz MacBook (I have the 2.0 GHz, doesn't include backlit keyboard). I realllllllly want this backlit keyboard, and a replacement by myself is totally out of the question. Please help, i really need a shiny keyboard

Jun 2, 2010Unfortunately I seem to have broken the cable to the top case (keyboard and trackpad) of my older black MacBook 4,1 A1181. A top case from another black MacBook works immediately on the machine, so I know the error is found and I need the top case fixed now. Do you know if it's possible to fix/replace that cable, or do I need to buy a whole new topcase with both keyboard and trackpad?

Jun 25, 2012Getting a new MacBookPro with high res anti-glare screen.I type with two fingers, and often look at the keyboard.
For eye comfort, and to prevent retinal after-images, I'd like all the aluminum dull black. I found tape and fabric to cover up most of the top case and the bezel, but the keyboard is a challenge. KBCovers does not produce a keyboard cover which will be black at the bases of the keys and clear over the keys, which would allow the backlit keyboard to transmit. So first choice is a keyboard cover which has black everywhere there's aluminum, and has clear for the keys. Second choice is an all clear keybooard cover and I'll adhere black to the aluminum around the keys (and top case).
Anyone aware of such keyboard covers ?

(ColorWare voids a three year AppleCare, so ColorWare is not an option)
Never understood Apple's engineering design of making a screen anti-glare and anti-reflective, while making the remainder of the computer glaring and reflective and contrasting. Ye olde black MacBook is such an eye-pleasing and comfortable design.

Nov 5, 2009I alternate between French and English regularly when typing, but every time I have to go to System Preferences (or add an ugly flag that does not match the color-scheme to the status-bar) and change the language. Is there a way to have a keyboard shortcut that switches between two keyboard shortcuts?

OS X :: Cannot Type Letter H In Lower Case On G5 Keyboard
Mar 24, 2009I had problems with my G5 (2005) and the repair shop changed te mother board under warranty. The computer came back with a defect DVD/CD writer that was working before they change mother board. I sent back the computer and they repaired it again. Computer came back and now the letter H (lower case) is not working. I tried several keyboard and the letter H lower case does not work but upper case H works. The repair shop cannot find the problem. I reinstalled OSX, reformatted my a disk and nothing is working to correct the problem.

Apr 9, 2009I got my refurbed 2.4 unibody MB less than 2 weeks ago and just took it to the Apple Store because the very far right side of my spacebar stopped working, and I had a few slanted keys in various places on the keyboard too. The genius at the store told me they needed to replace the top case (metal chassis w/keyboard & trackpad built-in?) and it would take 3-5 days.Anybody else had problems with slanted keys OTHER than the function row? Anybody else had a top case replacement for this or other reasons?I'm nervous that I'm going to get my MB back and the new top case will be installed crooked or worse than the old one. Or the hard drive will be wiped and I'll have to re-install all my programs and iTunes/iPhoto libraries. I was loving the MB, with the spacebar failure being the only real problem... worried it's going to come back more messed up than it was. Am I just being paranoid?

Sep 22, 2010Using the official AIM client on my PC, I can switch conversation tabs with ctrl-tab. On Mac, however, I can't seem to figure out any key combination that allows me to switch tabs. Is there a shortkey or any way to enable a shortkey?
If not, is there an alternative AIM client that supports tabs, chat history logging, and preferably direct IM?

Sep 25, 2008Today I upgraded from mac os 10.5.3 to 10.5.5, and now whenever I play World of Warcraft, I can't use the keyboard shortcuts to switch between spaces. Since I am an AVID spaces use (particularly when playing WoW), I am determined to find an elegant solution to this beyond reinstalling an older version of leopard.
That being said, on Windows I would start tinkering with the registry, seeing if there is a setting that may have been switched for full-screen applications that prevented the use of the shortcuts, etc. And, after doing some digging, I did find some basic files for Spaces (Resources, XML .plists, etc), but couldn't find anything like the registry where the settings are laid out.is there such a thing? If so, how do I find/tinker with it?
I realize that you're encouraged NEVER to mess w/system settings blah blah etc... I've got everything backed up on the machine and could format/reinstall without any issues.
OS X V10.7 Lion :: Korean Keyboard: Using The Switch Language Key?
Jun 7, 2012I have a Korean language keyboard that I'm using with Lion that has a key next to the spacebar for switching language (han/yang = korean/english). I would like to use this key to switch languages rather than apple space. Is there any way to make this happen? I tried changing the keyboard shortcuts, but am unable to do so. The OS doesn't recognize the key.

Jun 21, 2012I just installed the new iMac but when I've been asked on the type of keyboard I answered "Italian" by mistake.
Now some keys are not typing the right character (eg : y and z are inverted), and some others.
I would need to change this, or do it again since the beginning, but when I enter into preferences --> keyboard --> I cannot find any place where I can change that setting.

Aug 28, 2014I currently have 4 input sources on my mac (English, Hebrew, Russian, Spanish).
I use the keyboard shortcuts Command+Space and Command+Shift+Space, and I also have it set to automatically switch input sources as I switch to a document, but for some reason, it's just not working out very well for me. I feel like I'm always typing in the wrong language - particularly if I have tabs open in Safari with different languages, or something like Facebook chat which is in the same window, but may require all 4 languages.
I'm wondering if there is any way to set language-specific shortcuts, for example Control+Command+E -> English, or Control+Command+H -> Hebrew.
I looked in the menus of BetterTouchTool but could find nothing...
Do I need to make some kind of script or app to do this?

Jun 14, 2010I am working on restoring a Time Machine backup from Leopard to a clean installation of Snow Leopard. The only problem I'm facing is that the Leopard backup is on a case-sensitive drive (and the Snow Leopard drive is set up, by default, as case-ignorant).
I have scoured the Web the last two days and have not found a definitive answer to my question: Is there a way to transfer the data from the Time Machine backup on the case-sensitive drive to the case-ignorant Snow Leopard drive?
Yesterday I ran across a tutorial explaining how this might be accomplished using SuperDuper! but a commenter explained that Disk Utility could be used and was much easier.
I tried the Disk Utility method but it didn't work, and I ran out of time to give the SuperDuper! option a try. Does anyone know if it, or even Carbon Copy Cloner, might solve my problem?

Jun 25, 2010Soon i will be getting a Mac(i think) and was wondering about a case. Since i want a Macbook Pro with the Unibody Housing i want it to be safe. Now i can't decide if i want a case or a Sleeve. Now the Case might have heat issues even with the vents that are on the case. The sleeve won't have that issue but will it be more prone to scratching the Macbook it self? Or should i go no case and just sorta deal with the scratches. There is a Price difference between the Sleeve and the Case. About $20 Cdn more for the Case.
