OS X :: SuperDrive Started Ejecting Any Sort Of Media
Apr 20, 2009Recently, my internal superdrive started ejecting any sort of media I'd insert, about 30 seconds of chewing on it and then spitting it back out. Does that mean the drive's dead, I can't even run hardware test since I can't mount the boot disc that originally came with the PB? The weird thing is that it is showing in System Profiler and there aren't any messages or errors! I tried inserting a cleaning disc but it received the same treatment as any other cd or dvd I had tried inserting.

Oct 17, 2009My powerbook started having trouble playing videos or loading websites with flash content. Then it started flickering like a strobe light whenever the screen was predominately white or similar light color. Within several days my screen went black! I assumed my screen had gone out on me. I hooked it up to a HP monitor which I am using right now. It displays fine on there. But I cannot stand being mobilized! I am going to buy a new Macbook or Macbook Pro. When they update. However, it would be amazing if I could use my Powerbook as a laptop, until then. That is when I discovered if I hold down the F2 key to make the screen light up it will light up for..... 2-3 seconds before flickering and fading to black. The fact its able to light up at all, leads me to believe the screen is not completely gone. Does this sound like the videocard to anyone else. I really don't want to buy one and find out its not it. And anything else to try and fix wouldn't be worth the money.

Apr 21, 2012I'd like to do a fresh install of my system but it doesn't accept any of my original apple DVD.Both Snow Leopard, the original install DVD, and the replacement DVD I got are not working and are scratchless.Any other CD/DVD I enter the drive work fine.It eject after a few seconds when my system is working and when I hold C on startup too.I run OSX 10.6.8 on a Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.53ghz

Aug 16, 2009Have got a macbook unibody, got this about 6 months ago. I put a blank dvd+r in today and used toast to burn some files to it. finished burning but the disk will not come out, have tried ejecting and it says its not there no more but has not came out, have also restarted and it see's the disk again and can be read but then if you eject it still does not come out, have tried cmd e, eject button, disk utility, any idea's or should i take it to apple to be fixed/swapped out, not sure which they do

MacBook Pro :: Optical Drive Noise - Ejecting Disk Three Times
Jan 28, 2009I own a new MBP (October 2008 model) and just two days ago my optical drive has started making weird noises whenever I bring my computer out of sleep. It makes a noise like it is ejecting a disk three times, about once a second for 3 seconds. This is really annoying, especially when I use my computer to take notes during lecture because everyone looks to see who is the douche bag with the noisy computer disrupting class. Any suggestions?

Jan 1, 2009I've done all the tried and true stuff. I have restarted, I've restarted and held down the shift key, etc. The disc just won't eject. I haven a PM G5 dual core. Should I just shut the damn thing down, remove the drive and get the disc out that way?

Nov 9, 2009I was trying to import a cd into my macbook pro this afternoon and it went in and clicked into place but then started making a huming sort of noise, but was you could hear it was not spinning, about 20 seconds later it ejected. I tried it multiple times and restarted my computer but nothing seemed to help. The disk drive isn't bent out of shape or anything and I've never had a problem with it until now.

Sep 30, 2007My computger shows the flashing question mark in a folder icon upon booting just after the chime. I've been reading up all about it and am pretty clear about what actions I should take.
The very first direction that all instructions give me is to insert the Startup CD, shut down, and then restart holding down the 'C' key. The problem I'm encountering is that a little while after starting up, the computer ejects the CD, and then goes onto show the flashing question mark again. I'm pretty sure i'm inserting the correct CD as it does itself have the directions to hold down 'C' for booting from CD printed on it. I've tried the other CD which came with my MacBook too, but the same result.
I've booked a slot with a Genius on Tuesday, but does anyone have any suggestions as to why it would be ejecting the CD?
p.s I've also tried to boot in target disk mode, and although the attached PowerBook sees the harddrive in disk utility, the repair utilities are greyed out, and it doesn't see it in finder so can't access the contents.

However, every time I insert the install disk, the machine whirs for a moment, and then ejects the disk with no error message. I tested my drive with a different dvd and it works just fine. All of my other software is up to date.

Jul 20, 2009I have now attached my Time Machine backup disk to the USB port on my Airport Extreme base and selected it as backup disk but it then started the whole backup again. Is there a way of just continuing with the existing backup on this disk? I can look at the old backup from time machine by selecting the older backup manually but this option is most wasteful of space. It's the same disk connected to the same machine, why can't it just carry on?!

Jun 13, 2012First thing to say is that the G4 starts fine (remarkably quickly in comparison with the new iMac) and appears to run okay. However, on running the disk utility I’ve found that there is a problem with the hard drive and it won’t verify either the hard drive or repair the permissions. Like many of its kind the optical drive has failed and therefore I can’t use the installation CD to reinstall or anything else. My daughter has been using the G4 for some years but has upgraded to MBP and wants me to take her files and put them on another hard drive and then wipe the G4 clean. At the moment the disk utility will not work at all. So I’ve been attempting to start it up in TDM via FireWire. The G4 starts up okay in TDM (the FireWire symbol appears on the screen) but there is no sign of it on the new iMac. In the light of what I’ve said so far does it seem probable that I will ever be able to get the start-up disk to work? I have connected the two computers via a Wi-Fi network and have been able to see the disc but when I have run the disk utility it has always reverted back to the G4’s own program.

Jun 1, 2010I have a 2010 15" MacBook Pro 2.4 i5 that I am trying to install Windows 7 on using BootCamp. I have installed a partition using BootCamp of 45GB but once it prompts me to insert the Windows disk, I insert it but after a few seconds the machine ejects the disk without ever mounting or seemingly recognizing the disk.
I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit from a disk.
Can anyone offer any insight or help me figure out what the problem is? I have already tried rebooting and that doesn't work.

Apr 1, 2010I am Having some issues with Safari (I am using 4.0.5), if I open up a website the screen stays white like it normally does for a sec to load a web page but the loading icon keeps spinning and spinning and spinning....... until I click the "X" stop icon and reload the web page. As soon as I click the reload icon the webpage loads up instantly, it is getting really annoying and would be great if anyone has a fix. This doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen frequently and then be fine for a few web pages and then start up again.

Sep 7, 2009running OS X 10.5.8 on a MacBook Pro. Lately my mac has been buggy, and I'm not sure why. When a decent amount of information is processed by any given application, it crashes. These crashes have included Mail, Safari, Photoshop, Foxfire, etc.. even the entire computer has shut down. Using the reset option does not help. I ran Repair Disk Permissions and it always fails. I get messages like "The Underlying Task Reported Failure on Exit". I wanted to try to run repair disk through the install disk but I cannot access it. I have Disk 1 in (Maybe I'm supposed to use 2?).
When booting I tried pressing 'C' and would eventually would get the "must restart" gray screen. I then tried pressing "Option" instead, selected the Disk drive, but the loading screen with the apple just kept going for about 20 minutes and I finally gave up and restarted. There were no longer any disk attempt whirring sounds.
OS X :: Startup Disk Full - Finder And Dock Not Loading
May 7, 2010Just recently I've been getting messages that my startup disk is full and I have to delete stuff. Okay I understand I was riding on the edge of my disk space so I guess I will have to delete stuff. However after restarting my computer all I get is an empty screen and a default blue wallpaper. Finder and my Dock do not load. I am only able to access that top menu bar because Skype gives an error message when the computer starts up. I was able to start firefox from the apple menu/ recent applications. I am completely lost. Also it seems like cache files for any programs I run have been dumped.
