MacBook Pro :: Security Update For Java On OS X 10.6?
Apr 17, 2012
I just updated java for MAC OS X 10.6 which is a security update. I have no idea whether I am using java applets in my web browser. I am unwilling to disable the java web plugin in my web browser until I know what I'm giving up.
Info:
MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2011), Mac OS X (10.6)
What has been released to install as a security update? I seem to be clicking on one web link which takes me to another and nothing to actually install. Typical Apple. Really wish I hadn't bought this MacCrap Air - I do miss my PC.
I am running OS 10.5.8 on an iMac. There is no security update issued for this operating system - it only covers 10.6. Is my comuter vulnerable? Do I need to do anything?
I have problems since applying the latest security Update 2009-001 and Java 10.5 Update 3, I have 10.5.6 on the new unibody 2.4ghz and have completely lost the ability to connect to my wireless access point which is an apple airport extreme base station.
I can sometimes se the base station but cannot connect to it and sometimes cannot see it at all. I have three other apple computers at home all less then a year old running the same build of 10.5.6 but have not updated them and they all are fine.
This one was perfect untill I applied the update.
The machine I am having problems with is partitioned with windows 7 beta on it which has no problems connecting to the base station, which indicates that its not a hardware problem but more then likely the update which is causing the problem.
Is there a way to uninstall the last update or delete it? Any one with a similar problem or know how I can fix it, I have googled but cannot seem to find anyone with similar problems.
I am trying to view a webcam to watch my dog at daycare, when i try viewing it i am told that i need to upgrade my java. did that java told me i downloaded it and ready to use.
but everytime i log into the site and click on the webcam i get a blank screen. i then get a message that my security is blocking me from using java.
What my security should be set at in order to use java. as far as i can see i have everything right. But still cannot view it on my macbook pro. i have OS X 10.9.3. I can view the webcam on my iphone and ipad but i need to refresh every couple minutes. When i sign into the daycare it ask me if i want to use JPEG, GIF or 3G. which is the correct one.
When Flash Trojan was announced Apple sent 2 software updates. iMac downloaded and installed them via software update. (see attached graphic) Mac Mini did not and only advised that "that there is no new software and that software is up to date".

I need Java to run an application on a website. I downloaded and installed it but now I get this message: Your security settings have blocked an untrusted application from running.
How do I change this. I tried under System Preferences - Security and Privacy but didn't see anything there ....
My problem is that when i try to update java to version 6 it never shows up on software update. when i go to the java website it says to do it via software update. Because of this i haven't been able to play runescape because it runs on java 6 but i only have java 5.0. So why doesn't java 6 show up when i search for new software on software update? Is it even possible for my mac to run java 6?
Java won't operate or update. Looked in preferenes and coudln't see that Java was disabled. Tried to use a program with Java required and it said it was either disabled or not updated.
My mac will not automatically detect displays, and even sometimes requires a restart. I've reset SMC, PRAM, repaired permissions, and cleared the caches.
While trying to download the latest security update I received a message telling me the update failed and it had been sent to the trash. The trash was empty and I now didn't have enough free disk space to retry the download so I decided to reboot my computer to free up some disk space. I haven't been able to reboot it since. While booting it gets stuck on the 'starting mac os' screen. I've reset the pram and I've done disk and permission repairs and have tried to start it in safe mode, but it won't. While holding the shift key to get to safe mode It still gets stuck on the same screen (though it takes a few more minutes to get there). I don't have the right version of the start up disk as apple replaced my computer but didn't give me a new start up disk.
I have downloaded the latest security update and my MacBook has been stuck on this blue screen with a little download wheel at the bottom of the screen for about seven hours now. What should I do?
I noticed after the Java update the other day that my Air no longer revs up to 6200RPM when using MLB Gameday. The temperature now stays cool and the fans at ~2500RPM.
I keep trying to open up an online test for work, and my Mac keeps telling me that I need to update/intall Java. Which I have now done multiple times and it keeps giving me the same message.
i cannot get the latest update on my macbook pro, the software update is "Java OS X 2012-003".When i attempt, it says "The update could not be expanded, and may have been corrupted during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs".I do run Java, so i would really like this update.I did recently install a parallel program and installed Windows 7 64-bit, im not really sure if this matters but since the installations it's the first time i haven't been successful updating my software.Software updates are available for your computer.Do you want to install them? You can continue to use your computer during the installation. You don't need to restart it when the installation is complete. Basically the Software Update removes the most common variants of the Flashback malware. This update also configures the Java web plug-in to disable the automatic execution of Java applets.Users may re-enable automatic execution of Java applets using the Java Preferences application. If the Java web plug-in detects that no applets have been run for an extended period of time it will again disable Java applets. This update is recommended for all Mac users with Java Installed. url...
I'm operating on a MacBook Air that i recently updated to OS X 10.9.2. Along with the update, Java 7 was installed. I need to have Java 6 Update 20 installed to use some programs on this computer for work. I've gotten the files to install that update, but when I attempt to do so I receive a message stating that I cannot install on my disk. A newer version is already installed.
I've gone into finder > Go to Folder and deleted the Java folder after uninstalling java in the first place. This has not fixed my issue.
my mbp 15" won't install FT, kept getting msg saying need security update 2010-005. I did a software update and everything is up to date. and found that 2010-005 was installed a month back. i did a reinstall of that security update via apple site and try FT again. the same thing happen, same msg!
In the last two years when I have attempted to update my security on my Macbook Pro (Tiger OS) it has either not completed the download or frozen my computer. I've had to back up and erase my hard drive twice and reload everything. Is there some sort of bug in this update? I want to update to snow leopard but when I've tried with the upgrade disk it tells me that Snow Leopard will not install on my OS. Will the security update facilitate that?
Using a MacBook Pro 2.16 Ghz Intel, running 10.6.8 - ever since I installed the security update I can no longer print. Printer is a Brother HL-4570CDW color laser with current drivers. Ran disc utility to repair permissions but no change.

Update 2012-002 on macbook pro. When rebooting, after 'successful' install, I now see a repeating cycle of Error = 19, unable to mount root. From my *nix perspective I fear the worst - that the boot sector (at a minimum) is hosed. I tried (running Lion 10.7.x) booting with the command key down - no joy. do not currently have my install disk (sadly, it's in storage, somewhere). I'm concerned about this. this is VERY unusual for an update. This is a relatively new drive (750GB drive installed about 8 months ago). At no point have I seen errors, and believe me, I look. Assuming the worst case is repartitioning? (ah for hte days of 'fdisk /mbr')
