MacBook Pro :: SPDIF (COAX) Output Not Supported?

Apr 25, 2010

My PC has a digital out jack that uses a mini plug (SPDIF) converted to a single RCA jack (COAX). When I tried this on the MBP (latest 13 inch), I don't get any sound at all. The sound manager under settings detects the connection as headphone. Is this type of connection not supported at all? Do I need to go via TOSLINK to get digital sound?

IMac :: Configuring SPDIF Out For Sony Amp

Oct 1, 2009

Basically I've got my mac mini (1.5 core solo) going optical SPDIF into my Sony Surround amp (6.1) But If I play music from itunes i don't get 2.1 I get 2.0. I've been arsing around with Audio Midi Setup all evening to no avail, whatever I do it won't let me do anything other than stereo left and right, which of course is bloody annoying because it means the bass channel is completely missing.

MacBook :: Keeps Switching Between Internal Output And Digital Output For Sound?

Jun 19, 2012

My sound keeps turning off. When I check the settings, the output device switches randomly between Internal and Digital output. I have no idea where the Digitial Output is coming from and this started about a month again. It switches randomly and then I loose all sound for a few seconds. Sometimes it happens once then stops for a few days, other times it switches back and forth for 5 min. No idea!!!

OS X :: Mac Audio/MIDI Says "audio Output Not Supported"?

Sep 14, 2010

My audio/midi setup says "output not supported". As a result when I plug in my Ipod, or a CD player, into the mic jack (audio input) on my Mac Mini I can't get the audio to play out of the speakers or headphone jack. I can see that the mic is definitely picking up a signal. I have a mac mini (solo intel) 10.4 OSX. Audio output from ITunes or music movies clips in IPhoto works fine. I have checked the cables and connections. I have checked the "sound" location in System Preferences to make sure the "built in output" source is selected. The input volume display shows that the audio input is being registered. I have checked "system profiler" in the Utilities folder in Applications to make sure the "built in output" AKA headphone outlet is recognized.

I have the "Soundflower" App. installed but turned off.

Does anyone have an idea as to why the audio output from the internal sources like ITunes and IPhoto music clips work but the audio output from an external input source like my Ipod or CD player does not? WHY DOES THE AUDIO/MIDI SETUP SAY "OUTPUT NOT SUPPORTED"?

IMac :: Spdif And Headphone Jack - Bypass Klipsch 2.1 System

Nov 22, 2010

I am currently using the Klipsch 2.1 speaker system plugged into the headphone jack. Sometimes just the imac speakers are good enough to use and I don't need the Klipsch speakers on. Well, this means I have to continually plug/unplug the 1/8" jack from the headphone jack from the back of the Mac. It would be so much easier if I could just leave the jack in and be able to select it from the Sys Prefs, but I cannot do this since the 1/8" jack is the only jack available other than the spdif jack. From some quick reading I see that there is no such thing as a cheap spdif to 1/8" adapter with a DAC. Is there perhaps some app that will bypass the Klipsch 2.1 system that I am not aware of to let me use the iMac speakers or do I just have to keep plugging/unplugging the jack from the back of the Mac?

MacBook :: Green Tinted Output From DVI Output

May 23, 2009

I use an external monitor with my macbook, it's a couple of years old 17" Sony TFT. I connect it to the macbook through a DVI cable into the adaptor, into the mini DVI port on the mac. About 90% of the time I do this, the second display shows the correct graphics but is tinted fluorescent green, however if I play aorund enough with the connection, it goes back to full colours. Is this something a genius could fix, or do you have any recommendations about what to do?

MacBook Pro :: Hp Photosmart D110 Installer Not Supported

Feb 19, 2012

I'm trying to reinstall my HP Photosmart D110 printer for like the 11th time this week. I bought the printer about 1.5 years ago, with my Macbook Pro. Everything worked fine at first -- through my last year of college, several moves, etc. Now, when I try to use my printer (wirelessly or hard-wired) it simply won't work. I've gone through uninstalling and reinstalling the HP software, with the installation CD and the downloaded installation software from hp.com/support --they're one in the same.

My Mac won't recognize the printer and at the end of the installation wizard, I get a message saying "If your device is not listed, it is not supported by this installer." I've called Applecare. The rep was very helpful, but unable to resolve my issue. I've called HP Tech Support, which was a less than pleasing customer service experience. They're not open 24-7 as they advertise and when I finally did get a rep, he was troubleshooting for a PC when I specifically noted that I have a Mac. Naturally, I was told I needed to be transferred to a different department, where no one answered the phone (even during "normal business hours.")

MacBook Pro :: Boot Camp 3 X64 Not Supported On Santa Rosa?

Aug 28, 2009

Whilst being supported under the last BC drivers available with Leopard Install DVD 10.5.6, Apple has decided that there is no need for any further support for Windows x64 on the Macbooks and Macbooks Pro prior to 2008. So no HFS+ read support in Windows for us, then. Since Microsoft has dumped i386 for its server line and it is pretty clear that Windows 7 is the last 32 bit release from Microsoft, it makes sense to install the 64 bit version now for easier upgrading in the future. Plus you actually get to use the 4GB of ram installed in your machines.

So why this retrograde step Apple, particularly as you were trumpeting the virtues of 64 bit processing in your own latest offering?
