View 3 RepliesI just turned on my 13" MBP and got this message. Apparently, this is supposed to come up when there is only like 5% charge left. My battery indicator at the top of the screen said there was 22% charge left. Also, according to IStat, my battery's health has already dropped down to 97% after only about 2 weeks and 5 cycles. Is this normal? I'm going to try recallibrating my battery by fully charging it and then letting it fully drain. Is there a good chance that this solves this problem?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I got a new White MacBook a few weeks ago, and it isn't sleeping properly. When Im using it and the battery gets low, I get the message that it is running on reserve, and It will go to sleep in a few minutes.I keep using it, and turns off, but the light stays on solid for about 10 seconds while it is copying the RAM to the HD for the "Deep Sleep." Then it just turns off instead of breathing. To wake it back up again I have to plug it in and press the power button. I was under the impression that it is supposed to enter normal sleep (I.E. the same as when you close the lid) when the battery gets low, and only enter "Deep Sleep" if it stays asleep too long and the battery dies completely.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook (2 GHz, 2GB RAM) OSX 10.6.2. The problem that I have with it is that I will not tell me when it is on reserve battery, so I shuts down with out me knowing. The computer has reported that the battery needs to be replaced soon, but I can't see how that would affect the battery notification. Also all of the energy preferences have been set back to default so there is nothing in the preferences that would be affecting this.

My macbook fan doesn't stop running on high power (6700rpm). There is no process generating high CPU load (checked with iStat), and the macbook is on a normal desk. I've also made a SMC reset, without any improvement. I thought about reinstalling Mac OS X, but the fan already starts when I switch the computer on, so not sure if it's the OS. It's really annoying to hear the fan running all the time.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI've recently experienced a problem with my mac. It shutdown when the battery had lost all of it's juice and wouldnt charge or run off the AC power. The charger is not the problem, nor is it the battery, but I believe it has something to do with the internal power supply circuitry of the laptop. The tiny light on the tip of the charger that's usually green when fully charged or not charging and red when charging is not glowing anymore. I believe a power surge was the cause of the problem or some elctro-static discharge of some sort. Whatever the problem is, it needs to be fixed ASAP! Does anyone know what the problem might be?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a late 2007 MBP 15inch 2.33Ghz Core 2 Duo. I have had since new and no problems. Over this last week I have had the same issue a couple of times. The MBP just switches itself off. The first time it did it, it was running on battery (I was using Aperture) and had 60% power available. It would refuse to re-start until I connected it to the mains and then it ran fine.
Then it did the same thing overnight at some point. I had left it connected to the mains (as I always do at home), had shut the lid to put it into sleep mode. When I came back it was switched off. No-one had touched it whilst I was away but yet it had just turned itself off.The only thing that I noticed was that when I started it up both times the little light on the magsafe connecter kept flashing between orange and green. However when the computer booted into OS X both times it showed a reasonable amount of power in the battery.
I have a MacBook (purchased in May) that has issues with the battery status. When the MagSafe Adapter is plugged in, it shows that the battery is charging, but when the MagSafe Adapter is unplugged from the computer, the computer does not recognize that it is running on battery power. (It still shows that it is running on A/C power.) I have already reset the System Management Controller, and it didn't work. What else can I do?

I've tried restarting, enabling and disabling Time Machine....nothing seems to work... Isn't time machine supposed to delay backups when the laptop is on battery power..?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I was working on my MBP last night I noticed the computer slowing down, then a sheer black wash went over the screen and a prompt saying I need to manually power off and then power on the computer with several different languages below. When I did that the computer made the on sound, opened up to the apple logo in the center and the spinning gear below. But its stuck there! I can definitely hear the laptop running but it hasnt budged for the last 12 hours.

My old G5 dual 1.6 will not go into sleep mode. I had upgraded to 10.5 but several of my photography programs would not run so I reverted back to 10.4 by reinstalling the operating system and not wiping the drive clean. I now must shut down everytime or the G5 will get to the point that all of the cooling fans are running full speed and it will not go into sleep mode automatically. Any suggestions other than a clean install?

I am having a little trouble with my MAC machine. Right now, it is running very slow, and I usually work on application including Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. When I opened a file there (file size could be large), I timed it, it took 12 minutes to open & 5 minutes to print. Such situation wouldn't be normal? I was wondering if I add more memory into the system, will it help at all (increase the response time overall)? Or do I need to tune up anything to reduce the loading time?
Here are the main configurations on the MAC machine:
-Power Mac G5
-Dual 2GH z Power PC GS (2.2)
-1 GB DDR SDRAM
I am done with PCs as my PC died on me again....for the last time. I am a total and complete Mac newb and need an older Mac system, as I cant afford the new ones. I see the Power G4 being sold on Ebay all the time but with no operating system. My question is: How hard is to install the operating system if I were to purchase an older G4 and....the software....what should I buy? Where to purchase it? If I purchase an operating system off Ebay....how do you know it is for real and not a pirated copy? Take it easy on me guys....I am a newb with my first post. I had a guy off Craig's List who going to sell me a system...but never to be heard from again. Now....I like the looks of the old G4 and hope to learn more about them....to the point of owning one. I have read that the Power G4 is a nice machine and runs well.

I got a Power Mac G4 from a friend. I realized i can store all my content on there and just access it remotely from my 2011 Macbook Pro. While my G4 was running remore desktop it froze. So i held the power button to shut it off and when i restarted it all i get is the Apple logo on the gray screen, and i t wont start in safe mode. I forgot to mention i started togo throught the G4 and take his name off and ad mine (hard drive name and user names). I took the hard drive out and attached it to my MacBook Pro. The hard drive works fine,And i can access everything. I tried running disc utility on the G4 hard drive with my MacBook Pro. and it said ALOT.

I was out of town so this description was second hand but the computer has been running a little weird for a while. When I have too many apps open or on a website that has a lot going on...the computer starts revving up until I quit out of everything and let it slow down. I guess while I was gone, this happened but nobody quit out the apps and it eventually turned the screen black. When I tried restarting it sounds like the computer is working but the screen is black so I can't see if it is booting up or not. I took the monitor into the apple store yesterday and it started up right away for them. It's a cinema 23" I think.

I have a Macbook running Leopard and an iMac running Tiger. I am looking to upgrade Leopard to Snow Leopard and Tiger to Leopard. If I were to purchase Snow Leopard and install it on the Macbook, would I then be able to use the copy of Leopard that came with the Macbook on the iMac? I am not trying to use 2 copies of the same thing on different machines, I just want to put a new os on one machine and move the existing one to another.I am reluctant to purchase the Mac Box Set version of Snow Leopard for the iMac because I do not want or need iLife and iWork.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Macbook Pro (from mid-2010) has recently started running EXTREMELY slowly, and the fan continuously runs loudly. From other posts, I have checked my activity monitor to see if any process is taking up a lot of the CPU % and have found that nothing seems high, except the kernel_task which, from what I understand, is supposed to be high. I have also attempted to reset the SMC which didn't fix the problem either. I have taken my computer to the genius bar 3 times now, and they keep telling me nothing is wrong (because it works perfectly there), but when I get it home the fan comes back on, and everything runs slowly.

My Mac feels as if it is running slower these last couple of months. I have thought of pursuing a commercially available "clean up" product, but thought I would try the community first and also for pointers using the Mac's own internal diagnostics or system improvement capabilities. Any and all advice is most welcome. I have a 250GB hard drive that is half full, I always update to latest revisions and have an extra high-speed internet connection. Computer is not heavily loaded with apps and typically using Firefox for browsing. (MS Office for Mac as well, but usually limited to one program such as MS Word or Excel at a time.) No heavy graphics utilization. Videos from the internet load slowly and some are choppy. Even scrolling just doesn't seem "brisk".

Anyone know where I can buy an extra AC cable for the MagSafe 85W power supply that came with my late 08 MBP? I'd like an extra cable and I'm not interested in ponying up the dough for the entire power supply. I checked the Apple Store and Macmall, but haven't found anything as of yet.

I've been suffering of slow speed on my macbook pro, and this happens when I unplug it from power and just let the battery works itself, then the % CPU usage increases dramatically to 330% and the laptop becomes very very slow, what should I do? Because if my macbook is off-power, it doesn't work properly, so what is the point to own a portable computer?

I've had an iMac for just about a year and over time I guess I just didn't notice but the machine always ran very quietly. At the same time the back of the computer would heat up so bad that it would nearly burn my hand if I left it there. Well last week I decided to upgrade to Lion from Snow Leopard and when I did the install failed and froze up the hard drive. I took the computer in to the apple store and they determined that it had to have a new hard drive installed because the old one (only a year old) had a physical malfunction (was broke). So anyway I have my iMac back and get it started up, backed up from time machine, and then finally get Lion istalled - and now all of the sudden I notice that the fans in the computer are CONSTANTLY blowing - I can hear them spinning and can hear the air venting out of the back of the computer - and the computer is STILL really hot on the backside of the screen.
So now I am wondering if the originial problem was the computer heating up and if that may have broken the otherwise good hard drive? Also now that I have a new hard drive - should I be concerned about the fans being on ALL the time? I mean they never go off. Even when I leave the computer for hours and come back to it and the screen is asleep the fans are STILL buzzing away at top speed. Here is the stats on the computer at the time that I'm typing this note - there are no other programs running than Firefox and Mail. Also - I don't know what the optical drive is exaclty - but if it's the DVD drive (superdrive) - there is nothing in the DVD disc drive
