MacBook Pro :: Running Extremely Slowly And Fan Continuously Running Loudly?
Jun 4, 2014My Macbook Pro (from mid-2010) has recently started running EXTREMELY slowly, and the fan continuously runs loudly. From other posts, I have checked my activity monitor to see if any process is taking up a lot of the CPU % and have found that nothing seems high, except the kernel_task which, from what I understand, is supposed to be high. I have also attempted to reset the SMC which didn't fix the problem either. I have taken my computer to the genius bar 3 times now, and they keep telling me nothing is wrong (because it works perfectly there), but when I get it home the fan comes back on, and everything runs slowly.

Jul 8, 2009For about a year now, I have been continuously losing space on my HD. I have long ago stopped downloading anything bigger than occasional jpg's or iTunes songs/podcasts, and I am constantly purging my computer of things b/c the space just keeps running out. Frankly, my estimate is that it should be at about 20 - 30 GB. It's at 500 MB, and after leaving it on for several hours, it will often chew up the virtual memory, drop to ZERO KB, and I restart to regain the 500 MB I had. This process cannot continue.
I ran a command on Terminal (something a guy on another forum site posted), and here's the results:

Of "users", it's just me, though there is a Library folder under the 'MacIntosh HD' heading, and also a Library folder under my user heading as well. Somewhere in my Mac is stored like 30 GB+ of stuff I don't need, but I don't have the knowledge to know what I can dump and what I can't dump. I also accidentally created another account for myself by accident years ago, but never used it, and it uses up negligible space.
MacBook :: Motor Keeps Running Continuously?
Jul 3, 2012Ever since I upgraded to Lion (and doubled my RAM) it seems like my 2009 Macbook's motor ( for lack of a better term)Â seems to run and run until I put it to sleep. Is it all coincidental? I make sure it is vented. Doesn't seem to make a difference. And of course my Apple Care just expired.

Intel Mac :: Running OS X 10.5.8 - Disk Full, Can't Connect To Router, ITunes Error
May 1, 2012Our iMac running OS X 10.5.8 has several problems, some of which may be related.Â
1. The hard disk is close to full. I am not sure this is the root problem. I would like to either find junk files that I can delete (sort of like disk cleanup in Windows) or copy some old, but possibly still useful, files to a CD or an external hard drive, but I have not been able to do so.Â
2. I cannot connect via WiFi to my home LAN. If I try to connect, I get an "invalid password" error message, even though I am using the same password that other devices are using to connect successfully.Â
3. I cannot open iTunes because an unknown error occurs (13014). Â
The problems started when we tried syncing an iPad and the process would not stop. Then there was a temporary power outage. Â
We have also recently tried adding a Time Capsule to our home network. I am not sure that it is configured properly. I want to continue to use our older router for WiFi but use the Time Capsule for backing up Macs.Â

MacBook Air :: 2011 Fans Continuously Running (regular Fix Attempts Applied)
May 9, 2012I have a users machine that the fans wont stop running at high speed Its a 2011 MBA 13" i5 128gb ssd I installed a few fan monitors and fan controllers, they all say the fan is at 0rpm. Apple is not my first language; but Im warming up?I have performed an SMC reset as well as the P&R? reset?  Both went through properly, the SMC i could see the power cord light change colors, and the other reset performed before the chime would make the chime, black screen, rebooted. Alot of what I read on this topic consists of the machines fans ramping up because they are being used, or if its a fluke the SMC will reset it. I havnt been able to find anything in regards to the computer reporting 0% and just running non stop.

Intel Mac :: Won't Turn On And Continuously Beeps
May 12, 2012i tried turning on my iMac an hour ago and it whirred up with a black screen while beeping continuously, each beep an equal distance apart. I tried counting the beeps a few times and they don't seem to stop (I counted up to about 30 before i decided to stop, they kept going!)
I've read a few forum posts, and other things related on the internet, but no-one has a problem with continuous beeping. I don't know how to open up my mac book and replace RAM, or anything of the sorts.

Jun 3, 2012Since 2 weeks, after years of 0 problems, my iMac is continuously freezing or crashing when I use Apple software (Mail, Software Update, Garageband).
I've installed Kaspersky and even reinstalled Mac OS Lion, same problem. It goes away temportarily when I restart cleaning the PRAM. or turning off the extensions.

Whenever I put any disc into the drive it almost goes all the way in and then it automatically ejects the cd. The cd never goes fully into the drive. OS X :: CPU Fan Running At Full Speed All The Time
Mar 4, 201020'' Aluminium iMac, 2.4ghz, 4GB RAM, 2133.
My internal hard drive recently fatally crashed out so I replaced the hard drive with a nice big 1TB one. Since i put the machine back together and reinstalled OSX (Leopard 10.5), this fan has been going constantly:

I installed the iStat widget to check what the temperatures were like inside. I got this back:
By this point I'm assuming the sensor/s is either disconnected or something worse, and the fan is being clever and safe by running all the time. So I open it up and check the connections which seem to be fine, but i give them a blow etc and THEN I got a reading on the temps, and the fan was working nice and calm. I closed her up, and typically, the problem started again.
I assumed that the case had something to do with it, pressing on the sensor or something. Which it wasn't.
I did all the things I did the first time again, but this time with no temperature readings at any stage.
Now I'm not sure what to do. The fan is running at full speed all the time and I have no temperature readings, save the two shown above. I also tried the application 'Temperature Monitor' with the same results.

Mar 27, 2009Brand new 2009 octo, with the 2.2x ghz CPUs. Turn it on, start NO apps. Let it sit idle. Within a few minutes the fans ramp up to FULL jet engine speed. I can't hear people on the telephone. And never stop. Let me reiterate that I am running NO apps. My load averages are in the zeros.

Feb 28, 2009I've got a little problem with my iMac 24" 2.8 GHz Nvidia Geforce 8800GS 500GB. When I start it up, the fans start blowing at full speed. I checked the apple support page for support and found my problem with all the symptoms being correct. The support said I had to reset the SMC by shutting down the iMac, then removing the power cord and all the other one's, wait 15 seconds and then put the power cord and the other one's in respectively. I did this almost 10 times, but my iMac still won't stop making those annoying noises. Maybe it has to do with the SMC fancontrol app my brother installed lately.

Aug 31, 2014I had to delete a Yosemite partition I created on my mid 2012 macbook pro because the 16gig available filled up fast.
I check my HD and it was almost full to capacity, it shows I had 2.2 TB of photos and 1.5 TB of audio.
I don't know if this photos and music kept adding each time I sync my iphone or each time i log on to Facebook.
Anyway I would like to FREE UP THE SPACE but how, and would I need to have 3plus TB of external DH to do this, or what??????

Power Mac G5 :: Full Speed Fan With Cover On - How To Know About It
Nov 4, 2007My fans are running at full speed and it's getting really noisy when the plastic cover is on.
Its the two fans that you remove when accessing the memory slots that are causing all the noise, as soon as i remove the plastic cover they start to slow down.

Dec 26, 2009maybe I haven't been paying attention but my HD seems to have a misc 50-150 GB of stuff on there that didn't seem to be there before, nor can I account for what it is. I have opened up the HD and gotten "info" on all folders there. The total amount of storage does not equal what the HD tells me I have. I get "info" on the HD and it says 300 GB used (20 GB left).The folders and size are as follows as listed on my HD:
Users: 154.46 GB
World of Warcraft (ashamed faced): 21.28 GB
Applications: 3.68 GB
Library: 6.34 GB
System: 4.49 GB
Limewire: 49.4 MB
Incompatible Software (?): 1.6 MB

For a grand total of: 190.39 GB or so (not including the 50 mb or 644 kb) I'll include what is on my desktop as well (I assume it is already included on the list above but just incase).........
MacBook Pro :: Fans Running At Full Speed / Heat Sensors Are Fine?
Apr 14, 2010So today I opened up my MBP to clean it out and stuff (it had a ton of dust... A wall of it had built up where the fans blow out)All is fine and dandy now except for one thing. Since I don't want to open my case up for the second time today (right fan wasn't plugged in all the way first time I started it up... oops x( ) I'm asking here since everything else seems to be fine.
What I did:
Opened everything up all the way down to the heatsink.Applied correct amount of Thermal paste.plugged everything back in (right fan wasn't perfect at first, but fixed and stupidly didn't double check everything else while I was in there)
And now both fans are running at 6k (full) constantly. I tried resetting PRAM and SMC with no luck. I'm about to grab my disk 1 and run the diagnosis to see if that turns up anything.Are there any plugs that I might have accidentally not plugged in all the way or at all that would cause this? Also any other suggestions if everything is plugged in correctly?

Also, I have iStat Menu. No apps using all my CPU (Mostly <10% usage right now) and temp is mostly <40c right now. All temps have a temperature so I'm assuming all heat sensors are fine.On a great note: My computer is so much cooler now! Even before this at 6k rpm I'd get down to MAYBE 45c if I was lucky.I also have Fan Control installed and it's not having any effect
Intel Mac :: Running Constantly Hot - Changed The Hard Drive But It Is Running Hot?
Mar 5, 2012I've had an iMac for just about a year and over time I guess I just didn't notice but the machine always ran very quietly. At the same time the back of the computer would heat up so bad that it would nearly burn my hand if I left it there. Well last week I decided to upgrade to Lion from Snow Leopard and when I did the install failed and froze up the hard drive. I took the computer in to the apple store and they determined that it had to have a new hard drive installed because the old one (only a year old) had a physical malfunction (was broke). So anyway I have my iMac back and get it started up, backed up from time machine, and then finally get Lion istalled - and now all of the sudden I notice that the fans in the computer are CONSTANTLY blowing - I can hear them spinning and can hear the air venting out of the back of the computer - and the computer is STILL really hot on the backside of the screen. Â
So now I am wondering if the originial problem was the computer heating up and if that may have broken the otherwise good hard drive? Also now that I have a new hard drive - should I be concerned about the fans being on ALL the time? I mean they never go off. Even when I leave the computer for hours and come back to it and the screen is asleep the fans are STILL buzzing away at top speed. Here is the stats on the computer at the time that I'm typing this note - there are no other programs running than Firefox and Mail. Also - I don't know what the optical drive is exaclty - but if it's the DVD drive (superdrive) - there is nothing in the DVD disc driveÂ

Mar 21, 2012my 4 year old IMac 2.4ghz intel core 2 duo with 2gb running 10.7.3 has been running really slow since I installed photoshop CS4 and upgraded to lion ( I have 137gb of free space on hard drive) I mean it wont quit out of photoshop I always have to do a force quit and most applications run really slow. Do I need a new computer , what should I go for to have a smooth running mac?Was thinking of a new IMac 27-inch: 2.7GHz with 4gb memory.Â

Power Mac G5 :: X800 Fan Runs At Full Speed All The Time
Dec 30, 2007I recently purchased an X800 and installed in my G5 1.8DP (OS X 10.4.9) with the intention of having something to drive my shiney new 30" Cinema display. All booted fine and, in glorious wide-o-vision, I spent the next 30 mins playing with all of this extra screen real-estate. At that point, I started to notice that things were not as quiet as I'd initially anticipated.
In fact, the amount of fan noise was so high that I'm not going to be able to use the new card as the machine is part of a project recording studio installation. Doh! So, a quick trawl of the ATI web site lead me to the ROM updates claiming to address fan speed control.
Update to the most recent version of the ROM and no change. Similarly, I've installed the most recent version of teh ATI control panel.
Odd as other people seem to be saying that they're not experiencing the same problem. And strangely, the GFX card fan runs at a low "normal" speed in Safe Boot mode whilst installing the ROM updates.

Jun 25, 2010My PCI bay fan is running at full speed no matter what. The temperature sensor reads correctly in OS X, so I don't think it's a bad sensor.
Is there any way to set the fan speed manually, say in openfirmware?
It's a 1.8 DP June '04; I've ran ASD 2.5.8 to calibrate and test the mobo, which passed.
PowerPC :: PB G4 1.67 - 15" Battery Power - Green Light Never Came On To Indicate Full Charge
Sep 17, 2010Basically I'm having issues with my newly acquired Powerbook G4. When i bought it the battery was not working at all so have now installed a new replacememnnt battery which works fine but having some slight issues. So...
First time I charged it, it reached 100% but green light never came on to indicate full charge. When I run the PB off the battery it gets to 20% and it shuts down without any warning it's low on battery (trying to switch it on after this is impossible, it clearly has no life) After the above I connect the power lead and start up the computer, the battery indicator starts charging from 20% onwards. Something fishy definitely going on and I have no idea what it could be, I calibrated the battery but it has always cut off at 20% since first charge/discharge.
