I am recently having really slow connection speed to the internet (both through wifi and ethernet connections). I have been told that when I run a netstat report there are too many active internet connections, somewhere in the region of 100. How do I remove all of these connections as to speed up my connection to the internet?

I have a fairly recent 17" MBP and I've discovered today that the headphone socket is a bit looser than I'm used to. My usual headphones click in as usual, but very little effort is required to pull them out. I have recently been using a client's cable to hook my MBP up to their speakers, and I have a feeling that the 3.5mm jack (which was a fairly tight fit) has somehow worn the socket.
Is it possible that using a slightly 'fatter' jack can damage a socket like that? I'm a bit wary of people plugging their cables into my laptop now, as I don't want to exacerbate the problem! Anyone else experienced this?
I could answer this myself tomorrow morning by trying it out on my fianc�e's new MBA but it's in the bedroom and she's asleep. Chances are I'll forget by tomorrow so I figured I'd ask here.
My Unibody MacBook Pro (Rev A) can use the microphone in my iPhone headphones when they're plugged into the audio out port. The volume controls on the headphones also work. Is this also true for the audio out socket on the MBA?
If yes then it should be pretty easy to make a mono audio input source by hacking an old set of iPhone headphones. I'll probably just get some kind of USB audio in adapter but this could always be an option.
I am trying to use Syncopation to sync my iTunes library between my iMac and two Macbooks. I have had success in the past, but haven't used the program for a while (yeah...lazy!). Now, whenever I go to run the sync, I get this:
Cannot read from socket. error 0
Any ideas?
It may well be unrelated to Syncopation.
I recall data socket errors being an old windows thing, usually due to viruses or malware. Obviously, that's not a problem I should be having on my iMac. I don't get the error running anything else.
Can it be done? Is there a second socket on the uni-processor Mac Pro model which will allow for the addition of a second processor to the board, to give a dual-processor machine? For instance, with the 3.33GHz Mac Pro -- could you add another identical 3.33GHz quad-core processor to a second socket?

I have have never heard this before as it isnt that loud at all, and only cam across it by chance. I kind of figured out that it might be the electrical current.

One day I was using my earphones and pulled them out and a red light appeared and I could not get sound. I read online to insert the headphones a few times which resolved the situation.However now sound works fine out of the speakers but when using the earphone jack sound will only come out of one side, does anyone know what is causing this or recommend any solutions?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy MBP 3,1 (early 2008?) normally just connects to my WLAN when I start it up but very occasionally it connects to a nearby WiFi Hotspot. When it does, turning Airport off then on again sometimes gets it to connect to my WLAN but sometimes it just keeps re-connecting the the hotspot. The only solution - and it works every time - is to reboot. But rebooting seems such a Windows thing to have to do.
Does Airport "prioritize" its choice of connection, e.g. first tries to connect to the last WLAN it was connected to? One other thing. If I go into Network Prefs and click the Advanced button, I see my WLAN there but there seems to be no way to tell it to connect to that particular WLAN - the equivalent dialogue in Windows for example has a Connect button so you can select a WLAN and hit connect to force it to (try to) connect to that one, but there's no Connect button in OS X. In case it's important, I don't broadcast the SSID on my WLAN.
Does anyone know if it is possible to tell my mac book air to never connect to a certain wifi connection on OS X 7.4?

View 1 Replies View Relatedso today was the day to replace the broken harddrive inside my 12" Al Powerbook and naturally I've ballsed it up.
The problem came at this stage of pbfixit's instructions. In pulling the power cable out of it's socket, I've pulled the bloody socket off the board.
So this is bad, that much is clear, and I need help, and lots of it. What's the best course of action now? It's not under warranty or anything, it was second hand to begin with.
For what it's worth, if anybody else finds this while searching for dismantling instructions, it's actually not too difficult. I would change this section of the instructions though, as I'm sure it'd be easier to lift up the top case slightly and then disconnect these two cables rather than fiddling through the tiny holes. I think going in that way give you a side angle and more opportunity to grip properly. And less opportunity to break your Powerbook. Anyhoo...
I have a new 2010 MBP and I'd like to hook up two external monitors to it, more specifically, two ASUS VW246H 24-Inch Widescreen LCD Monitors. Either via HDMI or DVI connections. I've found various usb monitor adapters, but i've read that many can't quite 'keep up' and I really can't seem to find a solid solution out there.
So does anyone have a dual monitor setup they currently use, if so, what are you using to connect the mini display port to both external monitors.
My MacBook Pro orginally came with Leopard, however I deleted all partitions (by accident) and created 2 Windows partitions. Recently however I have done something that does not allow me to get into either of them which is an issue because I am unable to back up any of the files prior to installing snow leopard.
Using the snow leopard installation, I can see one of the windows partitions (despite not being able to boot from it) by loading Disk Utility however I am still unable copy the files from my Windows partition and back up onto my USB external hard drive.
Just recently I purchased a MacBook Air 13'' (1.7 GHz, 4GB, 256GB) with Lion installed in it and I have got an external monitor attached to it. It's been working really well for a couple of weeks, but in the last couple of days I have noticed how my browser windows, and only those!, for either FireFox, Chrome or Safari, keep dimming themselves while I am on other windows from other applications as if they were inactive, when they are not, because I am using the Mac still. And I can only get them to work again, i.e. loading Web sites, only after I click on them to activate them, which is annoying, because I may be on another window, would need to click on a link and it won't load on the browser window till I have clicked on it, on the browser window, that is.
I have searched in Google and found a couple of articles where it was highlighted how the problem may well be with the Settings under "Energy Saver" and I have got unticked in there for "Slightly dim the display when using this power source" and "Automatically reduce brightness before display goes to sleep" and still the same problem. Other articles suggested that I would try Caffeine and install it to get rid of the dimming of the screen, but even after installing I still have got the issues and I am, at this point, running out of ideas.

My Wi-Fi drops out all the time and I have to reset the WiFi to reconnect. When I look in the signal bar is says it is still connected, this will happen about once every 2 to 3 minutes. I have contacted the apple help desk and was told it must be my modem. I have two phones, an ipad, 2 windows laptops and my macbook pro is the only one that has problems with the WiFi. have also taken it to a repair agent and was told it was my modem.

I use MBP Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and use both Safari 4.0.4 and Chrome for browsing, and it is increasingly happening (on both browsers) that I need to click outside the active window (i.e. go to the menu bar and click on it, anywhere on it, to be able to press a link or a new tab buttons inside the open window). If I don't do that the active window buttons or links do not work, they depress or shade or do whatever, but do not actually do the function.

My Macbook Pro (purchased Dec 2010) falls asleep when I am in the middle of using it (typing, clicking, watching a tv show).There will be no display or sound, and it will sleep. Most times it will wake up when I click the touchpad alot or close and reopen the screen. However, sometimes I will need to restart. I am not sure why it is doing this all the sudden. It is happening more and more often. How can I fix it? The AC Adapter is plugged in, battery work normally and I set the energy saver so that it would not sleep when plugged in.
