I installed 8 GB of Ram a couple of months ago and only 4 of the 8 are shoing up in activity monitor and in about this mac. I had been working fine I think I am pretty sure I checked. I am running in 64 bit mode btw.

This is likely a Snow Leopard issue, but since it's happening on my Macbook....
Icons are (mostly) not displaying. In Finder my /Applications folder is ok, but anything new I install into it will have a name but no icon. In /Applications/Utilities no icons are showing My dock is ok, so far at least. On my Desktop (my default folder for downloads) anything downloaded will have a name but no icon. When installing a new program no icon for the app displays, just the name.

I have had 10.6 on my early 2008 macbook for about 2 weeks. One of the first things i noticed was the fact that my hardrive that 10.6 is installed on is not showing up on my desktop like it used to in 10.5. Has any one else had this problem. I have also updated to 10.6.1 but that did not sort the problem out.

I am running a fresh install of OSX Snow Leopard, and have been trying to install some the of the fonts I was using before using Font Book. The fonts are being added successfully and validating and are enabled. They are not showing up in any of my apps however, whether that be Photoshop, or OpenOffice etc. It seems that all types of fonts have issues, Opentype, TTF, etc.

I have a friends MacBook running 10.6.8 2.26Ghz Intel Core Duo 8 gig ram. I have installed UnrarX a couple of times with no errors in the installation process, however the application does not appear in the applications folder or any where else and cannot find it to open .rar files.Â
I fixed the issue by simply copying the UnrarX app from my MacBookPro but would like to find out what is going on. I have been told by my friend that she has had this issue before.

Running a 2010 MBP Core i5 2.4GHz. I had Windows 7 originally installed. Gave me wireless problems and I gave up. Erased the partition. Installed Windows XP and everything was fine.
I got a new copy of W7 Professional x64. I installed it "over" the existing XP, though it erased the partition anyways (I don't care about that).The new 7 install has been giving me the same wireless problems. I downloaded and installed the Broadcom driver. Gave me a BSOD and restarted the computer. Now I have a BSOD on start up, too. On the OSX side of things, it no longer shows any Boot Camp hard drive. It doesn't recognize it at all. Though when I hold the option key on boot, it still shows the Windows install.
1. How do I fix the BSOD problem? (All caused by installing the driver)
2. Where the heck is the Boot Camp hard drive/partition?
Installed a new 750GB drive into my MacBookPro 5.1 Couldn't get Winclone to make image so I was forced to start from scratch with a new XP installation.
My MBP is partitioned 25%Mac & 75%XP with bootcamp and I have the old drive in a enclosure connected with a firewire. So all of old files are on the external drive now.
After installing XP I have no internet connection, drivers etc... However if I boot up on the mac side everything works fine. (I cloned the mac os already with Carbon copy).
So can I just copy all my old drivers over to the new drive? If yes how and if no how do I get them installed on the new harddrive. The MBP came with everything preinstalled.
I have a legal copy of iWork 09 installed via CD-ROM, it does not appear as "installed" in the app store.

I have a Mid-2010 MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7.3, currently with the 4gb of RAM that it came with. I want to upgrade this. I am aware that there are two slots that I can use to upgrade. My question is this: the spec page for my model [URL] states that it has "4GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1066MHz DDR3 memory; two SO-DIMM slots support up to 8GB." Does this mean that I can have 8 total (meaning I can only add 4), or that I can add 8 gigs, making a total of 12? As far as I'm aware, the base 4 are located somewhere else inside the computer, leaving the two expansion slots empty.

Installation was pretty easy to be honest and I'm a novice with laptops.
did a clean install had to partition drive first then install OSX after doing all that I did a migration from time machine.
Something odd it booted up and my facetime app wouldnt work, got the error message that OSX was to old a version for it to work..
found it had 10.6.3 on it, thought it was odd as I did an install from the disc and my system came with 10.6.4.
so I did all the updates from software update up to 10.6.5 and now everything seems perfectly fine and lightening fast
I was wondering if any has installed windows 7 on their macbook air 2010 yet? I have the 13' base model with 2gb and am a little hesitant on installing it. Can anyone share their experiences please.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to fix restore my girlfriends (early 09) Macbook from a backup. Its install discs are missing so I'm using the install disc from a (late 08) Unibody. When I boot to the install disc I get the message "OS X can not be installed on this computer" and get the options "OK" and "Restart". Bewildered, I click OK and go into utilities and pick "Restore from backup", but nothing happens. I'm not sure where to go from here, is it refusing to install and restore from backup because the DVDs belong to another computer?

This happened when I first got it, and I took it to Apple. At that time, seems the RAM wasn't seated properly. It hasn't been a problem again until now. Yesterday, it did it twice. The RAM seems to be seated properly. Is there a firmware update or something I'm missing?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI have the 13" MacBook Unibody with the 250 GB HDD. I wanted to replace that with my Seagate Freeagent Go 500 GB external HDD. I took off the enclosure and replaced the 250 gb with the 500 gb but the computer won't recognize the new 500gb HDD. All I get is a blinking question mark during start up which I know stands for HDD issues. The 500 gb HDD is working fine btw, I tested it after I took it out of the enclosure.It is a Serial ATA 2,5" and works just fine. Is the Macbook 13" Unibody not supporting 500 gb HDDs maybe? I checked the specs for the MacBook Pro 13" which is supposed to be the same as the one I have and it does say that it supports 500gb HDD.
