I just received my CTO 17" i7 MBP and the moment I turned it on I noticed the screen (actual LCD) was tilted slightly in the aluminum case. I use my computer for work 8+ hours a day. Will I be able to return/exchange this machine for a standard non-CTO machine at an Apple store? If not, will Apple charge me a restocking fee if I simply return the CTO and go buy one at a local Apple store?
View 1 RepliesEver since I sold it here on MR and got it back, there has been a problem with my 12" Dual USB iBook G3 500MHz's screen (lord, that's a long name). Whenever the screen is tilted back farther than 45 degrees or so, the backlight shuts off. I can open the casing and fix it if it's possible. Does anyone know what the problem with it is? I'm trying to get it fixed up and ready to sell back to my friend as his first Mac, and I'm trying to get every problem resolved

It works fine but I have noticed that when I tilt the screen back almost all of the way that the front left side lifts slightly off the desk. I can see that the front left pad is not touching the desk. Is this an idiosyncrasy of the computer? Do others have the same symptom? Of course once I place my hands on the computer and start typing it's not really a problem, but I can certainly feel it click down to the desk or if I lift my hands off and slightly push down there is a space there. I think it is a weight issue, because once I pull the screen slightly towards me the space disappears as well as the issue.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy Macbook Pro 13 inch's lid is misaligned. I have had it less than a week and could return it. I am trying to figure out how normal this is. Other than that and some other small cosmetic effects the laptop is fine. In one of the corners (hinge side) the lid sticks out maybe 1 -1.5 milimeter and this misalignment carries over to the rest of the laptop as well. So on one side the lid is initially not covering the whole laptop then it sticks out over the laptop etc.

I replaced my Cd-rom/DVD player a month ago after it was giving me trouble. I bought a Superdrive on ebay and installed it. I'm still having problems though, and I can barely use it. I have to tilt the laptop back to get it to read or eject a disc. Do you think it's the drive or is it some other problem since I am on my 2nd drive? I don't have the money to have apple fix it, it's only 1.5 years old.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy MacBook Pro occasionally has trouble connecting to the wireless network in my house, but that can usually be solved by turning Airport off and then back on. Today (very suddenly), Airport disconnected from my network and could not find it again. I tried restarting my MacBook Pro and router multiple times. Finally it was able to connect, but here's the thing: it only works if my MacBook is tilted at an angle. If I try to open a webpage while the MacBook is sitting normally on a flat surface, the page won't load. If I lift one side of the MacBook so that it's tilted at a 45 degree angle, the page will load. Once it's level again the internet will stop working and the Airport signal bars will turn gray.

I bought my macbook pro at the apple store last week (brand new 6 days old, 15" 2.2 ghz i7) and am noticing a clicking sound from the right side of the track pad when i pick it up/ tilt it on my lap. This doesnt occur everytime I pick it up/ move it but often enough throughout the day. I recall the same sound when my powerbook hd crashed many years ago, so I'm a bit concerned.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just purchased a new imac 27" but noticed that the glass screen on the front did not fit flush on the left side to the aluminium unit. The overhang could be quite clearly seen from front and back and running your finger along it confirmed it stuck out with a resultant slightly sharp corner to the bottom right.I arranged for the return and replacement of the unit and a new one arrived today, I have not yet seen it myself, but my partner said it seems to have the same problem only this time on the right hand side! He also seems to think the hard drive is far more audible on this replacement.Has anyone else had similar issues? I don't know whether we are just being too fussy, but I've not seen it like this in the shops and for ?1649 I want it to be right!

It gets a bit annoying, I open it from the center top of the screen, not by the side. Is this a problem that I should be taking to the Apple Store? Or this can be fixed easily?

I have 3 problems with my aluminum macbook and I think that they are all related and are caused by each other.1) The hinge creeks sometimes when I slowly close the screen and I'm afraid it will only get worse as this just started happening.) When the macbook is closed, the screen is uneven. The right side does not completely close and there is a gap between the base of the computer and the screen. However, the left side is just fine unless I push down on the right side then the left side just goes up and becomes uneven.

My problem is that when I want a program (or more specifically in this case a game) to go into fullscreen mode it automatically goes to my primary monitor and turns the other screen black. I know I can switch the primary monitor from my actual laptop screen to the TV however I just want the game to be full screen on the TV while still having access to my dock and everything on my laptop.

I have tried to take a picture, please excuse the poor quality. There is nothing visible when the screen is off, even under close examination. Is it less visible when lighter things are on the screen, and invisible when the screen is white.
No drops or liquid spills. Will this go away on it's own? Any fixes?
I recently upgraded to a Macbook Pro 15" with a mini displayport, and I decided I would share my LCD monitor with my windows box. The desktop box is connected with DVI and I have connected my Macbook through an HDMI adaptor from Moshi. Everything works very well, and I'm pleased with the quality of the output, but I'm having trouble with a screen flicker in full screen games.
When I select full 1080p (1900x1080) in any full screen game, the screen "shudders." It does not occur on the OS X desktop, and I can only explain it as a shudder. Lines and text shift perceptively left and right, and the game is unplayable. I have experienced this problem in Starcraft 2, World of Warcraft, and Half Life: Episode 2 so far.
Could the problem be with my monitor and the way it handles an HDMI signal? The Macbook is flawless otherwise, with no other issues of any kind. The "shudder" only occurs during full screen games set to 1900x1080. Lower resolutions are not effected and work fine...
I'm stumped.
Edit: I should add that I have no other 1080p capable devices to test the output with.
I've got my MacBook attached to my 40" Sony Bravia HDTV (KDL40W4500), and when I mirror the display or use the HDTV as the primary screen it cuts off portions of the screen like the main toolbar on top, as well as some of the dock. I tried to change the Screen Format on my TV but that doesn't seem to work, does anyone know how to fix this?

I have a new 13" and, every so often, the screen brightness dims and then brightens very quickly (happens in less than a second).The option for auto-adjusting the screen brightness is off so it's not that particular function.It's most noticeable on all-white backgrounds both on AC and battery power. Hard drive access doesn't seem to coincide with the dimming.
View 17 Replies View Relatedthere are two things that the macbook is doing to me. one is that sometimes when i move the screen up or down (the hinge is rather stiff) a white (thin) line flashes across the screen. but recently, while randomly browsing through the internet, the screen almost... i guess faded to a gray screen, but like gradually, and not like a kernel error, like the display just faded away. happened twice in a row, did a battery pull and now wont do it again.

The screen on mine is sort of a gradient, with the screen becoming progressively brighter towards the left side. There are also what appear to be columns where the screen is slightly darker than the surrounding area. This makes it annoying to read in low-light conditions because the left side of the screen will be at a comfortable level when the right side is slightly too dim, or the other extreme. I absolutely cannot stand dead/hot pixels though which makes me hesitant to have the screen replaced. I just bought the notebook a week ago but I don't want it replaced, as I installed a Moshi PalmGuard before I noticed the screen issues. I also installed an InvisibleShield but I can have that replaced at no cost.

Everytime I try to turn on the MacBook, the blue screen appears for a second and then everything gets dark (but I can see that the computer turned on normally, it's just the screen that gets almost black, without light). Sometimes only the right side of the screen is blue and then gets dark just like the left one. I was looking for the problem and I perceived that the left side seems to be loose and I can't fix it. grey screen no apple followed by blue screen with vertical lines. Graphics and logic board replaced <6 months ago. What to do? I held down shift, it gets HOT HOT and makes noises. (for safety mode) followed by a blank grey screen and blue screen. Then tried the other way (I think it's command alt delete? I don't remember) and it turned from grey (no apple symbol) to blue blank. Then third time, grey followed by blue with vertical lines, not blocky clear lines that you can see if you are close to it.

I've had my mac for about three years now and everything was working fine. After I installed lion, I notice that this started to happen. I don't lose any of my information though when it does that. It just goes into a sleep mode I guess? Anyways, is this a feature from the lion update? Something standard?

I have a late 2006 Macbook, and my dad has an early 2009 Macbook. I was comparing the two today and noticed that there was a significant difference between their LCDs. My dad's Macbook has a lighter, more normal display. While mine has a yellow tint to it and is darker. Both computers were on the same display profiles and both had the same brightness set.
Is this just how LCDs are as they age? Or is mine really not supposed to have that yellow tint? The new Macbook is on the right in the pic.
I've had the new macbook air just two days now. Turned it on this morning, used it for like 5 minutes and the screen just started flickering, and the whole machine just froze on me! Had to do a system reset, but I'm a little concerned after spending over a grand on this macbook! Has anyone else experienced this? I'm actually thinking about returning the machine..
