I have a problem...my 12" Powerbook G4 doesn't start up properly at the moment. I turn it on, I can hear the chime, and the screen goes grey but then does nothing...I've tried holding down C while starting up too, but still nothing happens, just the grey screen.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy G4 powerbook has been saying recently that the start up disk is full, so i tried to empty some stuff off it. But not long after this when i tried booting it up the normal happens at first ie the t'ing' start up sound and the apple sign with the little timer going round but it does nothing else, it just carries on going round. I have tried re setting it and looked on help sites like this to try and override it etc but nothing seems to work!

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer won't turn on. Earlier today while playin music it just paused itself. I minute later it resumed. Then tonight it just shut off instead of sleeping and now it won't start. All I can get if I'm lucky is the start up chime and a super quick flash of a white screen.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.2)
My computer is a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Version 10.7.3, 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 with 4GB memory. Start-up has become somewhat erratic. Consistently, if I close the lid on the computer it won't restart when I reopen it. I'll have to hold the power button down for about 15 seconds, let up and then press it again. Sometimes restarting after a shutdown the computer will go through the long start-up I associate with a crash shutdown. Sometimes login start-up items don't start up. Sometimes I have to click somewhere on the screen to make the menu bar at the top of the screen visible. Overall, unexpected things keep happening. Although I don't think it probably relates, Chrome is my primary browser.

Whenever I take the hard drive out my laptop just stops working and it's back to normal when I put the hard drive in, is there a way for me to use my laptop without having to physically have my start up disk (hard drive) plugged into my laptop?
Macbook Pro can't start up beyond the grey start up screen. There's a spinning wheel and bar that moves to 1/4 before Macbook Pro shuts down automatically.

Closed the lid earlier on today and my macbook pro went into sleep mode. about 12 hours later i opened it and the battery was dead. Plugged the battery charger in and pressed the power button. It boots up, disc drive works and it sounds the same as it would working perfectly fine. Keyboard works and there is noise coming from the laptop when i press certain buttons like the volume etc but the screen isnt working. Unable to enter FireWire targert disc mode to fix the sleep mode files which is what i think is wrong with it but i don't have a FireWire and i don't really want to be playing around with my macbook's internal files incase i accidentally touched the wrong thing.

I am not 100% sure what the offical name of the start up noise is when you turn on your Macbook, however that is all I am geeting when I turn it on. I push the power button, it makes that start up noise of the disc drive... sits... and makes the noise again... sits... makes the noise again and so on and so on. The screen doesnt change at all, just blackness. I was able to start it up once with the start up disc and I thought that was the fix, so before going to sleep I powered down. Woke up the next morning same old bs AND it will not start up off the disc again. Another time after letting it sit and try to boot up for awhile (30mins) it finally did! However after 20-30 mins the screen kind of flickered and then everything froze. Can't get it to turn on at all now. Just that noise over and over and over and over again.
View 3 Replies View Relatedout of the blue about 3 months ago my MacBook(version10.4.11) started refusing to recognize my home wireless. the problem has now reached the point where it AT TIMES will display that the wireless newtwork is on in the toolbar yet the computer will not jump onto the internet. Now it has reached the point where it won't even show that it sees the wireless in the toolbar. I have reloaded all passwords , checked the Verizon wirelss set up, reloaded firefox , checked all firewalls. The wierd thing is that my kids macbook is fine. Mine is the one with the problem.I checked all my settingts to correspond/copy hers and they do. Have zapped pram too. It works fine EVERYWHERE else but home.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 13" MacBook 2.4ghz Aluminium Unibody and the trackpad isn't functioning properly.
I can't highlight text, and the click is tempremental, the right click also doesn't work (yes, I've been into Trackpad System Pref. and it's fine in there)
Starting about 4 months ago my 3 year-old 2.0GHz Core Duo MacBook's wireless started to not work very well. What was happening is that after starting the computer or waking it from sleep, it was able to connect to my network, but after about 5 seconds it would lose the signal despite being physically very close to the router without anything to block the signal. The problem progressively got worse, and at its worst it was only able to connect about 1 in 10 times. Either it wouldn't find the network at all, or it would find it but couldn't connect because "The connection timed out" or something like that.
I never bothered fixing the problem because my Mac was having a bunch of other issues at the time, so I was just going to fix them all by doing a fresh install of Snow Leopard once it came out.
So 3 days ago I did a fresh install of Snow Leopard (I formatted the harddrive then did a fresh install, not an archive and install). Unfortunately, it only kinda helped the wireless problem: I can now connect half the time rather than 1 in 10 times like it used to be.
I'm quite sure my network isn't the problem because everyone that has used my network in the recent past (which has been about 10 different PCs, Macs, and iPhones) hasn't had any problems. FYI, I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router.
my ichat was working earlier today and now its not.i installed a couple of things since the last time i tried and i think that is why its not working.
I just realized that the Unobody MacBook (later 08) does not close properly. It's kind of hard to move the lid (compared to my UMBP) and the magnet is not strong enough to keep it closed.
The Apple Care expired some weeks ago !! So I can't can"t let it fixed by apple for free
What shall I do?
I recently received an Intel SSD 80GB 2.5" for my MacBook (Alu MacBook 13"; the MacBook specific area is pretty dry as far as SSDs go). While it is quite fast and I am content with the speed, one anomaly has arisen. I was walking upstairs with my MacBook closed in hand and embraced to my chest when I heard a rattling noise coming from the sleeping machine. I opened it up to see that the SSD has about 1/2 to 1 inch of movement horizontally and about 1/2 inch vertically. When I put in the new drive I made sure to screw in the bracket nearest to the logicboard (but I later realized that the SSD does not have the nubs the old HDD did and therefore it does little in the way of securing the SSD). I looked at this video on information about how to install the SSD, but as far as I know, I have done everything that he has.
Am I correct in assuming that this is normal? This is my first installation of a new hard drive of any means into a laptop.
I've only had my white Macbook for nine months, but the last few months I've had trouble clicking the trackpad. There are times when I have to force it down. The right side of the trackpad seems to be the most problematic. I tried to ignore it, but it only seems to get progressively worse.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had a 500GB WD My Passport for about 2 months now. It was working perfectly, until last week when it didn't want to connect properly (i.e. I would connect it 10 times, and about 6 of the times it would work). Now, it doesn't seem to connect at all. I can feel the HDD vibrating inside, so it is getting power, but it's not showing at all. What's very weird is that it doesn't even show on Disk Utility. I'm completely lost as to what I should do. I need to either get it to work again or reformat it somehow, because I'm going on a trip next week and need the space on it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've got a macbook pro unibody and basically of the two usb ports. The lower one is working fine
but the top one is acting a bit funny. If I put my mouse or graphics tablet in there it doesn't work but if I put my phone or usb drive in there they work perfectly.
Wonder it's just me or hardware/software issue. If I set brightness at 50% with power adaptor on, and sleep, unplug, open lid or do vice versa, the next time when the MBP wake up, the brightness either goes to lowest setting or highest, very annoying. Sometimes I see keyboard light did the same thing but not as frequent as screen backlit.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI turn my Macbook ON and then the password screen comes on and I type in my password and it shakes and I have the password written on a piece of paper in front of me when I typed in the password. I don't have the OSX installation disc. IS there a shortcut or a way I can change the admin password or to change the password on my computer.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 2010 MacBook Pro 15" and randomly, just opened the screen to wake it from sleep, and about 5 minuets after being on the computer the track pad started becoming more and more unresponsive. To explain on unresponsive; at first the two finger scroll to scroll the page up was not working, then the pointer would not "follow" movement from my finger very well, and finally anytime I touched the track pad (such as just laying a finger down and not moving the finger across the track pad) It would do almost any gesture and was completly unresponsive of movement. I restarted the laptop multiple times, complete shut down wait about 10 min then start back up, and the track pad would be functional for a couple of minutes before doing above listed again. So I cleaned the track pad with a napkin while pressing down which seemed to make it work again and so far has not acted up again.

After re-installing Lion I've had this very annoying issue with tap-to-click on the trackpad of my MBP. While it seems to work most of the time, I often have to move the cursor away from the button or click on a window as if to make it active in orer for the click to work. A similar problem is occuring in MS Word when I'm going through the spell check process - I have to sometimes click "ignore" multiple times or click somewhere else in that window for the click to register. I have a macbook pro running 10.6.8 & the cap lock turns on when I press the 2nd bracket key. The cap lock stays on until I press the 2nd bracket key again. It will not turn on when I press the cap lock key or shift cap lock key. I tried resetting all shortcuts in system preferences & rebooting the computer, but it is still the same. I can't use the 2nd bracket key now

My friend's MBP was doing this recently, and asked me if I had a solution - to which I did not, and now my MBA is doing this:Â
On the left side of my dock, I have all the applications I frequently use, Finder, Browser, Mail, etc etc. And on the right side of my dock, ive put a few folders for my documents, applications, and downloaded items, for quick access to them.Â
My other applications, when openned from the Applications folder on the right side of the dock, would usually pop a little icon down on the left side of the dock, indicating that particular application was currently running, and where you could click on it - view files currently openned, that sort of thing. And now - That no longer happens? When the app is openned, it no longer puts an icon on the left side. Theres no presence that the app is currenly running. If i have several apps running at once maximized, I can no longer Tab between them back and forth, or click between them on the dock. And when I minimize the app It no longer receides into its icon on the left (because the icon doesnt appear there anymore), but now minimizes to the right hand side of the dock.Â
I don't know what has changed, or happenned, and I doubt it's something I did - because I rarely mess around with the settings on this thing. It operates perfectly otherwise. Â
