View 12 RepliesI have an old, old 10Gig iBook - the very first one that came out in white, I think I bought it 2001 - that has been working great until the power cord broke a few months ago. I just bought a new Macbook to replace it, and I'm wondering what I should do with the old one? The only problem is that I have no power cord so I can't go in and wipe the harddrive, and I would really like all my stuff erased before I give it away. Is there any thing worth any money on that old machine?
View 7 Replies View RelatedAlright, so I have the new i5 MBP.. Now I am debating if I should use it as my main machine.. I have a 24in Dell LCD I can hook up to it...
It is faster then my current iMac ( early 2008, 2.8Ghz 4GB of Ram 320G HD)..
So I am not to sure what to do..
What would you do?
I'm stuck trying to think if I should keep my iMac G5 and save up for a MacBook or sellthe G5 to purchase a new MacBook? The iMac is the 2.1GHz PPC model with iSight. I'm thinking I could at least get a grand off of it and then from there save up the extra hundred to at least afford a refurb.
So if you guys can help me decide on what you think I should do. I just need some opinions.
i wanted to buy the white macbook, so i looked on the website and didnt see it anymore. do they not sell them anymore?!

I left mine back home (6000 miles away) and find it annoying to have to sit very close to the wall every time I'm charging my MBP and using it at the same time. The extension cords I've seen on Amazon and the like all seem quite dodgy, is there any way I can buy the extension cord directly from Apple? I haven't seen it in the online store?

I have used a Apple MacBook Pro 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo (15.4-inch) for the past four years of college. In that time I've had it repaired once for some spillage, but other than that nothing has been done. The laptop has recently been showing serious age. I don't have a ton of extra cash, and was wondering if it would be smartest to A) Buy piecemeal repairs, and fix this one or B) sell/scrap this and purchase something new. I don't know the numbers enough to do a cost-benefit, so any help would gladly be appreciated!

? Track pad seems to be breaking/broken ($ fix cost?)o Does not click appropriately
o Frequently messes up typing when barely touched
o Extremely finicky? Screen sometimes displays lines of messy black lines in the middle of images with no rhyme or reason ($ fix cost?)o What in the world could be causing the screen to display improperly in lines?
o Is this a video card failure?
o Is memory too low?
o Is it the logic board? The battery is 100% dead and useless ($ fix cost?)o Laptop must be plugged in to work? Slow, and seemingly inconsistent performance ($ fix cost?)o Memory/ram was never updated
o Safari has to be opened twice to work, first time it always just sits there
o Microsoft Office 03 applications run at a snails pace? Still running original 2006 OS as well as all old OS applications ($ fix cost?)
? Case shows signs of use along edges with separation ($ fix cost?)
Also, if there are any ideas on what this would sell for, or a total cost to get it into solid running (and lasting!) shape would be awesome. I'm at wits end trying to budget for all this -
I'm selling my PowerMac, which was upgraded with an aftermarket CPU. I've decided to reinstall the original CPU and sell the PowerMac and upgrade separately.
I noticed that Apple didn't use thermal paste between the CPU and heat sink, and I was wondering if I should do the same or go and buy a tube of Arctic Silver.
I hope this is ok to post in here, because unfortunately i'm short of the post count required for the marketplace. I was wondering where would be a good place to advertise a late-2007 alu iMac? I'm trying to avoid eBay at the moment because i'll end up losing a fair amount of money in eBay and then Paypal fees. Also, is 650 an ok asking price? It's a 20" 2.0GHz C2D, 250GB HDD, 3G RAM.

My friend purchased a used Macbook and needed to reinstall Leopard on it (to remove the previous owner's junk), so he borrowed my install DVDs. Alas, the first DVD got stuck in the combo drive, so he had to send it in (under Future Shop's Product Replacement Plan, not under AppleCare, but FS sent it to Apple for repair). When he got it back, many weeks later, the DVD didn't work and could not be booted from. Will Apple give me a replacement? Does it matter which one of us calls? I'm thinking they might want the serial number to find the incident information, and since it's his Mac that was sent in, that he should call.
will they let me purchase a replacement OEM DVD (with iLife and everything that came with my Macbook)? Anyone know how much?
however does anyone know of any sites that sell Apple t-shirts (like the ones Apple Store staff wear)?

Here's a graphical tour of how close Amazon comes to replicating the iPod experience. A much smaller box Compared to the giant box that the original Kindle came in, the Kindle 2 ships in a tiny package the size of a textbook. To slim down, Amazon dropped the large hard-bound book volume case it shipped with the original model.
The smaller packaging will also save Amazon money in materials and shipping. The company already streamlines the ordering process to associate the unit's serial number with an Amazon user account so that the device is ready to go as soon as it is received. It's in the company's interests to push its readers to adopt the Kindle because sending digital books to their Kindle incurs none of the warehousing and shipping of heavy books. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said that Kindle e-books now make up 10 percent of the online retailer's total book sales for the books that are available in kindle format (statement clarified - ed)......................
Does Apple sell the bluetooth wireless keyboard with the number pad and arrows? Its something that I overlooked when looking into buying a mac. I want the aluminum wireless keyboard, but I hate not having the number pad and arrows. I couldn't find one anywhere.

I was wondering if selling parts of the iMac, like the Magic mouse or the wireless keyboard would void the warranty?
This is my first post on the forums so im sorry if I have put it in the wrong place.
I am going to be selling a faulty 17" iMac. However Im not sure wether to sell it as a complete machine or in bits. What do you think is the best way to make a bit of extra cash?

I don't really need much power and I don't do any gaming so would there be much difference in speed between the two machines?
Have installed an 120GB SSD in my Macbook Pro 2010 but have had a couple of problems. Sometimes when you try to enter time machine and or Finder the machine freezes. Also the only way out of this is to hold the power button down and reboot. I have been informed by Apple that there are slight differences between the 2009 and 2010 models. Another odd thing is Skype will not load up automatically on startup, despite making sure this option is ticked. Most other things seem to work. Reinstall original hard drive and all OK.I have tried this with OCZ and Crucial SSDs and get same result. I have also installed the SSDs by cloning and by direct original OS X disk.

I have an iMac PowerPC G4 (Mac OS X 10.2.8, yea I know) and I want to sell it but I know I won't get very much for it since it's so old. Do you guys have any guesses to how much I can get for it and how I should go about doing that? Is it even worth it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was trying to set up my Time Machine to an external hard drive. I didn't continue because it asked to "initialize" the hard drive which I had a lot of important things on.
I have another external hard drive I'd like to use but, my Time Machine has this error code of -43. What is this and how can I use my Time Machine on another external hard drive?
I have my data saved on an external hard drive (OS 10.7) as I sold my previous Mac and am thinking about buying a power pc iMac using Leopard - does anyone know whether this will be able to open and transfer my data to the older Mac?

The instructions here

I have a desktop G5 that I'm in the process of selling. I have been using Time Machine for my backups and am picking up a MacBook Pro to replace it as my requirements are now much more mobile.
My question is simply this; can I restore my system, backed up from my G5, to my new MacBook?
I Just reinstall the MacBookPro from zero, without Time Machine, because some App was making a mess. In this new installing, my mac have another "machine name" and "HDD name" because I can't remember the old ones, so the Time Machine don't recognise the bucks-up, When I enter from Finder in the disk of TM, I see all the backups and files, but when I enter from the App TM, It's Clean.
So how I can "Rename" the TM Bucks-up so I can restore only the file that I want not all ?

I cannot enter the time machine when I press the time machine icon. I press and nothing happens, so I'm not sure even if it is backing up at this point. When i go to my Tme Capsule it has the folder there for back-ups and the most recent, but no access from the icon.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just replaced my HD on my 15"MBP. The install went well until restoring my data from Time Machine. The apps came over fine but none of my data did. Yes, I checked all the boxes on the "restore from backup" menu.
Of course now when I start up time machine the backup isn't there. How do I get Time Machine to recognize the backup? I have it on two places - a time capsule and a separate external HD.
