View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I download videos from my camcorder, they show a grey image and have green exe. written in the box. The only way I can view the content is to open it in VLC, but then I can't find VLC from the finder. Also there are tiny horizontal black lines all through the video. I can play the videos on Windows and no black lines appear. How can I view the thumbnail and get rid of the black lines?

All my smaller files show up as 4kb in finder. I know this is because on HFS+ that is the minimum allocation for a file, but it really doesn't help when trying to get a sense of how large files are when you're thinking of deploying them to the web, or glancing to see which are longer/which have been changed etc. is there any way to set Finder to display the size of files based on how much data is in them.

Someone I know wants to buy a macbook air. I've replaced hard drives on Sony's, lenovos, macbooks etc. But I know some Sony's come with special "non-standard" drive sizes. Does anyone know if the Seagate Momentus laptop drive will fit in the newest macbook air? I saw on anandtech you could replace it on the previous model but I thought I'd double check as she needs much more space than 120GB that apple offers.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to find out how to get back the space up top of window that appears when I click on safari. I used to be able to type in web addresses and go to places but somehow I lost the space which was just above or just below gray space that show apple, store, mac, ipod etc. I am 78 & sometimes get confused.I know I had my arrow on somewhere near that space and heard a sound and when I looked back at my puter that space was gone.Â

I'm going to use a fast 300GB WD VelociRaptor HD in an e-SATA enclosure connected to my MBP via a Merax e-SATA Xpress XpressCard/34 for moving large audio file drum software during live play. I know FAT32 wont work because of it's 4gig file limitation and stability issues (file corruption). I could use the more modern and stable NTFS but that would require using something like NTFS-3G or Paragon to allow OSX to recognize it but I'm worried about slower performance going that route. Would using the OSX native HFS+ format give me the performance and large file size usage I need?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there an option/tweak/add-on to show the size of a highlighted file in icon view? I know I can change to a different view or use 'Get Info' on the file but that defeats the purpose. Is there anyway to see this information on the information bar on the bottom of the window (instead of just number of files and space available on disk)?
Nothing major, just something to make life a little easier.
I am trying to delete some data from my macbook pro. I am running out of storage and decided to purchase an external hard drive for my go pro videos. In total the videos are around 60-70gb of data. When i transferred them to my external hard drive i disconnected it and deleted the photos from iPhoto. The problem is....it didn't free up any space. Now my storage just allocated that space to other things which it shouldn't have done?
The first photo is before i deleted the movies. The second is what happened after i did. It now says that 71 gb of data is being used for backups. I do have Time Machine on and i do a backup once a month onto an external hard drive. Im currently running the newest version of yosemite.Â

Any way to do that? I simply find it a hassle to click on -show view options, increase the size of the icons (128x128) then quit the menu to view my photos.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy MB Air is not booting (I get the ever gray Apple logo screen with the spinning wheel, and nothing happens) Following instructions I found online, I tried the disk utility repair disk and permissions and, apparently, there's nothing wrong. Still, the system won't boot!Â
I'm now trying to reinstall Mac OS X Lion, but the system requires about 0.5 GB of additional free disk space to install!Â
Is there anyway I can access the OS terminal screen (command line interface), so I may delete a few files, creating additional disk space?Â

How do I shrink the size of icons in grid view on dock? (see attachment). They are massive at the moment & because im only on a macbook white 13", it takes up so much of the screen.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have my photos stored on extrnal hard drive and want to view them full size to see if sharp and then delete.
I could always do this in windows on the one screen with no problems. On the Mac it is very difficult and time consuming have rung phone support a few times and have not come up with a solution.
The last suggestion was to go thru Bridge shurly I should not have to use othere software to do such a simple thing. I thought a Mac was supposed to be easy and good for photographers but I am finding it very fustrating.

Bear with me if you already knew this, but after a few of years with OSX I've only just found it out (accidentally!)As in finder, where you can use the space bar to quick-look at files, you can do the same in Exposé hover over one of the windows and hit the space bar to get a full-sized view of it!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have my Mac on a TM backup on a 500gb HDD and its been backing up for about a month now. The maximum space is just about 500gb but time machine has brought it to 338gb with each backup taking 10-20gb. Is this normal? On my other Mac (an aluminum imac C2D), the backups take roughly 80gb of space and on my MBP im already up to 159gb worth of backups. Is there a way to minimize the size of backups?
