I've created a new user account in Mac OS 10.5.7 and I have changed the International settings of this user, in particular, I set the language to Portuguese. Now, when this user logins in, Finder does not start properly. It quits and immediately tries to restart again. The result is that the Finder menu blinks on the screen. I can run other applications normally, Safari, Terminal, etc. The problem is, AFAIK, only with Finder.

I have seen couple of sites which allows free sms/text (up2 150 characters) in the internet, but haven't find any software which uses this technology. Few sites offer this service with the catch tht both sender and receiver needs to be registered with the internet service provider. Even a lot free voip call services are available but no sms services are available ? why cant they use voip technology for sms ?
I used to just closed my Mac instead of pressing the shutdown button; I tried this time but I cannot shut it down anymore, also my keyboard cannot control the volume or turn on the keyboard-light. Also I remember there is like a back-up shortcut (or something like that don't know what is it exactly named) consisting of three keyboard button.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo my friend was using his MacBook and went to do something else. He came back and the screen was black, he hit space and nothing, tried the trackpad and nothing. He restarted by holding the Power button, and it go to the log-in screen, but he can't type anything, or use the trackpad. He has tired restarting several times and no luck. He also tried an external Keyboard/Mouse and that didn't work.
He did plug in a Flash drive and the light turned on, so the USB ports are at least getting power, but nothing is working.
I'm thinking of buying a MacBook but I have one reservation. I'm moving from a Powerbook 12"...
What's the consensus on the MacBook keyboard in terms of ease & comfort of use? I write for a living so a good keyboard is pretty essential. I've always been mostly satisfied with my powerbook keyboard, it's pretty comfortable although I occasionally mash a neighbouring button with my big clumsy fingers. The MacBook keyboard looks a little... weird. How is it?
Yesterday I had a Leopard software update which included new keyboard firmware. I did the update and the keyboard continued to function normally. This AM I booted my MacBook Pro and discovered the keyboard no longer responds to inputs. However, the MB does responds to an external USB keyboard.
Now I don't know if I have a sudden hardware problem or the MB keyboard is not working as a result of the firmware update. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? Can I go back to the earlier revision of the keyboard firmware?
Hmmm - while writing this I just realized I have a bootable image of my system made a few week back on an external drive - I'll have to try it.
I just bought a new 2012 aluminum Wireless keyboard and the function keys do not work properly. I am currently running OS 1.5.8. I would expect most keys to match the icons on the keyboard. I do not want to upgrade to Snow Leopard or Lion. I have installed an aluminum keyboard upgrade 2.0 and this did not help. I just want the the keyboard functions to match the icons on the keyboard.. Volume up...volume down...

I just got a generic usb keyboard to use with my mbp as schoolwork is taking its toll on the keys and I wouldn't mind preserving it a little better.
This keyboard is the dynex from bbuy that's labeled in windows crap but was cheap and works fine on the mac. Unfortunately, everytime the mbp comes out of sleep, the keyboard is unresponsive and i have to set it up again in settings.
Just hoping there's a simple fix and that it's not terminal
thanks in advance.
I bought a new i7 iMac about two months ago and love it but the Bluetooth keyboard it came with recently started acting up. It randomly disconnects and when it does it will type whatever letter I last hit on the keyboard repeatly.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm a bit of a noob when it comes to this, but does anyone have experience with creating keyboard shortcuts? I would like to edit my o , u , and a keys to create ??d 䠨alt + u = ? + o = ?tc...) Is this possible? It's a bit annoying switching between the different keyboards when I would like to make an umlaut.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy desk configuration for my imac includes a keyboard tray. I am contemplating just not using it, however it really does put the keyboard in a more natural place for me to sit correctly. If I want to use the wired keyboard though, I will obviously need some type of usb extension. I have read these came with the old keyboards, but they don't come with the new ones. Does anyone know where I can find one that is compatible with the aluminum keyboard? Would the extenders that came with the old Mac keyboards work (in case i can find one on ebay or something)?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've just bought a Mac mini to use as a media centre, and I picked up the Apple wireless keyboard and mouse while I was at it. It wasn't until I got home that I read the "requirements" section on the side of the mouse and keyboard boxes, where it states that an existing keyboard and mouse are needed for setup.
I have a USB mouse, but no keyboard (my other Mac is a MBP), and nowhere to borrow one from (all my friends have laptops).
Anyone have any idea? I'm thinking of getting a refurb MBP here in Japan, but it comes with Japanese keyboard that I'm really not used to. Apple have MBPs with English keyboard only for new units, not refurbished.
So I'm thinking of buying the English keyboard from parts site on the net and replacing it myself. However, I'd like to know if there's any driver change or anything needed on Mac OS X?
In the System Preferences, I don't see any place I can set what type of physical keyboard layout I'm using. Please advise if you've any experience.
I have a 2.16GHz MacBook and some of the keys stopped working and I did a computer formate and that didn't fix the problem. I was wondering if a version 2 keyboard would work on my version 1 MacBook. (the only difference is the Fkeys have the newer lineup) did anyone try this before?

The weird thing is Microsoft's keyboard can't understand the swap. When I press the control key, sometimes it thinks I am pressing command and sometimes it thinks I am pressing control.

I alternate between French and English regularly when typing, but every time I have to go to System Preferences (or add an ugly flag that does not match the color-scheme to the status-bar) and change the language. Is there a way to have a keyboard shortcut that switches between two keyboard shortcuts?

How to disassembly apple wireless keyboard ? spill some milk, some of the keys want work,
View 4 Replies View RelatedThis is an idea that I have since I bought a MacBook Pro and it's because I love the trackpad and I use it instead of the mouse.
So the keyboard of an iMac can have integrated the keyboard itself + the trackpad in just a single "device".
The place of the trackpad can be where before were a numeric keypad. It can have the other features that have the MBP's keyboard.
I was wondering if it possible to use a PC keyboard (logitech Ultrax) on a macbook. How will it work with the lack of a command key, or is this just switched to the windows button?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a macbook (black) and a PS3. I am wondering if there is any way of using the macbook's keyboard as a bluetooth keyboard for the PS3. I have tried but I guess the macbook doesn't advertise itself as a bluetooth keyboard.. is there some way or application that could do this?
Do you guys have any ideas on how to achieve this connection?
I have a macbook air which I bought on ebay a few months ago - it was a few months old when I bought it. I am absolutely delighted with it in general (I was a PC user until then...) but a few days ago the number eight key stopped working. The rest of the keyboard still works fine. As far as I know nothing has been spilt on the keyboard but I suppose it's not out of the question that some crumbs or something have got in...
Anyway, I have an appointment at the Apple store in a few days, but I'd be really grateful for some informed opinion about what to expect.
For example, is this likely to require replacement of the keyboard? If so, am I right in thinking that with the Air that would involve replacing the whole upper body (if that's the right description) as keyboard, trackpad etc all seem to be one unit.
And if so, is that the kind of job that involves the machine being sent away - or are they likely to be able to fix it in store?
I am very want to buy one but I seem doesn't had keyboard backlight.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI went yesterday evening to the Apple store in Georgetown as I happened to be near by and checked out the new Airs. The keyboard letters look reflective bu the keyboard also looked somehow cheaper (which I guess it is truly). Tough to test the usability in the dark in the store, I tried to hover over it with my jacket (must have looked pretty stupid) but it is not a real live test. So for you who had a backlit keyboard before
