How can I test my MBP i7 GPU performance while playing a game (Red Alert 3)? Is there a tool I can use to measure FPS etc? How about GPU temperature? I'm new the GPU performance world, so I would appreciate some education on this.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just got my new air and absolutely love it. I had seen pretty impressive graphics performance. What I didn't expect was the fan noise. I knew it was loud, but this thing sounds like the old G5's! It makes me kind of scared to play games to be honest. Are they going to substantially decrease the life of my machine? Do you think a laptop cooler would really help with this?

When I play a game on it.within about 15mins.. my macbook pro (2.8GHz model) gets extremely hot. It's about 65 deg C (145 F).. I can hardly touch it just above the keyboard region. I'm guessing this is where the processor is.. The fans also kick in at full speed.
I do understand that the computer will get hot under heavy load.I'm just wondering if it is normal for the computer to get SO hot? Will it damage my computer in the long run? Should I go get it checked out at the apple store?
just got my air 11.6 cheapest version. I was playing tf2 under Os X and the performance is just a tiny bit too low for good playing, i feel like a tiny overclock of the 1.4 ghz cpu would greatly help. Considering the core 2 duo is a very mature cpu, and that the laptop doesnt seem to heat that much, it might just work. Of course Im talking about even just a lil oc to 1.6ghz.

How does she see what the power is at while playing the game? ts normally just in the menu bar, but like i say this game overrides all that info until the game has been quit.

I just bought a Macbook Pro 13" (the high end). I'm mainly gonna use it for text editing, internet, watching movies, some photo work, music etc. But I would like to play a game now and then so I bought the new Diablo 3. I know the computer isn't made for gaming and lacks graphics due to the intigrated graphics card. Despite this I am able to play the game, but the fans turns up to 5000-6000 rpm. I was just wondering if I'm gonna reduce the lifespan on the computer (especially thinking about the battery) a lot - or if I shouldn't worry.

So I am basicly trying to play warcraft 3 on my late 2011 MBP 13. I managed to install the via a older snow leopard macbook. The problem that I have and is specific to my video config is that some textures go black. This does not happen on any other macs on Lion with a video card that is not HD 3000. For instance playing on a 2007 macbook is ok on lion. I attached screen shots from each machine so you understand better what I am talking about.

I currently use a macbook pro, but it's getting on at 3 years old now, I never use it as a portable device and I'm desperate for a more powerful iMac.
In terms of performance I need something that can play the latest games - WoW and CoD specifically - as smoothly as possible. At the moment I'm drawn between the better 21.5" mac, or the 27" with the same settings.
1st Question: I'm fairly sure the 21.5" would play the games well, but if I upgraded to a 27" screen, would the games play slower as a result?
2nd Question: The 21.5" iMac comes with an i3 processor. Is there a big difference between the i3 and i5 in terms of performance (specifically, again, for gaming). Would it be worth getting the i5?
How good is the realistic battery life of the base MacBook White 2009 for both playing a game on Windows Boot Camp and just browsing the internet over WiFi?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've had my unibody Macbook since October. Recently I installed a few game apps including Sims 3. The problem is that when I try to play a game, it shows that my CPU usage is around the 100 range, the temperature is around 150 degrees, and the fan is around an average of 4000 rpm. It gets annoying cause you can hear the fan making a loud noise, I'm not sure if its my laptop or some other problem.

I'm trying to install the sims 2 on my mac, and it gets right to the end, but when I try and play the game a pop up appears that says I need atleast 1mb of free disk space, and then tells me to free up some space on the Local Disk.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 2008 MP which I ordered with the 8800 GT video card. I decided it was time to upgrade so ordered the nVidia GTX285 for the Mac from [URL]. Installed easy (didn't need the drivers as Snow Leopard already had them) except for the installation of the power cables on the MoBo (fat fingers need not apply ).
So far I like it. I am waiting on Modern Warfare 2 so that will be a good test.
It will be interesting to see how it handles the demands of Crysis2 when it ships after Christmas. The original game was very demanding (don't know why that was so as I just finished Far Cry 2 and the 8800 handled it easy and the graphics were just as good as Crysis).
Could any 27" iMac owners post their framerates for WoW here so we can get a feel for how the systems compare to the 24" iMac.

I have a 2 x 2GHz Dual Core Intel Mac Pro, with 9GB of DDR2 RAM and 2 Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT graphic cards each running a Samsung 24 inch screen. I recently bought Call of Duty 4 and found that the game runs terribly on anything higher then around medium sort of settings. I know the 7300 Graphic cards aren't the best for gaming, but they have done the job for me perfectly until now. I'm a photographer so I calibrate my screens with a Spyder and run a separate colour profile through each video card per screen, and its always calibrated perfectly.
I'm just curious if there is any actual performance advantage of having 2 video cards other then running a separate colour profile through each card? So for example, If I'm playing call of duty and only 1 screen is displaying information, does the other card just sit there, or does it jump on board and process information for the game being played? Because I would have thought having 2 7300's would somewhat give better performance during gaming then just the one?
My old 24" iMac had an ATI radeon 4850 card, and playing some of my favorite game titles (fallout 3, and Dawn of War) worked fine - atleast in comparison to my old White iMac 24".
Now I'm going to purchase a 27" i5 iMac with the Radeon 4850 card. My question is; since it�s the same GPU and playing in native resolution will be a tough job. Will the quality of playing games in 1080p be much lower?
I just want to know if this will be a significante downgrade. Or if playing games in 1920x1080 will be a good quality choice.
Hey just wanted to ask if it is possible that my late08 mbp which runs under WIN7 home premium is getting too hot while playing? Just played about 15 mins when my screen (aion)ingame froze (but sound + mouse didnt) and a few seconds later i've heard skype shutting down - and a few seconds later everything started to shutdown -> bam bluescreen for about 1 sec -> restart O_o happened now 3 times in an hour..

Then when i run the game everything works fine (the begining cut scenes) but when the game is about to start it cuts off and an error popup comes up.

According to the specs you need at least a Geofre 5700 which I think is 128 mb. Anyways, I've bought a few other games off of play-asia that had those same specs, but ran perfectly on my macbook. I'm a long-time Mac owner (this is my 4th) but new to Mac forums. I'm making the transition from playing action type games on a console system to playing games on my Mac (Madden, Call of Duty, etc). It sucks playing them without some kind of controller and I am looking hard at what's out there.
I have a MacBook Pro, 17", 2.66GHz Intel Core i7 processor, and 8 GB 1067MHz DDR3 memory.
So what are the best controllers that are currently available? Or would I be better served to wait a couple of months for something due out any time? I don't want to wait forever and I know that there will always be something better coming out, but if there is something revolutionary coming soon, I'd wait.
